  1. Usually I here the resolution ! Like I said they usually work thru the possible up steam causes first the DAM programing up grades/ egr flow fuel doser crap /def doser issues Crystal build up ect, often caused by cracked ash cans and air leaks within that sector To rule out the obvious and , Then Canon the nox sensors, only way to be sure, AND MACK DON"T TELL YOU F all How you've fix it if the last thing you do is parts canon! If it fixes it you can attribute it to overpriced Dollar store Parts! Really ,No different than what we've been talking about with this possible blow by ,oil slobber issue,! fred
  2. In the case of these new emission units sometimes you have no choice Nox sensors is an example Cheap Shit ! Hit and miss ! If eveything up stream checks out then Throw the TAIWAN part At it No Choice! We have some guys here at my shop that have good senses ! ME NOT included in this Group ! But have seen what they do And when they do it Most of This shit is just Magic To me! DON"T like working on it!Hurts My Brain! 🙄
  3. Yup so true if its burning it you won't see it due to the dpf!( IF )you can get the Turbo off with out breaking studs ! You may see a wet Cyl on the exhaust ports by removing the manifold!
  4. We Call it parts Canoning At our place! And is A last resort if you have exhausted your other resources!
  5. My opinion! We"ve Been told ! The fuel level is staying consistent? oil sample ? I have seen the turbos bad from the get go! Chase The facts Don't throw anymore parts till ya got some facts get an oil sample! If ya got the where with all Build some caps for the turbo and pressure it up with shop air ! two peices of flat 3/8 plate two pieces of 3/8 ready rod and some old mudflap and You can make the tool in under an hour! with this you can check Everything you need ! even Valve guides! remove the drain tube from the turbo put 40 regulated shop air psi to it This will test EVERY nook and cranny on the unit for leaks you may also have to cap the compressor outlet on the thing if its plumbed direct to the compressor! Just sayin!
  6. dosent mean the turbo aint faulty! while running at idle does it have alot of bloby with the the oil filler lid off?
  7. around 500 I beleive ! 450 is a little low But! Turbo can cause this ! Exhaust goes by the shaft seals under high boost!we built a tool to cap both ends the inlet air and exhaust side and aplly 40 psi shop air to it, to find this very issue Haven't seen it happen for quite some time
  8. First Check your crank end play ! if it's OK Say between 7/11 Thou ( Rough guidline ) then Tri running the Fly wheel sensor a little closer Back a 1/3 turn instead of 1/2 turn see if it improves you situation!
  9. Good to see your still hanging out Bro ! Thanx for the update on the botched ideas floating about ! Ahh so that drier may not be committed to as a standard issue !? We have had to convert several trucks to twin cyl compressors due to the hi air draw of the /M trans in certain work environments, In these cases the sales poeple need to change the specs when ordering vocational ! Amazingly enough, The (common Rail ) engines have been relatively OK and almost problem Free so far here ! The main issues are usually Emissions or wiring issues due to our environment Salt brine on the roads and so dollar store lighting issues, That go along with newly Untested VOLVO LIKE parts bought thru whom ever supplies things! Because we live in a wet climate air drier cartridges need to be changed Often to protect The temperamental HI module and reg or you end up replacing them like cord wood! Don't imagine its any different In KW or PETE land!
  10. Oh Buddy! Don"t get me goin didn't forget about it ! This truck is equipped with the teck water pump But not the compressor disconnect Odviously Cause IM sure that unit will include its Own Fricking module and Some Tecky relay to run the dam thing! And For Sure absolutely no Air Governor! Just some fiber optic Cable to magically turn it on or something! 😂And as a Maintenance Task you will need to replace clutch packs every three years or something! See Ya got me Going ! Stop now 🥵 f
  11. Thanx for the Like ! But If It wasn't evident Already ! My Feelings Are the same AS yours! Hence the reason to post it! I appreciate the like However, Just putting it out there to show everyone where the Industry is heading. If That were not evident already ! Just Adding insult to injury with this new stuff Yup putting the governor on the air drier is fine! KW has been doing it for ever But they use the same 40/50 year old governor > Cheap! This new thing not so much! If you were smart enough to have not traded your old units in your in good shape ! However There are places now that Won't allow old rigs on the claim , trying to be or pretending to be environmentally Conscious ! Keeps the banks and the truck industry happy and the guy tring to make a living Broke! VOLVO TRASH
  12. By the way you describe this it sounds like a torque limit switch wiring issue to me! if its a mack trans check the wiring to the switch on the range cyl on the upper back of the trans if so equipped! If u have access Vmac software check to see if the torque limit is enabled! Just sayin!
  13. So We received a New Anthem to PDI this Week, So while doing the check over We notice ! Hey!They have removed the Air governor It is no longer on the fire wall were they have been mounted for the last 20 years! Hmmm, went on the the search for the little guy! Yup no where to be found , so we had the parts guy look up the air drier as this seemed to be the only place it could be . Sure enough the governor Is Now built into the Air Drier ! Grrrrreat ! Now when you have issues with compressor build and the like, there is now no cheap way to check anything !We looked at the price for this fine piece of equipment ! Only 1700 dollars !The cartridge A bargain At 300 bucks Never priced the Little governor piece However you can bet It will be Cheap🤑 and easy to find😨! Makes me wonder Why We have to over complicate the simple ! That being said It Likely comes down to captivation or The Fact the air on these newer units need Air to be dri to run the M trans and And the emissions components, this unit may be more efficient in someones mind ! However I can't see the savings in removing a ten dollar valve and 8 feet of plastic tube and replacing it with a 1700 dollar piece of crap that will likely Fail in three years Cause no one can afford the cartridge every year! Again I don't no the specifics on this unit It may be the best thing since sliced bread when dring air, However guess its going to be tested on our next truck sale! Still looking on the internet to see which company is selling this unit. and what Its selling features are compared to the older wabco or bendix units! will post it when I find it! SO I managed to find this unit it is called a SYSTEM SAVER HP AIR DRYER Didn't realize there were others out there, possibly worse. possibly better who knows anyway We will see how resilient it is in a couple of years! Check it out here https://f01.justanswer.com/diesel3153/c9883f39-a857-4660-8748-c053bac5015b_Wabco_dryer_info.pdf 🙄 IF IT AIN'T BROKE FIX IT ANYWAY! 😡
  14. Chances are you have a failed EGR cooler ! usually the mass flow and the cooler will be changed at the same time! is the unit using any coolant?if the cooler looks like it has been replaced and the mass flow wasn't changed the code will remain! Another thing to note these engines were not horribly fuel efficient to start with! A guy Could lighten the situation You would need to make plate for beneath the egr valve an plug the coolant off to the cooler! Down sid is the malfunction light stays lit all the time and you won't know when important shit is going wrong!
  15. Never done this! However Thought about it several times! I think all a guy has to do is cap the oil supply line off(The econovance is spring loaded to the off position anyway) no pressure no advance ! and then tri and pick a suitable timing to to run it at So Say roughly 20 -22 degrees!Just my thoughts on it By no means Fact! Just a guess!
  16. If it had a v8 in it origana1ly chances are the the cat would shoe horn in there R700 Had a longer hood to accommodate the v8 and jober engines! As Terry mentioned R 600 Naw to much messin around!
  17. I like to work them a week or two then recheck em!Just me!Some guys don't retorque! What ever works for ya!
  18. Yup good Job John! were all happy to lend a hand if we can as was stated thats what its all about! Long as the pistons are all installed with front facing front your good to go!
  19. Milkmans suggestion top of the heep! Heres other stuff to try Lock out the interaxle diff See if it changes! = Tires size! Equal ?! Rest your foot Foot on the clutch pedal Listen to see if the noise is still there looking for worn linkage! check the trans tail shaft for tightness ! Ujoints loose ? Rims Are they Steel Buds? = check for cracked rims! Lots of places to look! Last but not least chec the diff plugs see if there is metal in the oil If there is lost of metal on an plug magnet you may have a failing diff! Not uncommon to have crown gear bolts break! Just sayin!
  20. Yup Believe its meant to be high temp !
  21. Big John! This may be off the mark Here but I am going to post it anyway! Early in the evolution of the drive by wire engines, to skirt regulations, manufacturers Were duel Mapping the softwear,If you were light on the throttle it went down the Bulldog bunny trail loafing along ,If you were aggressive with the pedal it would take the Bigdog road map for hills ! Point being ! Im wondering if you have a programing issue or self training issue , And you need to be driving with a more aggressive foot! Just a thought
  22. Also The rod cap is usually stamped with an M2 If its 2 thou under Double check your shells to be sure ! They did this some times rod by rod Worth checking! Use the mack stuff Or Permatex Ultra Gray/black works fine!
  23. The Line is an addon for more oil flow the jake is also fed from the bottom if memory serves! Any way the jake will not be damaged it just won't operate!
  24. Yup ! And no More than 2 thou variance between Liners Under the same Head! Also I your old Liners are at the (low spec 22) I would shim them 4 thou if the engine is 400hp or more ! That being said ! in your case It ran before with no head gasket issues It Will Probably run again fine ! just sayin
