  3. Both cabs were built by Sheller Globe in Ohio, But there were a lot of differences.. Besides what Green Giant said there was also a difference in the cowl as Brockway was still using the butterfly hood instead of a tilt hood.

  6. Red Horse, You are right on the Blank Look!!!! The Super Duty name replaced Big Job in 1958 with the introduction of the 401,477, and 534 Built for trucks engines.

  10. Agree, but at least that yellow one does NOT have the "Devil's Horns" spot mirrors sticking out of the middle of the hood.
  11. James, before the White buyout (1958) Diamond T used the IH Comfovision cab, like shown in the above picture. After that they used both the REO cab for vocational use and the Autocar cab for over the road trucks. After 1960 All Diamond T, REO and some special order HD Whites were built at the REO plant in Lansing Mich. Three identical trucks could come down the assembly line and drive out the door as three different makes!! On May 1st, 1967 White motor combined DT and REO and created the name Diamond REO.
  12. Steve, It all depends on the load.. Bob tailing or with an empty trailer you can get away with just the main, then slip in a few auxiliary gear changes to keep your speed/ RPM's comfortable. Then after you are used to both boxes then you can play with the progressive splitting especially with a load on the trailer.
  13. When we went to Alaska I reemember noticing the docks in the freight hauler terminals with the dock edge / plate sticking out about 6 foot so that this type of straight truck and B double lead trailers could back under the dock to be loaded / unloaded.. Noticed them as I drove by so sorry no pictures..
  14. He has participated in the South Carolina Special Olympics Convoy with that truck for several years now.
  15. Yes, More pictures of your car!!!! And the progress..

  17. The R model Macks were used as road tractors pulling double 28 foot PUPS. also most were set up to take the converter dolly and make it into a "Clip On" tag axle for pulling 48 footers
  18. If you could cut NYS off at Interstate 84 and let the southern part drift out to sea and sink, The rest of the state might become a decent place to live in again.
  19. They are also stating that the BOD meetings and various speakers will be live on their Website?? But so far they have not got the new website working anywhere near right, So I will NOT hold my hand you know where!!!!
  20. For those of you who have not seen it before. Some of Tony's collection is on the bottom 2/3 of this page., taken in 2015 on the ATHS Down Under Tour. His personal truck, the Southern Cross, is a 50th year anniversary truck. http://forums.justoldtrucks.com/84264/Down-Under-Trip?PageIndex=7
  21. The ATHS Palmetto Upstate Chapter has also canceled their April 25th Spring show in Tigerville SC.
  22. Various states had short length laws, SO shorter tractors meant longer trailers.
  23. There is a NASCAR display transporter based along I-85 in Gaffney SC with a whole fleet of those trailers.
  24. Harry, I believe that Brockway always used their own frames (????) especially as the majority were built for semi off road, severe service, duty.. It has always been claimed that the prototype 1978 Brockway became the American Mack Superliner. So it would not surprise me that Mack of Australia borrowed many of Brockway's developments. Especially for Outback Road Train work. I also do not believe that the Mack and Brockway design engineering departments worked together much until into the early 70's when Brockway started to use the Sheller Globe built Mack R model cab that Brockway introduced in 1974 or 5..
  25. Check in with Geoff Weeks over on the Just Old Trucks website.. He has a couple of trucks with Air Start and swears by them...
