Chicago R models

Recommended Posts

I think BCR57 told me Ozinga bought a batch of trucks that another company didn't take and that was the reason for the white ones.

They have a mix of everything now that they've bought or tried to buy everybody in northern Illinois. Was dodging a bunch of those

clowns yesterday. They must have the drivers wound tight over there cuz they drive like idiots!

Thought No. 1 That's a BIG pour!

No. 2 Surprised with all that water it isn't more muddy. Must have an excellent subbase and base.

It's sitting on a pretty good base. Rock Solid came in and did all the soil stabilization. They stayed a day or two ahead of us, then we came

in and laid down 60,000 tons of CA-6 over that. Ozinga set up a batch plant just up the road for this pour. They are doing it in sections. Scurto

is doing the concrete work. After they pour the Scurto guys are out there riding on the machines that do the concrete finishing, about 4 or 5

at a time smoothing out the concrete. Interesting to watch. I bet between the gravel & concrete the floor is two feet thick.

Just a few pictures from my travels today. I took a couple pictures of a towing companies yard that is right at Wolf Rd & 58

in Des Plaines. I've noticed there is a black R-model tow truck and behind it a Ford 9000 with a bunk on it. I've seen them sitting

back there for years. Also saw a white R-model sitting on 31 in Mchenry, the whole passenger side fender is blown off behind

the headlight. Looks like the Super Mix conveyor didn't want concrete all over his windshield, had it tarped off pretty good!

Hard to believe that truck started out in life as a plain Jane, spoke wheeled,Dan Lodesky fleet unit. I don't know the year of it,but had heard it was the first 300 in Dan's fleet. Seems to me it was a '74 or '75. It has been updated extensively.

IF YOU BOUGHT IT, A TRUCK BROUGHT IT..AND WHEN YOU'RE DONE WITH IT, A TRUCK WILL HAUL IT AWAY!!! Big John Trimble,WRVA
