  1. If those rims were here in Ohio, I would buy them. I want to run 20's on my truck but my rims are too rusty. I would think you could sell them on Craigslist. On your spinner, do the wedges tighten all the way down to where they touch the hub? If so, you've got worn parts. There should be daylight between the hub and the wedge when the nuts are tight.
  2. When I worked at the Cat dealer in Columbus, we had a chassis dyno which is a great way to put the engine under load and watch the temps, pressures, fuel flow, etc. Compared to the cost of an overhaul, it could be cheap insurance.
  3. There are so many things wrong with that truck, but I love it!
  4. Great photos! The worst one I had was in a steel nose R model (RD?) with a Cat 3406. One of the rods broke and flailed around the crank journal, busting out both sides of the block. I don't think anything was salvageable.
  5. NOS panel on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/202020943320?ul_noapp=true
  6. Thumbs up on that one, dogg rescue. When I worked in truck shops we found a lot of radiators plugged on the air side. If that's not it, how does the inside of the radiator look? Was the old coolant nasty? If that's okay, the water pump could be the culprit.
  7. Shore like that polished radiator and headlight panels!
  8. As for parts, wattstruckcenter.com carries a lot of B model parts. Kingofsalvage.com also carries quite a few B parts.
  9. Sorry to sound stupid, but what's the ground plane?
  10. Hobert, I like those fenders...where do you buy those?
  11. I don't have flaps on mine yet but I see a lot of trucks where the outer edge of the flap lines up with the outside edge of the tires...this looks nice. You could measure from the frame rail to the outside of the tire to get a hanger length.
  12. My like button is a little heart that you can choose different faces and things now...it makes me happy that I can put a little constipated face on posts!
  13. Great videos! If nothing else, you can get into the movie business to make some extra bucks.
  14. I went to the Hartford Fair pulls on Monday night in Croton, Ohio. Sadly, there were only 4 semi-trucks pulling and sadder yet, no Macks (where's Kendra Rogers when you need her?). There was a Brockway 459 that won the class; below are pictures of Brockasaurus and its KT Cummins motor. I also threw in pics of a cool KW with V12 Detroit...I like those double smokin' stacks! Another photo of a jet engined tractor burning off the excess fuel.
  15. Classic looking Super! I agree on the Lund.
  16. Welcome...your 31 sounds like a cool car. I agree, it's more fun to work on trucks.
  17. Here in Columbus Ohio there are a lot of folks that throw candy in the July 4 and Veteran's Day parades. It does get scary with kids running out into the street.
  18. In the early '70s my dad had a contract for one of his drivers to haul chicken offal in Jacksonville FL using tarp top dump trailers. When it got real hot that stuff would percolate and push out over the sides. A small town sheriff arrested one of the drivers for allowing that stuff to fall from his truck while driving through his town. One time a driver rolled his truck off the side of the interstate, I'll never forget the smell of that mess.
  19. Yeah, that torsion bar setup is a real beast. I worked at Pic-Way Shoes in the 80's and we had 10 of them. We spent a lot of time replacing bushings on them, and you have to take the weight off the suspension to get them greased properly.
  20. $750 or trade for $$$$...what a deal! I think I have some old $$ laying around.
  21. There have been several posts about this; if you type "valve adjustment" into the search box at the top right you will find some really good pointers.
  22. I worked at Cat in the early '80s...they made a lot of money fixing 3208s. They were a decent motor, but definitely not for a big truck.
  23. Mr. Gardner, that is some fine looking paint work on that truck. Glad to see people like you keeping the craft going.
  24. My wife and I went down to McConnelsville Ohio on Sunday and stopped at the Big Muskie Bucket. It's impressive; it's sad that they couldn't save the whole dragline. The sign said when it was built, it was the largest moveable machine in the world.
  25. Those have the low-flow cooling system; watch those aftercoolers because they are finicky and don't last as long as regular aftercoolers.
