College students say they can't send in their absentee ballots because they don't know where to buy stamps

  • Fairfax County, Virginia conducted a focus group this summer with college interns from across various county departments.
  • County officials learned that college students were failing to send back their absentee ballots because they didn't know how to get a stamp.
  • "That seems to be like a hump that they can't get across," Lisa Conners, of the Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs, told WTOP on Tuesday.

Democrats are counting on Generation Z, many of whom recently gained the right to vote, to help turn Congress blue in the midterm elections.

But 49 cents may be all it takes to keep these post-Millennials from exercising their civic duty.

On Tuesday, a Fairfax County, Virginia official said they are noticing a disturbing trend: young people failing to mail in their absentee ballots because they don't know how to get a stamp.

Lisa Connors, of the Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs, ran a focus group this summer comprised of colleges students interning in various county departments.

"One thing that came up, which I had heard from my own kids but I thought they were just nerdy, was that the students will go through the process of applying for a mail-in absentee ballot, they will fill out the ballot, and then, they don't know where to get stamps," Connors told WTOP. "That seems to be like a hump that they can't get across."

Connors went on to say that many in the focus group said "they knew lots of people who did not send in their ballots because it was too much of a hassle or they didn't know where to get a stamp."

"Across the board, they were all nodding and had a very spirited conversation about 'Oh yeah, I know so many people who didn't send theirs in because they didn't have a stamp,'" Connors said.

As a way to combat this abstention for the upcoming midterm elections, the county is focusing on raising awareness of in-person absentee voting, which students can do while they're home on fall breaks. That voting starts in Virginia on Friday.

Another potential hurdle is Millinnials voters mixing up their home address, where they are registered to vote, with the address they want their absentee ballot shipped to, according to WTOP. If they mix this up on the ballot, then it's rendered invalid.

Someone posted a video to FB, it had some woman with her daughter trying to get her to pump gas.  She was holding a $20 bill her mom gave her.  She didn't know how to get the pump to take the bill?  She was fumbling around, while being videoed by her mom.  She couldn't figure out you need to GO INSIDE AND PAY first.   Yup, this is OUR future.

you can't send them after  shore line or cant hooks because these kid have no reality, they think they will  be crowned king of a fortune 500 company a week after they graduate . The kids who will be are future have it going on now ,they are the one working with there fathers and uncles . or working summer jobs cleaning yards and not afraid to get dirty,or that sweat is to be frowned on. yea it may be tougher in the intercity. But IT work isn't going to make this country great again.it is welding steel ,pouring concrete, and building top class cars and trucks  in American factories .At the heart of every engineer should beat the heart of a mechanic .

Some others things old guys send the new ones to find or do.

A Pussyfor the wait for them to ask what's a pussy for. Always a good laugh. They never ask again.

An adjustable socket wench.

Kitty Litter, They alway ask what for and where is the cat. It's for soaking up oil, dumb ass.

Worked with a guy (real name) Dick Head. Tell the new guy to go meet Dick Head and make sure to say "are you a real dick head".

We would be fired or socially unacceptable now for all the stuff we did to the young ones in the shop but that is how they learn. It was all good fun.

We are all doomed with how everything is now anyway.

Some are smarter and have a good sense of humor, I sent the new kid out to get a bucket of live steam, little smart ass came back with the bucket with dry ice in it. Course he also put Fish Eye Reducer in to Hammer Tone paint because he said it had fish eyes...canceled out the dry ice.

Back in my Army days on a Chaparral  Missile crew, we sent our brand new LT. in search of a "launch rail stretcher".  Kept him gone all day!

Years later, at the firehouse, we sent the rookies to the truck to retrieve the "water hammer".  Other favorites include getting them to "jump start" a roof saw (akin to push starting a stick shift car) by running as fast as they can, bent over so the blade of the circular saw contacts the ground to make it spin fast (usually video taped) or the game of dropping a quarter off his nose into a set of stacked nozzle tips shoved down the front of his pants (like a funnel).  When he leans back to balance the quarter on his nose, a glass of ice water is dumped down the stacked tips!

Plate stretcher...ya had a guy from work that used to do that at his previous job.  He told of a new fellow that fell for it.  He went building to building as EVERYONE was in on it and would keep the story going.

We had the "sun scope", from same guy above^^.  Piece of 1/2" conduit, about 16" long with welding lens taped over the end.  There was paper towel packed in the end also.  You would hold it in your hand, with thumb over the end as you held it to your eye(always toward the person you are trying to get).   Of course it is filled with water.  You stand out looking at the "lunar eclipse", getting the new guys attention.  Pass it around to a few guys, then the new guy gets it and just puts it to his eye(not covering the end with his thumb) and gets a bath.  I lost track of the guys we got with that over the years.

anyone stupid enough to not know where to buy a postage stamp has no rite to vote anyway.

Now, now every idiot has a right to vote. It's the process of dumbing down American. First we'll help you with your ballot next they'll be telling you who to vote for.

The dumbing down starts in our schools. Our youngest graduated or should I say he got a diploma for participating. A gold star for everyone. He wasn't taught anything about the Constitution. He left school with ZERO life skills. He can't read a ruler, balance a check book let alone write a check.
