  1. The one with the "cone" is a full floating axle. Those you don't hit when you take the six nuts off of it. The center of that cone is only a soft plug. The "cone' or drive plate is splined to accept the splines on the axle (just like in carrier on the side gears) the other type with the flange ( flange and axle shaft one piece ) is the ones you smack in the center to get out. Usually the wedges behind the nuts don't like to give up easily on older stuff and they can be frustrating to get out. I agree with the others , the front ones are likely from different size axles (weight and bearings) So likely not much of any of it will interchange between the two trucks.
  2. When Macks had grey engines in them, they had a pretty good idea of what would work together for the trucks application. Some stuff will go together in other configurations and some won't. Grey engines either had a wide torque band or a little higher horsepower ( one or the other ) the "torquey" ones often found their way into vocational trucks (mixers dumps) and had some form of extended range transmission. The higher HP ones usually went into road tractors that needed HP to maintain road speed and usually had transmissions with multiple gears for on road ( anywhere from 9 up ) Sorta a generalization ,but might help your decision
  3. I'm not sure. But if that picture is from the inspection hole on the top , it might be
  4. 72 series .. I thought I saw it in the picture he posted . looks like the part the release yoke comes in contact with.
  5. Some had some type that worked on the counter shaft on some models. NOT the one that is squeezed by the release bearing
  6. I doubt the engine you describe would work great with a 5 speed. Needs transmission with some gears and depending on weight maybe even a thought about axle ratio
  7. Weren't the Maxidyes (237s) with the two side by side and smaller compared to the engines with a tip fan that were one on top of the other and bigger diameter ? I think some with a Strata Tube had the air cleaner that was smaller on the top if it had the under hood draw for bad weather too.
  8. Not sure , but if it's a 350 it's not going to be the highest torque.
  9. Boy, they went all out . Looks like Guerrilla Tape ( the good stuff )
  10. Maybe he needs it to be some kind of compliant looking for where it goes. This is a interesting swap even if considered blasphemous by some. I never knew a Cat can communicate with a VECM on the Mack (maybe it can't) and yes....hot air. the air needs a little help get'n that lean fuel mixture to light on those environmentally friendly Cats 🤣
  11. You don't think a 673 would operate at 1020 RPMs 😂
  12. Just curious , do you understand how to start a cold diesel ? Cold engines need a rich fuel mixture . This means the throttle should be all the way to the floor during cranking !!!!!! BUT RELEASED AS ENGINE BEGINES TO FIRE !!!!!! this is a little tricky to master and only applies during cranking. Your description is pretty normal for a cold diesel engine. Like stated , nothing shy of a heated garage inside does the trick like an immersion heater. (fancy name for a block heater in case you find yourself searching and come across that name) Old Macks weren't the worst to get running in the cold, after it fires and runs by itself, it'll smoke (sorta whitish blue) and after a little idling adding a few hundred RPMs won't hurt ( @ 400 or so maybe somewhere around 1000 RPMs on the hand throttle ) Watch and make sure it has oil pressure and listen. It'll sound different than a 75 degree day for a bit. But after a little warm up, should sound about normal.
  13. What is it ? Looks like a 114 from the early '70s

Well need to keep an eye on him. If he starts showing signs of being offended by the best of biden thread.....well ??? that may signal a need for interventive action (s)

  19. Maybe the truck was at a point backed into something just right to hit the bucket and compromise it ???? Wouldn't take long to destroy the pad run'n it like that loaded .
