  1. Talking about flipping butts out the window I have always said you don't see them flipping butts out in the weeds in front of their house. But that's how my pasture gets burnt some times.
  2. It can be done with out them but some times the fingers come loose from the ring that contacts with the throw out brg.The three bolts will go down in the middle of the springs and if you look down in there you will see the threaded holes.I would use them if it was me. But if you back off each bolt that holes the pressure plate to the flywheel little at a time you will be ok.But why take a change. If I remember its just corse thread 3/8 bolts
  3. Check and see if the turbo is turned same direction. One may have a manifold that the turbo sets straight out and one may be mounted upwards some.
  4. But you are going backward. You want be happy after rumming the 4 valve.
  5. I would split to if nothen else but to replace the pilot brg.I am glad your smart enough to cover the intake with tape.I have for 40 years worked with grown men getting paid to work on trucks that will not and have never and never will cover a open intake. Most of them say they ant going to drop nothen.
  6. The green filter is more filteration than the red filter. It needs to be on for the smaller dirt. The red filter is like a catch big rocks.
  7. Put it any were you want cause its still going to have same fuel pressure. The engine does not ever use all the fuel that the supply pump pumps.Height will not hurt it either. Some of the fuel is by/passed to the tank any way and it has a fuel pressure regulator valve on it.
  8. Wait till you have hazmat mix up with a accident.
  9. The engine that uses the pointer on the front with the marks on the damper will have the pointer spot welded to the front cover so if there is no pointer there the marks may be on the flywheel.
  10. You will have to change to a older valve.I have done tried this for a dump trucker.I know of a few guys that wish they had the newer valve that would not stay in place. What I mean is they spent a lot of time and money for parts trying to fix the stop lights for staying on. but this was on a bobtail truck.
  11. On the engine with the timing marks at the bottom of the flywheel there should be a mark in the center of the housing and the flywheel will have a set of marks in degrees on it with tdc at the beginning and it should have 1/6 marked on it. The turn wheel some more to 2/5 and then 3/4 marks on the wheel. This engine could be mismatched with parts.it happens.
  12. That is the low air pressure sending switch for the buzzer
  13. I can talk to some fool that is talking to his self 1000 miles away as easy than talking to some one running with me.A lot of noise out there.
  14. The one on the left is a reservoir for the shutter cyl oil.The one on the right is a air compressor governor which can be replaced with the newer model of D2.To lift the cab remove the steer wheel from its shaft and slide a wood 4 by 4 thru the door opening with the doors opened and use a over head hoist.
  15. With 20 degrees out side and 20 min.of idling at 900 rpm it takes my engine with new thermostat about 20 miles to come up to 150 with out a load. The slower timed engines does not warm up as fast as we would like. The electronic engines with a ecm should warm faster than the mechanical engines.
  16. Two battery will start a mack engine but it is hard on the starter and alter. They have a shorter life
  17. This driver was getting on the big road too fast and hit the concret. It took the roof off with engine as well. The driver that runs in front of me came along just as fire trucks got there and he says the driver was still in his seat and holding the steering wheel like nothen had happened.Unhurt but shocked that he had lost control.
  18. If the filter housing has two big and one small oil line it would be a full flow and part 3 is and has been for 50 years 236 GB311A If its good two small lines its a by/pass and just ask for a luberfiner 500
  19. I still cant find any one that voted for the crackhead.
  20. But I had forgot how nasty lucas is when you tear a engine down. You just cant get if off your hands with out washing them.I pulled my engine apart a few months ago and had forgot about it.I run 1/2 gal to 7 gal of oil and it makes jakes work some better. But it ant going to do a overhaul if that is what your trying to dodge.
  21. That's the way I run until I warm up I amt good for nothen.
  22. Here Texaco oil had I think 5 GMC with that engine. I worked nights then at freigfhtliner and I had most of them saved for me to tune up and I think they needed that done ever two months. The firing order and plug wiring was done like two inline six cyl side by side and they had two dist caps running off of one dist. They also had some autocars with 250 cummins and the drivers claimed they would run with the 250 cummins in the hills but would run faster on flat land.I think I remember them turning 3100 rpm but do know they had a tamper proff governor. It wa vacummin and if you disconnected itit would only idle and the weights for the governor was in the oil pan on the oil pump. They had a single one piece block and crank but four heads. In 1966 the mack dealer here built 5 or maybe more F model cab over mack from scratch with that engine as power.Ten speed roadranger trans with SQHL on Henderson springs.
