  1. Jim you're correct,kudos to both of these guys for preserving these Mack-nificent pieces of history most of us would only have been able to read about in a book. It takes a lot of " resources" to save such treasures.If not for these guys (& a few more),much of this stuff would be Chinese rebar. Al

  6. I remember that truck from a few years ago. I believe the owners name was Lee Hetterly from Wash. state. A beauty for sure! Al
  7. I always thought tney did that because of stripped out fasteners,Mike? Guess I never took a real good look at it,but figured it might be the reason. Have seen a couple of R's with upside down F model grilles in them. Now that really looks hideous. Al

  11. I hear ya,Vlad! Our old in-house body shop,did the grafting of the DMM headlight panels to the RD hood. Thought they did a good job also. The truck did have some frame issues after a while,and was parked. Now with OZINGA buying our ready mix division out,who knows where it ended up? Al
  12. Vlad, I had posted a pic in the Chicago R model thread of an RD that my employer had custom built for them,by Marmon-Herrington. It was set up very similar to your truck. Meyer Material Co. was owned by the Marmon Group at one time and they worked together on this project. The M-H Co. has been around for a long time converting vehicles to all wheel drive.   13. Sorry to hear that,Matt. Always a tough thing to deal with. I still see people that don't move over (should be for everyone,not just police/emergency situations). I will never figure out why the world has to be in such a hurry,that we can't look out for others. I understand situations where things are not well illuminated, but a guy with his strobes going- no excuse! Al
  14. I know of a couple of B's that were converted to P/S using an R model box. They also had to have the mounting plate fabricated and had to use the R model steering column & shaft (slip yoke),as the original shaft in a B-61 was solid. It took some engineering, but worked well from what I was told. Al

  16. On the lighter side.If VW did buy MACK, they could be re-engineered to run great and smoke again............until caught! Al
  17. I would start at the bus bar on the firewall (under the hood,below the drivers windshield). The terminals get a little crusty when the vehicle is unused for any length of time. Get out your test light and start poking around on the terminals. A good cleaning(small wire brush - WITH THE POWER DISONNECTED!)and then reconnect the terminals,will often be the culprit. If not,the cleaning should be done anyway and won't be chalked up as wasted time. I know of one fleet locally that would spray the bus bars of brand new trucks with non-metallic high-tac gasket spray as a protectant to prevent future corrosion. The same should be done with the terminal strips on each side of the grille opening that provide power to the lights. If you don't have the schematic handy,do one terminal at a time so you don't end up with mismatched wiring. Good luck,and let us know if it worked for you.   19. My '88 R's engine won't idle unless the throttle is pulled out. Push it back in,and it stops. It has an AMBAC pump on it. Governor issue? Thanks in advance (no pun intended). Al
  20. Again,nice save steal! And don't forget to use the "foul weather intake" if you by chance get caught in the rain. Your oil bath air cleaner will turn into a large milkshake if you don't! And yes,I am speaking from experience! Al
