Oops sorry this one slipped through the cracks. I'd love to see some pictures of the truck and engine! There isn't all that much info out there about Mack gassers. Is it a flathead of overhead valve?

Heres your chance to own a rare one: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/986690686122475 Marmon made some cool looking cabovers but there isn't much Info out there about em. I wonder if they had an air ride cab like the Mack, that would add whole new level of cool! Riding on the doghouse in our Mh was the coolest thing as a kid! You could feel everything the engine was doing and wow that E6 would feel like an earthquake when hauling 90,000!

I thought it was the same paint scheme as this other marketplace post I found but no. Looks about the same wheelbase though and the ad says it was a house mover at one time. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/429952142891241

He would have to use a Dt466 or 7.3/6.9 V8 if he wanted to diesel swap it. Those are the "rules" lol We don't get an option to buy ethanol free gas at our only station where I live and I don't even know what the ethanol percentage is. I have to rebuild every carb I own about every year though so there is definitely some in there.

UAW 'extremely disappointed' with Volvo's Mexico plant decision
BOBWhite replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Yeah I guess it makes sense, Volvo's probably paying more to manufacture here than than they are in there own country. The late 90s and early 00s Volvos had really great interior build quality for that time (everything else not so much). I don't know what they're like now but I'm sure they'll go down in quality like everything else that shifted production to Mexico. The global trend is building crap and we are all buying it I wish we could have someone like Ross Perot running today, although who knows what they'd indite him with for trying. -
Nice I hope she went to a good owner!

Lol I remember being that kids height and driving truck, couldn't push in the clutch to shift so learned to drive without it.

UAW 'extremely disappointed' with Volvo's Mexico plant decision
BOBWhite replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Just goes to show they never cared about the workers here in America, or anywhere else for that matter. -
Odd question but is the top tank of the radiator cast iron like an old tractor or is it just a sheet metal grill? If that's cast Iron it would make a great Mack Shop heater! If I could find one

Since we're on the topic of fuel something else came to my mind about the carburetors. I don't know if your 401 has the same brand or model as my 345's (I think it was a holly) carb but I remember my dad telling me to NEVER backfire it, or at least try your best not too. Anytime it would backfire it would screw up the metering rods (I think that's what there called) and the whole carb would have to come off and be rebuilt. I never had it happen to me but something that always reminds me of my dad. As for the old gas, I collect old Hit N Miss engines that love to run on the stuff! Old air-cooled mowers and such run fine too once they get hot enough.

You could even drop a few MPG by going with a higher rear gear! Your working each of those 12 Liters pretty hard even if your only hauling 70,000lbs! 10 gears just isn't very much to play with, and like Geoff said getting out of the mud loaded is a big thing to consider. I would get some sort of fuel flow meter to see what RPM that motor wants to be at and do your ratio calculations off that.
-
Is the motor stock? If the stock restrictor manifold is still on that's what's holding your MPG back the most. Here is a great post describing the whole process of Souping up one of these motors: I think some people on here have done re-gears on Mack axles but I'm not sure the on process (if you have Mack axles).

I know google has messed up a lot of in-site searches. Its best to search for topics like this: Someone on here should be able to answer your other two questions

This topic seems to have the best explanation:

Oh Yeah, The Truck! I don't remember asking if it has airbrakes but seeing the horn made me wonder. All the Loadstars I've been around have juice brakes and since IH is gone you can't easily find rebuild kits.

I think I prefer electric over vacuum but I haven't put on serious miles with either. With vacuum it seems the shifting delay is different every day with the changing atmospheric conditions. Although with electric you have to crawl underneath every year and fix the mouse chewed wires. Whatever you want to put up with I guess.

I can't get over how well proportioned everything thing is on that Mack. It doesn't really look like it would be the worlds largest Mack until you see the equipment around it. The Mack made the good sized front loader at the end look like a toy! That V16 Detroit has a displacement of 2,384ci or almost 40 liters! Seeing this truck is definitely on my bucket list!

Cummins introduces "B6.7 Octane" Gasoline Engines
BOBWhite replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
The hurricane 6 is I think what it's called. Makes a lot of power but has some serious flaws from what I've heard. I wonder if the Cummins will have direct gasoline injection with it being turbocharged and all. Direct injection wouldn't leave much room for a spark plug but how will it run much boost without knocking? I have my doubts about it being in pickups but with upcoming emissions maybe it will become a big thing. -
That looks good! If its not a secret what's all in it? We grow a lot of peppers but something about the soil or the hard water makes them unbearably hot.
-
My soil is the same red but a couple of tons of manure fixed it up, burning helps too. I got chewed out by my new neighbors for burning this year but hopefully some fresh tomatoes and cucumbers will keep them happy till next years burn.
-
Well its been another year. Went to a very foggy sunrise service but when the sun came out and cleared the fog it was beautiful, wish I had a good enough camera to capture it! Then I finally got the garden plowed with the cub. Hope everyone else had a good easter
