  1. Yup some one got sold a bill of goods when they were building these trucks the Leader in cooling tech! YUP You bet! they started flinging oil out prior to the PDI or shortly there after! They probably bought up the seconds that the borg warner had or something!
  2. YUP Its down right stupid!
  3. Looks like its on the out let side no big deal However not being able to get one is a big deal He can't modify it its a warranty item the bafoons with throw it back in the dealers face and not pay if they do a mod without getting permission to do so! So much politics to warranty you wouldn't believe it! once the warranty is dun you can do what ever you need to do ! in my mind a peice of jobber flex and 2 band clamps and your done FIXED!
  4. I agree if its bothering you do the above how ever if its running good leave it alone! I seen these with a fare amount of blow by and still be reliable as hell!! Oil is cheap! As a side note pay attention to the situation in your mirrors or have someone follow you if you have any longer grades in your area with the engine brake on or pulling see if you notice the blow by increase there is a vague possibility that the turbo may be causing this issue Seen this happen several times ! just something to look for!
  5. This can also be caused by a broken throttle lever if the spring is worn in the lever it can let the shaft move in the pump Check the lever before getting to carryed away.
  6. I beleive it is a direct couple as you have it!
  7. There is drain back valve in the rear right side of the fuel pump block next thev governor houseing under the shut down lever it’s real hard to remove it’s usually a hammer and punch show it’s round with screw driver slots on it Allen screw in the middle!it likely needs orings replaced have an oring kit handy!
  8. Bro Its Either shutting down on High coolant temp Low oil level low oil pressure Low coolant level usually will not shut the engine down ! Low oil level Sum times depends on programming! I would Lean heavy towards replacing oil preasure sensor! These are or have be a pain in the as from time to time! By the way create your own post for this you will get better press! More guys alot smarter than me ! will respond to a new post!
  9. If it is a shut down by lack of oil pressure or over heat low coolant it should have codes it would also give you a one minute warning before shutting down! You need to clarify more info better help!having said that it issued garbage truck rat chewed wiring is common on these! Yup could be a. Wiring issue
  10. Not sure they are fixable! you can maybe improve but fix not so much
  11. Thanks Terry thought I was just stupid or something!
  12. They created a steep service kit for trucks doing this kind of work It involves moving the breather vent from the existing spot on the front of the engine to the valve cover! If you know someone that can aluminum weld you can make your own valve cover to accept the breather!
  13. Again ! Is the guy driving in the power band 1400-1700 is an example!1200 -1850?Most engines have a sweet spot!
  14. Short answer to yes Everyone uses cheap wire it keeps us folks that work on em employed! We have gone from repairing trucks for a living to chasing gremlins for a living! Ghost busters revisited! All thanx to cheap wire and dollar store sensors and half baked computer programming!
  15. Unfortunately there are a few special tools to do this job in the truck and the parts will not be cheap these parts are usually available thru PAI at a bit better pricing how ever it will still be pricey! Just saying!
  16. Just a small correction to the above note! 😂 Two fairly quick and easy checks and repairs would be checking the range shift cylinder o-rings. #1 in the picture could be your culprit for jump out of low range, if you have oil in this cylinder you definitely have a bad seal. >>>Firstly<<<, check the yoke bolt is tight on the back of the transmission. The range cyl can be removed with out taking the trans out as long as you can make the room under the cab /exhaust out of the way to get the rear lid off!you need about 8 inches!
  17. Your looking a a 3000 dollar repair in my mind i would do the fuller
  18. Are you saying putting a little vacuum to it is just a way to check it? YES >>>It just will not hold power at high rpms, gradually and smoothly "derates" itself <<<< this comment Raised my Eyebrow !
  19. If you can determine which cylinder is causing the issue these pumps have a track record For the delivery valve washers cracking Its a simple fix if you have the right socket to remove the delivery valve! If you have a fuel shop near you? you could stop by and have em check this!
  20. Are you positive you need more rpm? It maybe be the puff limiter has a hole in the diaphragm! remove the hose from the manifold to the puff limiter and suck on it if it will not hold vacuum you have a compromised diaphram!
  21. That small hose comes from the air governor same one that controls the compressor Once system preasure is reached the governor and that line signals and unloads the air drier till that line has no air on it the air drier stays in the unloaded state! Do you have the lines plumbed to the right ports in and out! just asking? Is it an exact replacement or is it retrofited ! I personally like the Good old AD9 air drier might get flamed for this comment how ever My opinion! Tried and true!
  22. The Shut down light would come on first! before this would happen all three are a one minute warning before shut down! I would be checking the vmac plug on the fuel pump! take it apart and put it together half a dozen times and try it see if the situation changes! if it does you have two choices have the plug repined at the dealer IF THEY CAN FIND their special crimping tools OR hard wire the pump to the harness! just a thought!
  23. Hows your charge air cooler any boost leaks? shouldn't have black smoke under load unless your lugging it! an over fuel /lack of air situation may be causing this issue ! also if you have a viscus fan are you sure its working correctly?
  24. Because of the year of this truck it could be computer controlled or mechanical fuel pump you need to clarify this! Joe h has mentioned a very good point replace the accessory relay .check your battery and starter connections
