  1. Here in Columbus Ohio there are a lot of folks that throw candy in the July 4 and Veteran's Day parades. It does get scary with kids running out into the street.
  2. In the early '70s my dad had a contract for one of his drivers to haul chicken offal in Jacksonville FL using tarp top dump trailers. When it got real hot that stuff would percolate and push out over the sides. A small town sheriff arrested one of the drivers for allowing that stuff to fall from his truck while driving through his town. One time a driver rolled his truck off the side of the interstate, I'll never forget the smell of that mess.
  3. Yeah, that torsion bar setup is a real beast. I worked at Pic-Way Shoes in the 80's and we had 10 of them. We spent a lot of time replacing bushings on them, and you have to take the weight off the suspension to get them greased properly.
  4. $750 or trade for $$$$...what a deal! I think I have some old $$ laying around.
  5. There have been several posts about this; if you type "valve adjustment" into the search box at the top right you will find some really good pointers.
  6. I worked at Cat in the early '80s...they made a lot of money fixing 3208s. They were a decent motor, but definitely not for a big truck.
  7. Mr. Gardner, that is some fine looking paint work on that truck. Glad to see people like you keeping the craft going.
  8. My wife and I went down to McConnelsville Ohio on Sunday and stopped at the Big Muskie Bucket. It's impressive; it's sad that they couldn't save the whole dragline. The sign said when it was built, it was the largest moveable machine in the world.
  9. Those have the low-flow cooling system; watch those aftercoolers because they are finicky and don't last as long as regular aftercoolers.
  10. Nothing like getting things cleaned up and new paint on them! I notice your floor looks old...when you built your new shop, did you reuse the old foundation and floor?
  11. Great video, snowdog! I think the R model captures the spirit of Clint Eastwood in the western movies.
  12. Wah wah wah! I've got The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly on my Hulu watchlist right now. I wonder how many times I've watched this over the years...Speaking of westerns, when they remade True Grit with Jeff Bridges, a lot of people said it was better than the original and The Duke was overweight and out of shape for the original. I watched both, and those folks are full of hooey! The remake was good, but John Wayne was stellar in the first one. My favorite Wayne movie was Big Jake...what about you guys?

In order for that H to be worth $6,500, either the cab would have to be rust-free or it would have to be road-ready. I don't think that's the case.
  14. Looks like some rust, especially at the drip rail. Seller says the 237 runs good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-U-Model-Mack-Truck-Single-Axle-Tractor-runs-/132273312470?hash=item1ecc1a92d6:g:MBkAAOSwzVhZd4Hq&vxp=mtr&autorefresh=true
  15. One thing I do is send the photos to my computer first ("wifi photo" is a free app that works great), then they go right into the attach box. I hope this helps.
  16. Wayne, that's a nice-looking Suburban...looks like you have no problem getting around in the snow or mud.
  17. I saw this B on ebay with a Cummins...I recognize the fuel shutoff solenoid, but not the valve cover! What Cummins is that? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-Mack-/152635252513?hash=item2389c51f21:g:L8oAAOSwW9ZZdNeg&vxp=mtr
  18. 66dc75, that is a classic lowboy...love that curved gooseneck. Nice looking trailer.
  19. Great pix guys! Montana is a beautiful state. Along with what Truck Shop said, a few years back we rode bikes (the pedal kind) on the Route of the Hiawatha in western Montana...absolutely beautiful country.
  20. Early '80s 3406b was a good motor...if it's been maintained, it should be a nice engine.
  21. Yes, I've lived in Johnstown Ohio for the past 25 years. The humidity was so bad today my shirt was dripping with sweat. Last month we spent a week in St. Lucia which is almost as far south as Venezuela and the humidity wasn't nearly as bad.
  22. Is that a Hendrickson walking beam? How do they ride--smooth or not?
  23. Looks like a hot day, but very low humidity makes it comfortable. I lived in Las Cruces for a year; I liked it a lot. Of course now with global warming, it's probably hotter than back in those days. Or is it global cooling? I keep forgetting.
