Waiting on the cam from Lunati and the ProMaxx heads to be finished with the machine work, I need the heads to flow 425 to 435 CFM and port match the BDS intake. Block is cut for o rings, 10.65 comp for running 16 to 20 lbs boost. Back in 68 my 428 CJ Torino (Notch back-rare car would like to have it today) ran D/PS. what would a comparable class be today? The 428CJ was rated at 335 HP but I believe NHRA factored it to 365. I know mr. Joe & Joey personally. Just trying to get the little bugs work out of this one and then this. Had a 318 in another truck I bought for parts sticking it in today. Pistons and rods balanced to 1 gram of each other and full balance on assembly, 7500 to 8000 red line under 16 to 20 lbs boost. Engine is a Bill Thomas cast 496 Big Block Bowtie I don't care who assembled it I need to check all clearances and assembly myself. So thats why the pans off. My 55 fits in nostalgia gas easily since it has been a "gasser" since 1962. Rules The following rules were drafted with the idea that the Nostalgia Gassers Racing Association will conform to the intent of all True Nostalgia Gassers Associations. The intent is for all cars in competition to closely resemble the outward appearance of the “Gas Coupes/Sedans” class cars of the 60’s. Anything that makes a competitor appear like a “Bracket Car” will be disqualified from participating as part of the association. All decisions made by the tech committee of the association regarding any appearance issue(s) will be final. But most important; The Nostalgia Gassers Racing Association will be all about putting on a good show while having fun. Safety: All cars must meet NHRA safety requirements. It recommended that the cars be ETI certified prior to the start of the season. A one-time technical inspection by the Tech Committee and the track race director is required on all new cars before the vehicle can participate at a Nostalgia Gassers event. Body: The body must be 1957 or older. Body styles 1958 through 1962 can be approved by exception by the rules committee. All body types must be prior approved at the time a person applies for a racing membership. This rule does not apply to those who do not intend to race their vehicle. All current members’ vehicles are grandfathered as long as they own that vehicle. Cars must have the look of the mid 60’s gasser. All gassers must have fenders. No raised fenders. No aerodynamic changes not fitting to the appearance of a gasser of the 60’s. Example: No wings on rear deck Doors must open. Top may be chopped and body may be channeled or sectioned but must maintain look of original car. Total of 4 inches i.e. 2 inch chop, 2 inch channel = 4 inch. No modern looking snorkel scoops. All cars must have period correct paint schemes or primer. No wild modern graphics will be allowed. Suspension/Drivetrain: No Air or electric shifters 3 or 4 speed manual only No traction control. No all tube frame cars; must be rectangular box base frame. Front suspension, straight axle preferred, suspensions of the 60’s a must, subject to approval by tech committee. Car must be left or right hand steer, no center steering. Period correct wheels required. Wheel base 90” minimum, 120” maximum. Engine: Any ignition system is allowed, magneto, points, transistorized or MSD. Data recorders are not allowed. Rev limiters are allowed only to protect the engine. They cannot be used to control the car launch. If a car has a two step box the low side chip must be removed. No throttle stops. Any steel or aluminum heads and blocks allowed. Superchargers are limited to 8-71 and smaller roots type only. No delay boxes or crossover boxes are allowed and my not be installed in the car. Any intake and carb combination or mechanical fuel injection allowed. NO ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION WILL BE ALLOWED. Nitrous oxide is not permitted. If nitrous is installed in car both the bottle and solenoids must be removed from the car, not merely disconnected. All vehicles are required to have a non SFI lower containment device or a SFI lower engine containment device. No antifreeze in cooling system (water and non antifreeze additives okay). Cars must be self-starting (no remote battery carts or starters) and will have to drive under its own power from the pits to the staging lanes. And after the pass back to the pits under its own power. All gassers must dial in at 8.50 to 12.50 ET on .5 sec intervals in the ¼ mile. All rules are subject to change at the discretion of the Tech Committee. We reserve the right to refuse or expel any person or persons for conduct detrimental to the clubs goal of racing and having fun. The blown small block I put in in September lasted only 5 runs, but than again it was build in the 90's and laid in a container for 20+ years before I used it. I'm thinking that this engine is already doesn't have enough cubic inches. Came assembled but I do not trust anybody on my race engines but me. Seen to much "close enough" things or just stupid or unintentional mistakes. Example was my 261 GMC 6 for my 41 Chevy. Had Jack Merkel Racing do the over bore, deck the block, line bore and balance . I picked it up as an assembled short block. I popped the pan off to put a cast aluminum one and and saw they added balance weights on the con rods that were welded over the oil feed holes. Engine would have lasted a few minutes at best. They didn't know the rods had dippers and pressurized oiling. Don't ever assume the work is 100% even if I am standing there. Plus I always Rust O Lium the lifter valley to add oil return and seal the casting. But in my defense they are all port sealed and filled with Rust Veto. but they sit so I'm probably worse The one from the 90's would have lasted except for five 6500 7000 rpm launches at full boost. Nostalgia class says that you can only run a pair of any CFM Two Barrel carbs. So this one of the pair I bought on Racing Junk.com, one new one used for $500. 1100 CFM Holly Two Barrel dual feed carbs. Have to do a bit of machine work on the air horns, venturies and the throttle shafts to kick up the flow. Need to do some sizing on the jet plates and open the power valve port .003 to .004 Heads are due tomorrow or saturday and my grandson is polishing my 6/71 case and carb adapter. Still searching for a nice clean set of M/T cast Aluminum Valve covers and a 3" x 8.250 dia. lower blower pulley with a thin V belt adapter for my water pump drive. Rules require mechanical water pump not electric. Being a widower I can stay in the shop all hours now. Took them in to Cat where he works and sonic cleaned all the compound out. Nice job I think. Now I do bearings, Teflon impeller wipes and top cog. Still waiting on my heads to be finished being extrusion ported.
