pretty nice. makes ya wonder how something like that survived and is in perfect patina without even the frame all cobbled up. think the only thing id do is reupholster the seat and spray the while thing down with wd40 or fluid film

I was always told one of the biggest advantages of chain drive was the ability to change gearing for different jobs by simply changing the drive sprockets..

There was the article somewhere in the net, I found it googling Mack AC.

The main matter I remember is the most of the vehicles those days had chain drive. Trucks had, sport cars had and so on.

Ability to change ratios easily. Generally a single sprocket change to go up or down on ratios. Less chances of parts breakage before Metallurgy caught up to the needs. An axle will snap under extreme stress, a chain will stretch.

MACK AC, FK and other models until the 40's, Pacific 26 ton tank transporters, Sterling and Peterbilt up to the late 40's all had chain drive as standard or an option.

That was one of Six in a yard in France and I understand all were sold or scrapped along with quite a few MACKS. Frenchiemack on here knew about them.

One of our old drivers,now deceased was in the Navy.He said they used to haul trucks,jeeps,tanks,bulldozers,etc. from areas in the Pacific after the war and take them out to sea and shove them off in the ocean.

In Europe after the war ended, my dad was in France with German POW's rebuilding trucks and Engineer equipment for the post war reconstruction. WWII U.S. Armor was given to reequip the Allied Armies. When I was in Vietnam in '70-71 we were sending our "extra" equipment to Thailand and Laos as we were winding down ops. Desert Storm Bush Stock Piled a lot in the area and brought the rest home. Only the current powers abandon equipment. Paul
