  1. I had seen this picture of the truck before. I thought it was gorgeous. Now that I see the other pictures it's got a few things I can do without like the doors and maybe the graphics. Still, Its a hell of a lot nicer than what I have and I appreciate the time, money, and effort to build it. That has to be one proud driver to run that thing.
  2. I watched BJ too. Stuff was selling strong. I've been to the Palm Beach auction and the Vegas one. Still haven't made it out to Scotsdale yet. My shop just sent 14 cars to Mecum in Kissimmee for this weeks auction. Should do very well down there. All of them are star cars and will be going off TV time.
  3. That would be a great haul vehicle for my shops two car trailer. Just have to watch my over all length.
  4. I'm trying to figure out what this is. Looks like a car carrier rack but what's the bed? Is it a rollback or straight flatbed or some kind of utility body? Any side pictures to show it?
  5. Snowdog- I said the same thing when I bought mine. Guys here are solid people. Give you a hand and advice no matter what you are building. They have helped me numerous times when I had questions about my General. Good luck and keep us updated.
  6. My father purchased a 944 in 1984. We used to get this Porsche magazine from them since he got the car new. When the 959 came out and they ran it at the Paris Dakar rally, I was hooked. I try to catch it on TV back in the day and now I try to remember to find out info on the web. The worlds greatest off road race. Besides watching the 959's, my favorite class of racers was the truck. To see this behemoths barreling through the desert at highway speeds over some nasty terrain was always entertaining. Thanks for the update! Now I have to catch up on the rest of the classes.
  7. Sorry I am late to the General party. That looks like a pretty good rig your buddy found. I like the sleeper, I wish I had a 48"-60" on mine. The bodies are aluminum so they take the weather pretty decent. No worry about the rust worm. Silvers came out in the early 80's. Mine is an 84 with a Silver 8v92 in it. Fleet Truck Parts (Google it) has bumpers under $400 if you don't go nuts with style options or just click this: www.fleettruckparts.com/Truck-Bumpers/GMC-General-Bumpers. Go all out and stuff an 12v92 in there. That will wake up the neighbors.
  8. Merry Christmas to one and all, including your family's, pets, and people you barely know.
  9. This has Mike Mackmans name all over it. Mike to the fushia courtesy phone. Mike to the glowing courtesy phone.
  10. Merry Christmas and Happy Festivus for the rest of us!
  11. That is so darn cool!i would love to buy that thing and make it a RV conversion. But I don't have the money, time, money, place to store it, money, skills to restore it, oh and lack of money.
  12. There isn't a AAA for trucks. Simply because a service like that really doesn't pay the towing company anywhere near a good rate. When you are paying $70,000-$100,000 for a single piece of equipment, it will take a lot of $25 tows and service calls to make those payments. Now bump that to a $250,000-750,000 single piece of heavy duty equipment, you need to charge accordingly to cover those costs. That's not counting insurance payments either. A national roadside trucking assistance program is a good idea but you will only have poorly equipped and trained companies doing it because of the minimum rates they will pay. Best bet is to shop around or call the repair shop and ask them who the most reasonable company is to haul your rig.
  13. When my General took a dump 1/4 mile after fueling I called around to a bunch of towing companies before I got someone to do it for less. I had to go 2 miles. Everyone wanted $300-350 just to show up + either mileage or hourly rate with a minimum of 1 hour. I called these guys and they said $275. When we got to my shop he said It was an easy hook up and tow so $225. I really appreciated it. I almost dragged it back with a tow strap behind a pick up but God forbid something happened, it would have cost a crapload more to me. Plus being a former towing operator and WreckMaster certified, morally it made sense to hook it.
  14. That's bullshit. It was $62 with 4 axles over the V before which was outrageous.
  15. No no no, that's the Government adjusted priced Hammer. Normally $11.99.
  16. Paul, thanks for the Hydro-boost tip. I already did that as there was almost nothing left in the pump. Topped it off and ran it side to side until all was well and quiet.
  17. If you guys are wondering why I haven't had much progress with the General, this is why. Putting some time and cash into this thing. So far it's got a new (expensive) bed cylinder that couldn't be rebuilt. New starter, rear brakes totally rebuilt and a new windshield went in yesterday. The old girl is coming along.
  18. This Boat is NObama free. Winfall Wimmins are an extra cost. Ill even leave the crab traps in it for you.
  19. 426 max wedge would sound pretty badass's in one of those with open pipes
