Sold my B75 yesterday to a nice young Gentleman from Easter KY. It was a cool old truck sitting up higher on a 78' R model Frame. but it had frame issues and I just didnt have the time to giver her what she needed. The kid already has a good western star frame with air ride rears and I think he might swap the B75 body and engine over into his good frame. This Truck has a 285 Tipturbine with a 5 speed and 3.87 rears. R model Steering and steering column that made it a breeze to turn. If had not been running since late october but we got it fired up pushing it with a cat excavator and he drove it up on the trailer. first time I had started it in winter temps and it was not too dificult all considering I was pushing with an excavator and had no speed with it. It was refreshing to see a young man with intrest in the old Iron. even brought his grand dad with him for the 20hr round trip. sad to see it go but hope this young man can do more with it than I can. Great guy if you know him heres some photos I took yesterday15 points

I would like to thank everyone for the support and comments during the restoration of my Coca Cola LJ , it’s pretty much done except for maybe some rear fenders,, My goal at 66; years old was to relax for a bit, finish repairs on my shop from the flood damage and enjoy some truck and car shows. But with the encouragement of my 10 year old Grandson ( And some friends that know what a Freedom Mack is) I’m going to try to restore Our 87 Freedom. Probably not to the extent that I did the LJ , but hopefully it will make a nice truck to pull a lowboy if I want to haul the LJ ,LTH or C Model to a show. I actually bought this truck about 10 years ago to use, not really knowing what a Freedom was. And I have used it, I’ve had it to every Dam in Western North Carolina on the TVA system, I bought it because I needed a day cab for the rough places. I have talked to a couple people who have Freedoms , I have read some old posts on here about them, If anyone has any information I would appreciate it, I would love to know how many are left. This truck has had the hood replaced with a aftermarket hood and repainted a lighter grey ,my goal is to get it back to the original color and decals. thanks again for all the support.14 points

Got the doors taken apart on the parts H Model, I think I’m going to be ok on all the parts that got washed away, hopefully I can catch a break on weather and start putting some stuff back in my doors,, I’m still finding a few parts on the creek bank, I had the front end off the first Mack I ever purchased back in 1978 , it was a 59 B61 , it’s been long gone but I saved the hood, radiator shroud, shutters, I had them laying on a parts conex/ container. All I found was the bent Radiator shroud. The Dog was unharmed! I cut the bent piece off and hung it in my office.14 points

Hi all,Iv been meaning to do this for a few weeks now but just been too busy. The transformation of our Cruiseliner to how we want it began about 8 weeks ago.We got the use of a machinery shed on a farm through a friend of a friend and work on the truck is going on at a break neck speed. We working every hour we have to spare on the truck.....So what have we done??? So far we have reconditioned the rad and Intercooler, new wheel seals, checked over the brakes, steering, removed a homemade hitch off the rear and remade the frame to original lenth, rebuit the 5th wheel, striped the frame back to bare metal and repainted it along with a thousand other small parts and painted the engine and gearbox and fitted new alternator.....My brother who is retired,my son and myself are exhausted!!!!! We have use of the shed for another few weeks and hope to get the cab painted and chase down a few electrical faults....Heres a few pics... Paul13 points

I got Raleigh Signs to make some decals for the doors on the CH. Not only does it look much better with something on the doors- in my opinion anyway- they cover up the old "Grand Home Furnishings" that you could still read. There's so many scratches under those signs that you'd think somebody took the old lettering off with an axe. I'm making some beef jerky today. Got the idea and recipe from Hippy, 70mackMB. Looking pretty good. It's done, as far as being cooked, I eat a piece of it every time I add wood to the fire, but I want it completely dried- I guess, I've never made jerky before. It's been smoking since 10am, at about 150 degrees. I've got black pepper strips on top, teriyaki on the bottom. Looks like that top rack was cooking much fast than the bottom, so I moved some around. When I tasted the pepper jerky that's all I could taste- black pepper. But the teriyaki was really good.13 points

Well, my initial intent was to replace it with something newer. But, I thought I might just see what I had and make a decision later. After tearing into it, it was just one bearing on the mainshaft that was the big problem. I have it completely apart and washing it up now. Fresh out of the truck. Lids off, back box off. Compound gears. Good shape. Grimey parts Getting mainshaft out. Sleeve was stuck. Clean parts. Mainshaft out. Someone plugged the 1st oil galley, hence bushing worn and bearing junk. Trashed, why it had 1/4" slop in shaft. Dressed the ID of sleeve so it slips over shaft easily now. Main box going for cleaning this week. I have basic bearing list. Everything seems available. Even the dreaded "double taper cone" in the back box. I found a couple new Timken on eBay for under $100? I heard that was the whole deal with rebuilding these old transmissions. All the rest are off the shelf. Will update as I go along in the next few weeks. I had no clue as I dug into this thing but I figured why not? It is already in bad shape, and if I can vastly improve it I might as well before going through the work of replacing it with an Eaton. There is still a lot of work to be done but I think it will work out in the end. I want to thank Matt and Kevin for their assistance in getting it to this point.13 points

Took the forms down today, we are going to let it cure for a week or so, before we start setting the beams. I bought a complete bridge and hauled it in ( it was a NC state road bridge) . The shop is for our business, we occasionally work on customers trucks, but mostly ours that we haul equipment with.and usually there’s an antique project in the corner. Thanks for the compliments , I’ve learned a lot from some of the guys on this site and have personally seen some of their work that’s amazing!13 points

I've been apart of your group for way too long now without a Mack truck, that is until today. I got a 1972 RS700L with a 283 Tipturbine, twin stick 5+2, and a grain box on the back. The owner extended the frame and swapped out the original V8 due to leaking liners and no parts (the door tags are gone so I have no way to confirm this for sure). The 283 engine runs very strong with no blow by and plenty of power! couldn't be happier! Never driven a twin stick so I'm still getting used to that, I just left it in direct the whole drive home but I'd imagine with 750 bushels on the back I'll need em. She drives like a dream! No squeaks or rattles, just smooth even unloaded. I've got lots of questions though! Much more to come!12 points

Made a two hour run up to Foxboro, MA yesterday to the Springbrook show put on by D. Rounds Trucking and G. Greene Construction. It wasn't on any of my lists of up coming shows, but timing wise it worked out with my schedule. It was held at their facilities which are adjacent to each other. Started out leaving the house about 6AM in heavy fog and drizzle, but by afternoon cleared up for a great ride home by 5PM. Lots of local trucks from the greater Boston area and a chance to see G. Greene's collection of restored trucks in a special built garage just to hold them. I'm so envious of that facility. My brother lives about a half hour away from there, so we got to spend the day together along with my nephew for a little while. Truck ran great and had no issues at all with it. It is very loud when you're in it for that long of a trip. It's going to get a muffler at some point. Still amazes me to see it in one piece and restored. other than the exhaust noise, it's so comfortable to drive with that big, roomy L cab. Another greatshow and day with the B7312 points

Greetings - New to the forum and searching around for information I need. I purchased this 1980 Superliner about six months ago. I am preparing to put it to work in the next thirty days. It is powered by a 4MG serial code ATAAC B Model Caterpillar, RTLO18918B, and has TopLoader rears on Neway, 4.17 ratio. I will be doing all of the work to this truck. I am located in Northcentral PA and am a leased owner operator to William A. Spencer Jr. Trucking in Watsontown, PA. I also have a W900A Kenworth that I am restoring and a 79 Scout II that I daily drive. This is solid old Superliner with an aluminum frame. The frame is actually is very good shape, as is the rest of the truck. The bunk is by far the worst part, especially the roof, which is not currently weather tight by any stretch of the imagination. Looking forward to the journey. The truck runs and drives excellent.12 points

Hi, Here's a picture of my R-model Mack. The truck was made in 1988 in Canada and had its sleeper installed at a dealership. As guys said above in the US R-models were mostly used for local operations and construction works. So typically were not eqiupped with sleepers. Canada seems being another story and my truck was a highway tractor. I hope the overall look will help you in your project. Vlad12 points

And a little bit of artwork and pin striping to finish things up. A little nod to the original owner by adding his nickname for the company he leased to, Krajack Tank lines out of New Jersey. Just picked up the truck early this morning. What a great job this woman did gold leafing and striping the truck. Really ads to the restoration! 8DA5CA1F-C14E-4FB8-A6AF-49B40B120A8A.heic 4551CA86-9D86-4C0D-A12F-092CAF158FBC.heic12 points

Thank you for the information, Unfortunately as for the interior of the Freedom is the best part of it , The worst part is the frame, it’s aluminum, the guys we bought it from installed a plate on the outside, and did a good job, but it’s corroded at every cross member, my thought would be unbolt it under the cab , only 4 bolts on each side attach it to the big steel frame , find a air ride cut off and start changing all the brackets, but I’ve been using it this way so that’s later down the road. I may replace the hood, my number one goal is to paint it back the original grey and red stripes, it’s still the original color on the fire wall . The E6 350 runs great, 10 speed trans . It has some slack in the front spring shackles but overall it’s still pretty sound .I saw a old post were one was hit in the front but I don’t think this is the same truck, I guess it was repainted when the hood was replaced, I bought this one in Gallipolis OH . I’ve had my Helper working on it some today.11 points

Just about five months in storage. Brought the toys out of storage and home today. Weather sucked, but due to schedules and needing two drivers, it was the best time. B73 fired right up after about four turns. A little issue with a sticky starter on the B42, then she fired right off. Now to chase a bunch of gremlins on the Caddy and the '40 Ford, mostly from disuse over the last few years of concentrating on finishing up the B73.11 points

Morning, haven’t logged in years here, started out with a new company currently restoring a 1998 Mack rd688 former Mercer county landfill truck in New Jersey, we are about 70% complete with the job with a couple fall backs. Hood was cracked, found an aftermarket hood had it painted and found out it was warped, ordered another one and it’s on its way. Now we’re tackling to do the duel exhaust set up from a single, wait for the hood to come in, paint and then be sent out for fender and fifth wheel. I am much better with social media then forums so I apologize in advance if I post questions in the wrong sections11 points

I changed the oil in the LJ today, the water line was about even with the dipstick, there was a few drops of clear water when I cracked the plug, so I drained it and ran some Diesel through it. New oil and started it up and moved it out of the mud, hopefully I can get it to my house tomorrow or Saturday.11 points

My Grandson and Me had a great time at Mack Trucks 125 celebration at Truist Point Stadium in High Point,NC last night, Many Thanks for all the people who put it together, and all the employees of Mack who showed up with their families .It was a honor to bring the LJ and be a part of it. I think my Grandson or Me must have talked to about all the 5,000 people that showed up, and the hundreds of kids that had their picture taken behind the wheel of the LJ ,, Hopefully great memories! Here are some pictures of the journey and the fun event. Great talking with Stephen Roy , Mack Truck President,Global ( Pictured with us ) And Jonathan Randall ,President of Mack North America and Many more Mack Engineers and employees about some of the years of change between the LJ and the Pioneer.10 points

It’s back on the ground! I drove it a little ( I only had 2 gallons of fuel) too see how deep it turned, everything seems fine for now. I really don’t have time but since I have this thing down this much I’m going to paint it, it’s never been painted, it still has the warning decals on the cab over the battery box . Is faded pretty much.10 points

Well I just showed a shiny one, not common but were made for ashtrays and collectibles. It will be on the Superliner when it is restored. A few photos of it and engine, 1200hp, Ya its turned up a bit or two, Rolls coal with the best of them, staight 6" pipes, and what it does best, hauling the load. That is after turning it down a little to haul a trailer at road speed, it was a Pull Truck and did very well in Wisconsin. Full Rockwell Lockers, 18sp, big clutch, steel flywheel, etc. Was going to the Reno show a few years ago with the trailer.10 points

I haven't been very active on BMT for the last decade. I bought this dump truck a year ago and been working on getting it back up and going. It was originally a Canadian 5th wheel truck converted to a dump truck. Has the E9-500 with 12 speed. 20k steer and mack rears on camelback. Really could use some shop manuals if anyone has extras they would part with.10 points

Good evening forum members. I have a few updates on the B model Restoration I am doing. I cleaned and painted the engine, did a complete tune up, (the engine now runs great) cleaned and reinstalled the original gas tank, (it was bypassed with a jug holding gas). The hydraulic tank for the hoist was empty now it is full and lifts the box. Also have the brakes grabbing but they need more service. First all the mechanical stuff then on to the cosmetics. Have a great New Years!.....Frank10 points

After cleaning and laying out all the stuff I had that didn’t get washed away, ( a lot of the internal door and window hardware, because I had it all on a work bench and they got washed down the creek) I found a complete H Model with good vent windows and all the door hardware still intact, so I purchased the whole truck for parts, My Helper and Me went and hauled it in today, hopefully I can move along with the LJ now.10 points

Well, the big green truck that runs now made it to Charlotte Courthouse. We're waiting for the parade to start, which isn't until around 3 or 3:30. Lots of trucks here. The Keystone Truck and Tractor Museum guys just rolled in with about 8 trucks. I'll have more pictures later, I have nearly non-existent phone signal here.10 points
