  1. All those trucks in the pictures have the same cab. Might sound stupid, but cab shocks and the front cab mounts (which often are wiped out) mean a lot. If it gets bouncing a little then gets telegraphed through a guy's leg to the throttle pedal it just makes it all worse. There are gas shocks available for them and in my opinion are worth the effort of changing. And let's not even get into the drivers who like the most expensive air seat and then have to sit on the floor with no air in it. Believe it or not, after thinking about this I remembered the truck in my avatar used to be able to go under 8 MPH on the switch in the dash (like if it had the idle kicked up) the other ones wouldn't do it. But I remember it helped in situations like you're describing. (that truck had Hendrickson RTE)
  2. Some of these newer things have so much off idle torque even feathering the throttle makes an impressive amount of torque.
  3. Yikes. I don't know which picture was worse. That one or Joey's burn. Hope you recover as fast and best as possible .
  4. Congratulations .
  5. Don't be so tough on the guy, he was likely moving a load if I Phones or something like that so people can get more information faster about all these fantastic ideas.
  6. Don't suppose it could be something like the type of tires you use ???? They look pretty nice, doubt there's anything neglected on the trucks (worn suspensions)
  7. There's a red B near me . Reminds me of what those may have looked like. At one point, I had one of Morrissey's B models parked at my place. Never know where some of these trucks will show up
  8. That B87 was quite the truck.
  9. Didn't they all come with a spare rim and some form of tools for lug nuts back then ?
  10. The three Bs, I'm assuming were only cab and chassis at that point ?
  11. Ahhhh..... I see . You guys down there all had serious equipment.
  12. I believe it. Was that a DePaul by any chance ?
  13. In all the years that truck was in service, would you have ever thought Mack wouldn't make trucks like that some day.

    Shop Talk

You'd like any of them . It's only around fifty bucks to be an ATHS member and they send you Wheels of Time 6 times a year. You get the one from the national show each year too.
  15. This is a little like The Price is Right.....but no Bob Barker
  16. I could be wrong, but I thought Econodyne came along with 4 valve engines. Same theory, but after the 300+ So you could have got a 4 valve Maxidyne or Econodyne. Back then, HP seemed to do more for maintaining road speed than torque it seemed, so the 300 Plus or later Econodynes did better in road tractors or stuff that was on the hiway more. Again, I may be wrong .
  17. 300 Plus was a 2 valve 315 HP engine . Wasn't Maxidyne, required multi speed transmissions (like a ten speed) as opposed to a 300 which was 285 HP and worked fantastic with some form of 5 speed. I have no idea why they called them what they did
  18. They look like anything else inside. I ended up getting a look inside it already while doing an oil change ( lol ) I guess there is a reason for not draining the oil out of the plug on the oil pan.. there's one bolt on the pan, if you actually took everything apart to get the pan off....it'd bee several hours
  19. I think they get a black eye because nobody is good at doing anything to them
  20. IDK 200 K and hasn't had a light on yet. Respectable power and drivability. Fantastic engine brake. Really lousy tech support from dealers.
  21. I have a Peterbilt now with a Paccar in it. Can't do anything to it, and I don't mean silly stuff like delete. Guy can't even change road speed or anything like that. Gotta go to Paccar. I have to admit though, it does kinda make me think it's like picked up where the gray engine was abandoned !!! DON'T READ THIS POST JOEY !!!
  22. I once watched some show on TV . They had a CH of some form with an MP (think it was a 7) race'n a Superliner with a E9. So of course the CH got to the finish line first. I thought it woulda been much more interesting to try the same thing on a 6% grade grossed out to around 100K There's somehting to be said about some of the older stuff
  23. I can remember when I was a kid (I had no clue then what guys meant) guys say'n those transmissions with the bronze in them wouldn't ever be around long (lol) Then it was the computer controlled engine (guys wanted their foot going to an injection pump) Stuff is so complicated now and proprietary as well. and yes....when there's an electric motor on each wheel end.... we'll miss what we have now.
  24. F, you're correct in my opinion. All these newer engines that are supposed to last so long seem like when anything goes wrong it's catastrophic. No matter the make. Upwards of 30K for a in frame ? find someone to actually do it ? truck sits for minimum of weeks before they get to it and get parts... Not like it used to be.
