  1. Try this test and see what happens, warm up the engine and with the maxi brakes applied snap the throttle to full open, you should see a nice puff of black smoke come out the stack, then with the brakes released do it again, now there should be little to no black smoke. If you dont get that black smoke with the brakes applied I would look for a fuel restriction or maybe a pin hole leak in one of your fuel lines.I will take a look at mine and see how its hooked up,will check in here later.
  2. I have the same plow truck from nyc same year same engine same tranny,I could pull a house down with this truck it has amazing power for a 270 hp,pulls the same empty or loaded it just goes and its not turned up at all as far as i know..
  3. The average anual pay for an over the road truck driver is 50,000,is that right?
  4. Its well worth the money to have this done at a reputable sping shop!do both sides with new springs, tunion bushings and rubber isloaters..
  5. Nice the interior looks mint, good luck with it.
  6. As far as I know the five and six speed were designed to be used with a maxi torque engine, never ever heard of anyone trying to split the upper gears in a six speed, the low hole is just that,a low low range.i mean how fast can the truck even go in fifth low,to go from fourth direct to fifth low would be impossible in my opinion..
  7. if the collars are sticking don't hit the adj nut with a hammer like a lot of guys instead grab the collar with a pair of vice grips and twist side to side while puilling up also clean it up good with a wire brush and air pressure..
  8. This might sound funny but on a truck that old check the floor boards for rust and weakness make sure the brake pedal mount and floor boards don't move when brake is applied, you would be surprised what a difference it will make..good luck
  9. I see a lot of trucks with the big convex mirror mounted in front of the cab hood, ugly as hell but serves a good purpose, thinking about mounting a smaller convex on my bumper guide pole.
  10. Yes they are a lot of us are using the old grandfathered down state permits, these are the permits that will not renew unless we meet the new requirements and convert to tri axles. No way in hell am I going to let them take my grandfathered permit away!
  11. For a tri axle with a type two permit its 79000,not sure about a quad axle..
  12. Yup just got an e mail from the nysdot saying just that.but 3 axle trucks are still under the gun, they must add a fourth axle to renew there type two permits, there are so many ten wheelers coming out of the asphalt plants its crazy to think there going to comply with this..stay tunned
  13. Nice pictures, anyone know what the weight laws are there since the trucks a all ten wheel, just curious.
  14. truck-lite.com should have something, I know they have a three post that you could just leave one post off if you like.
  15. Smoke tickets in NY are a real pain in the butt, dec makes you get the truck re inspected and proof that the problem was fixed plus you pay a nice fine after a day in court.
  16. Somebody screwed up big time when they installed that one, that sucks big time..
  17. AS long as the guys in the orange coveralls don't show up and start crawling around under your truck with those little high beam flash lights you should get off pretty easy, and nice looking truck by the way..good luck
  18. Nice, your going to be pleasantly surprised with a much better ride and even quieter cab.
  19. What does it say on the rears if there original, you gotta drive it before you buy right?
  20. Like stated above just tap on one of the rails, be careful shifting, don't pull the shifter diagonally, move it straight back or forward and straight across..
  21. Just make sure its the tranny and not the one of the rears, sometimes its very hard to diagnose..good luck
