  1. I can think of plenty of 3406s that had broken cranks. I owned one that got a short block under warranty. E6 ? Notorious for cams, E7 ? Oil pressure issues that kept Jakes from working. E Tech ? Lots of problems with the overhead. They all have problems. One of the issues now is they're all way more complicated and less guys to work on them than ever.
  2. Come on......lets be fair here. I can remember as long back as I can remember (which is before I even knew what the stuff was) At first ? "those transmissions with the bronze in them were never gonna last" then "there's more and more fiberglass" then "I'm not driving anything my foot doesn't go straight to a injection pump" . Old trucks are cool..... but let's see anyone who's driven a new one do 4 or 5 hundred miles a day in an R Model with a 300 and a five speed after having driven an Anthem with a 505 and M Drive . Always been just work horse trucks. How many White 9000s you see restored ? Truth is we all love the trucks from our own era. That being said...... yeah, if there's a new Mack ??? It's game over for everything but the name. Volvo did it to White, GMC , even the mighty Autocar. Personally, I can't believe it's taken them so long to deep 6 the Macks.
  3. I get it. This is what trucks are now. I had a Heritage 4964 I bought brand new in '96. I loved that truck and it was tough, still going to this day. Unfortunately they're all a lot alike anymore.
  4. I get confused with things identified by multiple letters
  5. IDK what's that one with the fuses and breakers in the cab by the clutch pedal. They get issues inside them
  6. That thing by your feet. ( EMPD ) or whatever it's called
  7. Pretty innovative . Must be it works well too if the truck is used for actual work. Thanks
  8. E7 ? What's it use as an intercooler ? I'm a little envious of Dad by the way.
  9. I don't see what suspension is in this truck. Air ride ? Is the ride height correct ? Some type of spring ? Are there any worn components ?
  10. Wow, that's something how that wild sea gull isn't afraid to get so close to the vacationers .
  11. 7th gear (hi split) is direct gear in this transmission ( 1:1 ) if it's making noise in direct ? likely not the transmission. ( this applies to all manual transmissions ) If there's no metal on plugs from the transmission, there's probably nothing wrong with the transmission. Like the guys are saying, drive line or rears is most likely the culprit.
  12. Don't kid yourself, as new trucks go, those 49Xs are pretty good looking. Maybe the new (?) Mack will have some more trucklike eye appeal the a VNL or VHD
  13. You did the right thing.
  14. Not totally impossible for the truck to have drive line issues. U joints, carrier bearing (s) yikes. It can telegraph back to the engine. Rare but not impossible.
  15. Front and back are the same with AL they make a bracket for the sensor. That welded on hole isn't a total necessity
  16. Isn't that some kind of federal offense ?
  17. I think it's called (inter wheel power divider) as opposed to inter axle power divider
  18. Trust me on this one....there was an option for cam and wedges instead of spiders. Maybe it was only the back rear, but they made it. I'd have to agree, 92/93 ? they had to be abused beyond God only knows what or worn out from years of use. And yes , that one that was grenaded was total driver stupidity.
  19. IDK about wrong, but the carrier was bigger and the ratios were off a few tenths of a turn from 92/93s .....oh, and if you were lucky enough to have one with the cam and wedges instead of spiders ? in 1999 they were over five grand to get rebuilt (lol) I thought I remembered something about the HP dictating you had to have them. I had a '97 with a 454. Had to have them. My 2000 with the 460 ? 92/93s . And the one that was destroyed was in a cutoff I swapped into the truck in my avatar (E9) and that was destroyed when the guy got it stuck dumping in a sand mound .
  20. CL frame was the same as the RW for the most part, except the set back axle part. I sometimes wondered why they never made an axle forward CL 🤔 Mack was on their kick then that if it was over 400 HP it had to have 200 series carriers E7s and E9s in the beginning then Cummins and E Techs were the popular power. Don't see many in service anymore, but they were pretty good trucks. Never quite had the appeal of the Superliner though.
  21. IDK the shape of your CL, but I've seen plenty of them in New York do it .
  22. You can't see it in that photo, but most of the penetration is in the back side
  23. That Mack has to be at least 50 years older than the trailer, and they look great together . Timeless beauty.
