What R is it?

Looks like a smaller engine one because of the shutter size. Every different R variation started with 1001. It is a piece of history but what one is it? My brother had the 1967, R719-1003 not the first but was close. It will never look like that R though, Very nice!!

Great job and a lot of work.

I don't remember where we had this discussion, but the topic of the very 1st R model came up about a year ago, below is the reponse I got from Dale at the museum.

Mike,

After searching through all of the sub models of the R Series trucks built in 1965, we’ve come up with the Chassis Number of R609LST 1001 as the first R Model off of the 5C Assembly line dated April 6, 1965.

There were Models R401, R403, R410, R607, R609, R611, R615, R640, R715, and R737 built in 1965 but the R609LST 1001 was the first one. The number(s) after the letter “R” was the type of engine in the truck. It had no bearing on the date of manufacture.

The MACK emblem on the nose and the B style parking lights next to the headlights lasted for how long? Paul

I don't think very long. You hardly ever see them. I have wondered if it was just used on pre-production pictures and maybe the first 50 units or something like that?

I like the look!

Jim

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.

If you ever held one of those cast script front emblems in your hand,it makes you wonder why they would try to bolt that to fiberglass? Those emblems have some weight to them. I do like the look of them, though. Those same emblems were used on the front of the M series off - road trucks. Al
