    • Pardon my bad drawing, I never was good at it. With a weir stat, the coolant flow through the engine for a given speed remains constant, regardless of it the 'stat is open or closed or 1/2 way between. With a conventional "stat" the flow is restricted to the small bypass line until the 'stat starts to open and more and more coolant goes to the radiator.  The weir stat provides good flow all the time, so no "hot spots" when the engine is cold but working with flow reduced like can happen with a conventional 'stat. It take a different housing to use one or the other, the seal around the weir is something not there in a housing that takes a conventional "stat. weirstat.pdf
    • Thank you very much clearly i need to do my homework on the thermostats. Hopefully will find the right one. Also thanks for the info on the fan blades too.
    • Coupla comments. If you look at the line drawing Vlad posted, you'll see the thermostat goes in horizontal and the outlet to the radiator is in the center of the housing with a seal between the weirstat and the housing. Yours is a conventional type where it sits with flow over the bulb and opens to the radiator through the "shutters" in the stat.  You'll need a different water manifold, T stat housing and plumbing to switch between types. It isn't simple, and finding the right 'stat for that housing would be much more simple. Fan blades are made like that to reduce noise, nothing wrong with that type. They are common on engine without a fan clutch as they are turning at full speed (engine speed) at all times.
    • Geoff weeks sorry missed your message. My housing looks like it was ment for a thermostat like that. But still asking around shops that work on the renaults to see if i can find a good match for mine
    • So a funny little update. You guys remember how i wanted a 20 speed on my truck and i might be wrong please correct me if I am. Took out the transmission today it turns out i actually have a 20 speed on it but the Lo-Lo and Lo-Split being stuck shot and the plate saying its a 9 speed. I remember someone actually telling me that i might have one on it with the wrong plate. I will share the photos i took it might be my lack of experience making me think i have a 20 speed.    Another update on the truck The guy selling it to me instead that its a b85 but it is not its a b43 dont really change much for me and i was very suspicious of it being a b85 since I couldnt find any b85 with its configuration.    Another question and maybe i should start a new post since this one is getting old but. The radiator fan is very oddly shaped distance between blades are different is there a reason for this or do i just have a terribly built fan. I will also uplod photos of it
    • Saw an add on face book showing the new MD electric with a Volvo cab? I thought the MD was sticking with the Commercial Vehicles cab for now. Quite confusing for sure.
    • - Mrsmackpaul thank you for the tips next time im doing aluminum welding i will make sure to follow these instructions. - vladislav this is amazing thank you very much. Yes this is the type of thermostat i need its great to have photos of it will make finding one much much much easier

This is the current condition of my 47 EE project. The rebuilt EN271 is out and we are in the process of checking the fit of a big block Ford. It is the same truck that’s in my thumbnail photo taken a few years ago. I have managed to acquire all the new rubber cab seals and many are installed. I have a painless harness as well.

That engine and trans are on a pallet and probably weigh around 900. I believe the clutch is new and the trans was gone through.
Louisiana is a fair distance from the middle of Washington!
That said, all the cab rubber body parts had to come from Massachusetts and it took over 3 grand for all the window, door, cowel, fender and more pieces to get everything. I found some parts back east but they are not cheap.

      - I double sticked and old Mack to feed a stone crusher in 12 and 14 hour shifts six days a week all summer to pay for my chemistry degree.
      - Because I wanted to sleep for 1 min and 26 seconds each trip out of the quarry at the crusher's vibratory dump box at the top the quarry during those 12 hour shifts, I bulled the old MACK up long 20 degree and sometimes steeper grades.
      - THAT meant that I split each gear 1, 2, 3 after coming out of boggy low.
      - All I did was rev to the right engine note, reach my left arm down through the steering wheel to hold the curve I was on or hold the truck's path steady; slip out of 1st, throw the 2nd stick high into low and slip into 2nd gear... rev to the right engine pitch, slip to high.
      - Then when it was time, reach through the wheel again, slip high to low and 2nd to 3rd {if I correctly remember 60 years ago}.
      - The Igneous rocks were too heavy and the grade too steep for me to ever get into 3rd high.
      - The crusher team were the mechanics for everything and had replaced the old Mack's tranny gears because they had been ground too much. - - They later told me they didn't believe me when I told them I slipped all my shifts because the gears showed no wear.
      - Except for start and stop; Not once did I use the clutch because that made my leg ache too much after an hour or so.
      - I slipped all my standard 4 speed shift vehicles all my life...just to be with the music of the engine and car or truck.

      - I hardly ever change disc pads or brake shoes because I always slipped my gears downshifting...
_ I learned that because the synchro rings got shot on my 1968 Volvo 122S 2-Door 4-Speed with an electric overdrive because I stupidly speed shifted and ruined them. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-volvo-122s-17/
      - [Note: That Volvo's original owner was a Canadian Submarine Captain who rallied it and that is why it had Volvo's unique electric overdrive.]

      - {I clear coated over the bone white with Cadillac Firemist Green and painted the grills Black because they were dented...gosh it was stunning.}
