    • These are my very good friends trucks from back in the day in Ontario. The Superliner and the R he had on with Arnold Brothers both pulled float and oversize loads. He hauled lots of big crushers and mining trucks up to the Yukon. He is also a master fabricator. He built those sleepers and the R Model had an APU before that was even a thing. he made one using a Vauxhall engine and it even heated the wetlines hydraulic oil tank in the winter. The Superliner had an E9 V8 450 in it but it was turned up.
    • Yes Paul its a pressure regulator.I know the picture isnt great but the two air tanks in the pic are connected through this valve.the tank on the right feeds air to the tank below the valve. This tank is directly connected to the parking brake lever.I dont have air pressure test equipment but both gauges on the dash showed full air pressure.I removed enough of the dash to follow the three pipes from the lever and found one went to the parking brake control valve on the frame, one went to the trailer brake control and one went to this tank which had no air in it.The only supply connection this tank has is through this pressure regulator.I removed it cleaned it and now everything works perfect..... Paul
    • Dug up some pics I had of some old R Models in my town back in the day. The new red RD at the dealer ended up pulling log trailers (there were also two like it in the steel mill that pulled a 100 ton float), and the black one was a lumber hauler. The oversize load was a project in the steel mill here, Algoma Steel.
    • Awesome! I think that's out of an old Canadian Bulldog magazine. That used to be a really cool magazine. Was broken down into each province and just had pics of new Mack's delivered and on the job. Now it's nothing except plastic Volvo's and the marketing department telling you about the "3% more fuel efficient" every year.
    • Hope he don't mind, but I had to share this here. Picture posted by C.J. Hall on the Old Canadian Trucking Companies FB page. Here was the info he provided. John Crowell purchased this long wheelbase Mack Western F-model brand new. Powered by a V-12 Detroit Diesel. John was leased to Hope Freight Lines and ran around B.C.
    • Yes Jamison (37) was killed when a forklift fell on him, I don’t know the exact situation,, I know some guys that were there but I haven’t asked, just tragic anyway it happened. I went to his funeral , it was overwhelming with trucks , he was a great hardworking person! Sad thing I talked to him and Greg Bifile for a while at Harris Speedway in November, 2 weeks before he was killed, We went to Greg’s Ranch for his race ( Brad was also there) . The brought Jamison’s truck to race it , his wife and son were there. A week later Greg was killed along with his family and friends. Tough times for sure.
    • Dean, Was Jamison Gibson killed by a tow motor falling on him???
    • Well I have no good answers as to we're that starts or finishes I have would expect that is a pressure regulator valve and from memory, the only ones I recall seeing are on the transmission for the range change  I wonder if it is a built in safety feature that won't allow the brakes to release unless you have enough air for the transmission?? But I have no idea at all   Paul

      - I double sticked and old Mack to feed a stone crusher in 12 and 14 hour shifts six days a week all summer to pay for my chemistry degree.
      - Because I wanted to sleep for 1 min and 26 seconds each trip out of the quarry at the crusher's vibratory dump box at the top the quarry during those 12 hour shifts, I bulled the old MACK up long 20 degree and sometimes steeper grades.
      - THAT meant that I split each gear 1, 2, 3 after coming out of boggy low.
      - All I did was rev to the right engine note, reach my left arm down through the steering wheel to hold the curve I was on or hold the truck's path steady; slip out of 1st, throw the 2nd stick high into low and slip into 2nd gear... rev to the right engine pitch, slip to high.
      - Then when it was time, reach through the wheel again, slip high to low and 2nd to 3rd {if I correctly remember 60 years ago}.
      - The Igneous rocks were too heavy and the grade too steep for me to ever get into 3rd high.
      - The crusher team were the mechanics for everything and had replaced the old Mack's tranny gears because they had been ground too much. - - They later told me they didn't believe me when I told them I slipped all my shifts because the gears showed no wear.
      - Except for start and stop; Not once did I use the clutch because that made my leg ache too much after an hour or so.
      - I slipped all my standard 4 speed shift vehicles all my life...just to be with the music of the engine and car or truck.

      - I hardly ever change disc pads or brake shoes because I always slipped my gears downshifting...
_ I learned that because the synchro rings got shot on my 1968 Volvo 122S 2-Door 4-Speed with an electric overdrive because I stupidly speed shifted and ruined them. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-volvo-122s-17/
      - [Note: That Volvo's original owner was a Canadian Submarine Captain who rallied it and that is why it had Volvo's unique electric overdrive.]

      - {I clear coated over the bone white with Cadillac Firemist Green and painted the grills Black because they were dented...gosh it was stunning.}
