guess it's another sign of memory fade, never noticed 15/18's main on the right==10/20's main on the left. at one time :WAY back I could do 3rd high to 4th low with one hand . levers close enough to spread fingers move both levers same time on the duplex.

Onyx,  it just seperated,,, no pressure on it or anything else...  I have a new one coming,  now to explain to my customer that MackVo may not warranty it..  I only had for 2 hours before I installed it..  $130.00 part...  oh well,,,   jojo

Most of my experience was with the "720" series (overdrive 5th).

can remember the trans with external compound shift rails. might have been big and heavy, but easier to set on a proper jack for removal. except for one occasion pulling a quad from dm611sx using a borrowed car jack,NOT my idea: top plate maybe 8-10 in square and it was old ratchet style. outside on a piece of plywood that cracked as we moved it. maxi torques came along had to make adapter plates for the transmission jacks to cradle the top heavy tri shafts.

most of us these days are using converted motorcycle lifts...i pulled the trans and transfer case out of a 1970 chevy pickup one time years ago myself no help with a car jack,,,very risky haha,,,i wouldnt have the balls for that now...lol.bob

In the late 60's I removed, repaired, and replaced a Heavy 4 speed transmission in a F-700 Ford straight truck on a dirt floor with 2 pieces of rope and a stack of used pallets.. That took a little Yankee ingenuity and experience in tying down loads of hay..

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarite I change the clutch on the DM a while back with a pallet Jack And some stacked pallets and 4/4s giterdone

Most of my mechanical skills came from trial and error, mostly the error part!  I'm a quick study and I rarely make the same mistake more than twice.  Since y'all have been talking transmissions, here's another story from my early days working on cars.  This was late 1977 and I had a 1967 Pontiac Executive with a bad transmission.  I still lived at home and used my Dad's garage to do the swap.  The garage was large, with two bays and a full second floor, but the concrete on the bottom floor was broken up and mixed with dirt filling in the large gaps.  This was my first transmission swap.  How hard could it be?

The front wheels were up on ramps and I had just enough room under the car to get to everything (I'd NEVER fit these days!).  I removed all the obvious bolts, the drive shaft, transmission cross member, cooling lines and linkage without problem.  With the cross member gone, the tail-shaft almost touched the floor.  Not being concerned with the bad transmission, I pulled it away from the engine and it fell right out.  Quite pleased with myself, I pulled it out from under the car and wrangled the replacement transmission back under.  Using a long pry bar, along with bricks and 2x4's for cribbing, I moved it up into position and discovered my mistake.  The torque converter was still bolted to the flywheel!

I called a buddy for advice.  He told me where the bolts were and that there were 4 of them and to use a big screwdriver on the flywheel teeth to rotate it to each bolt.  It was dark when I got back to it and the only lights in the garage were a single bulb in each bay, one of them being directly above the car.  I also had a light on a cord under the car with me.  My best friend had stopped by for moral support.  I found the first bolt and removed it, then rotated the flywheel to the second and so on until I had removed the third bolt.  It turns out that GM cars only have three bolts, so when I rotated the flywheel again, the torque converter fell off, landing on my right cheek, slamming my head into the floor.  Everything went black.....

When I came to, my buddy was pacing back and forth next to the car, not knowing what to do.  I told him to grab my ankles and pull me out.  The torque converter had landed so that a lot of transmission fluid poured all over my face and it had hit my light, breaking the bulb.  Once out from under the car, I told him to find me a rag, so I could wipe off my face.  As I came into the light, he saw red all over my face and took off running.  I could hear him puking outside!

At that point I quit for the night, but installed the transmission the next day.

similar story here. when i was around 14 i came out from under a car covered in trans fluid. mom see it and almost had a heart attack!.

to this day, i still call blood trans fluid. 

get a cut and blood dripping down the arm? damn it! i sprung another transmission leak!  😆

comical the way professions are related to a person life. after the heart surgeon went through his technical explanation of my open heart surgery , i looked at him and said" so your putting in a piece of heater hose."LOL   years ago i finished painting the trim on a house; paint was red my pants were light colored. my Grandmother saw the pants which looked like blood splattered. She started rattling off in Polish  trying to see where the "blood" was coming from. such a sweet Lady.😄

I my goodness....   I did something that almost got me killed....   (By my Dad)...  I was (17),and working on my '69 Camaro, under the hood.. it was mid winter in Maine, the snow banks from the plow truck were very high..  While working under the hood, a tranny line burst and sprayed me and the engine with ATF.  with the engine running, the fan blade threw the fluid up the snow bank,  so , of course I had to have fun with this.  I pulled my left hand inside my coat sleeve and went running the house jumping and screaming,  " I just cut my hand off!!! "... My Mom found me and looked out the window to see the ATF sprayed up the snow bank, and she lost it!!!!.. when I pushed my ' perfectly fine hand' out of my coat, my Dad came after me and well,,   He didnt see the humor in it..  Jojo

i think it is amazing we all are still alive with some of the pranks, or stupid stuff we did as kids. 

but then again, we are probably still alive only because out parents did the same stupid stunts.

Sometimes when I look back, I wonder how I lived to 18 to become a man?? The life of a farm kid was rough at times!!!

damn dave thank god your still here,,that was horrible.....all i got is pulled an automatic transmission out of a 55 belair at 18,,outside and it was 16 degrees ,no problems but no i would not do it now...lol.bob

other than that my poor mom,would have had kittens if she knew how dangerous my job was working in a truck tire shop for a while at 17,doing mostly split rim tube type tires ,,and mechohaulic,,,as far vas getting dissy i swear im getting dumber by the minute between covid and age and being out of work past month and a half...geeeeeeeeeeeesus,,,,feels like at this point ill be braindead in no time...bob
