    • Associated Press  /  January 29, 2026 Patrick James, the former CEO of bankrupt auto parts supplier First Brands Group, was indicted on federal fraud charges and arrested Thursday in Ohio with his brother Edward, a former senior executive with the company. The indictment from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York said the James brothers “perpetrated a yearslong fraud” to obtains billions of dollars for First Brands — and millions for themselves — by duping investors and banks with fake documents and false financial reports. When it filed for bankruptcy protection in September, officials representing First Brands said the company had more than $9 billion in debt and only $12 million in cash. After changing its name to First Brands from Crowne Group five years ago, the Cleveland company began buying and then cobbling together a number of aftermarket auto parts manufacturers through debt-financed deals. Acquisitions by First Brands included well-known industry brands like Fram filters, Autolite sparkplugs and Anco windshield wiper blades. The James brothers falsely inflated invoices for accounts receivable and borrowed against them two and three times, unbeknownst to lenders and investors. This yielded billions of dollars of financing for the company, which the James brothers used to finance a lavish lifestyle. “The defendants operated First Brands as a ‘Ponzi’ scheme in which new loan proceeds were used to pay back old lenders and to fund their extravagant lifestyle.” A lawsuit brought against Patrick James in November accused the former First Brands CEO of securing billions of dollars in debt financing based in part on fraudulent invoices, then transferring hundreds of millions of dollars to himself and other affiliates to “fund his and his family’s lavish lifestyle,” which includes seven homes and 17 cars. The lawsuit claims that James, with the help of unnamed conspirators, transferred $8 million to his son-in-law’s wellness company, $2 million for James’ family office, at least $3 million toward the rent of his New York City townhouse, $500,000 to his personal chef and another $150,000 for a “celebrity personal trainer.” The majority of the transfers occurred between 2023 and 2025. The indictment released on Thursday also revealed a guilty plea from former First Brands executive Andy Brumbergs for his role in the scheme. Patrick James, 61, and his brother Edward, 60, each face nine counts, including wire fraud, bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Most of the charges carry a maximum sentence of 30 years if convicted. Patrick, the former CEO, is also facing a potential life sentence.
    • Gym after been on the grog, no thanks Haven't had a drink since landing back in Australia  Princess is busy watching tennis and and I'm busy thinking "who wants to watch tennis ?" So go to bedroom, hunt for the TV remote in there and start watching old movies from the 60's  Bob Hope is still funny    Paul
    • This is a nice M1070 repurposing.  .
    • Still NO headache rack or headboard on the trailer?? I will be that driver will insist on them in the future!!!
    • Looks like the load was coming apart before he hit the snow. Two strap winches toward the front might be he had forward securement that didn't hold. As far as the cab, that should buff out.     .....Hippy
    • I saw a couple more pictures of the truck on the Appomattox VFD page. The truck was the only vehicle involved, but that doesn't mean nobody pulled out in front of him and caused it, no details were given as to the cause. Said the driver was transported by EMS, but it doesn't look as bad from this side as it did from the other side.

      - I double sticked and old Mack to feed a stone crusher in 12 and 14 hour shifts six days a week all summer to pay for my chemistry degree.
      - Because I wanted to sleep for 1 min and 26 seconds each trip out of the quarry at the crusher's vibratory dump box at the top the quarry during those 12 hour shifts, I bulled the old MACK up long 20 degree and sometimes steeper grades.
      - THAT meant that I split each gear 1, 2, 3 after coming out of boggy low.
      - All I did was rev to the right engine note, reach my left arm down through the steering wheel to hold the curve I was on or hold the truck's path steady; slip out of 1st, throw the 2nd stick high into low and slip into 2nd gear... rev to the right engine pitch, slip to high.
      - Then when it was time, reach through the wheel again, slip high to low and 2nd to 3rd {if I correctly remember 60 years ago}.
      - The Igneous rocks were too heavy and the grade too steep for me to ever get into 3rd high.
      - The crusher team were the mechanics for everything and had replaced the old Mack's tranny gears because they had been ground too much. - - They later told me they didn't believe me when I told them I slipped all my shifts because the gears showed no wear.
      - Except for start and stop; Not once did I use the clutch because that made my leg ache too much after an hour or so.
      - I slipped all my standard 4 speed shift vehicles all my life...just to be with the music of the engine and car or truck.

      - I hardly ever change disc pads or brake shoes because I always slipped my gears downshifting...
      _ I learned that because the synchro rings got shot on my 1968 Volvo 122S 2-Door 4-Speed with an electric overdrive because I stupidly speed shifted and ruined them. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-volvo-122s-17/
      - [Note: That Volvo's original owner was a Canadian Submarine Captain who rallied it and that is why it had Volvo's unique electric overdrive.]

      - {I clear coated over the bone white with Cadillac Firemist Green and painted the grills Black because they were dented...gosh it was stunning.}
