In fact there are two diesel shops that specialize in old two strokes since they are still common around here. I think it is music...Love a Mack V8 too...I believe they worked well, particularly in the marine applications for which they were designed.Love all the old pictures and advertisements. You could often hear me say this @ home after being around the 74' GMC 9500 S/A Lowboy tractor or the burner(which had a 353 Jimmy) feeding a burn pit on a clearing job most of the day (@The dinner table @ home) WHAT DID YOU SAY ?? Most of the small boats and Landing Craft were powered by the 71 Series General Motors Diesel ,Diesel Subs, Sub Chasers,Destroyer Escorts,Tugs Patrol Craft were the main propulsion for a lot of these ships and auxiliary generators on aircraft Carriers.They certainly moved a lot of freight.Powered heavy equipment,generators and the list goes on. The 53 series with the higher rpm range is just awful to hear.We had a couple of 671/238 in trucks had 353, 453 & 471 in equipment & a 8V71/318 In a truck . & ya after listening to both series on a daily basis for years i prefer a 71 . less of a squeal than the 53 series . 1 Quote You Cant Fix Stupid.
