Been so long I can't remember oil pressures or anything like that, but ran a PT270 in a 1978 International S-Line tandem dump truck for many years. I do remember it pulled good for what it was. All the other dump trucks I worked with at that time had small International or Cat 3208 engines and that 270 was a powerhouse compared to them. But it was heavy. Get that truck into soft sand with it's wide base steers and the rear end was hopping where the other little motors would keep going. Other thing I remember about it, was a lot of people had a really hard time driving it, but I was used to it. The throttle would really "float" in it. You let off to shift and the RPM would float before it came down.

John Deere Introduces New Easy Change 30-Second Oil Change System
Bullheaded replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
I got a tractor from my friend who said it was a Bolen's, but turns out it is a 1982 MTD 824 Classic. Some day I want to paint it back to original. I found a couple old adds. It's retired now, but it served me well for a few years mowing 2 acres of the yard. But I would have to refuel it's 4 gallon tank to finish and the new Kubota B2620 diesel will do it 13 times on 4 gallons, LOL -
I hate these new emission motors too. So much so they caused me to retire from trucking. But I gotta say, there are a lot of deleted ISX Cummins and MP10 Mack's around here, deleted by one of the biggest know delete companies that advertises in all the truck books and papers.......and just about every one of them has blown up. Same with one of the big mines up north. Have a fleet of Star 6900XD's with DD16 600's. They deleted them after all the down time in the severe cold and winter storms they operate in. Then every single one of them blew up. They spent over $300,000 putting SCR and DPF's back on.

That's what I mean. Don't take me wrong....I am not down playing the virus. It is a serious thing for many people. But I can also see why people are getting p'd off and not taking it seriously......because the way both our governments are handling things is making it look like a complete farce. It's almost like they are trying to make the conspiracy theories make sense, LOL Just like the stores where mom and pop close and Walmart stays open as normal.........you can't drive across the border but you are more than welcome to fly in from anywhere in the world. And you better not get caught visiting your relatives for Christmas, but then my gov announces they are giving a free pass for more immigrants to enter the country with no testing. So it's no wonder people get angry and sick of hearing all the rules, when none of the rules are applied equally. Anyway, sorry for that rant, just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was down playing you going through the virus. And I am very glad you and your wife got through it and your kids didn't get it.

I'm not here to say anything about the virus, but the way they are handling it is a complete farce. Put small family businesses bankrupt because they have to lockdown and close.....but billion dollar Walmart....no problem, you can have hundreds of people in your store. What sense does that make????? Well, I know what sense that makes, but I won't get in to my conspiracy theories, LOL

Wow, glad to to hear you are all good now. That's exactly how I think about this virus. I think if you are healthy and have a good immune system it is no big deal. It's those that have problems or a bad immune system that have to really worry. Crappy way to spend your holiday though. That's gotta suck having no sense of taste or smell. Kids look like they are having fun. That's awesome...get them started young. They will go places! So refreshing to see kids doing like most of us older guys did.....having fun doing something that will better them. Not sitting around playing video games.

Is this an SX?

I hope someone saves that!! -
If you had to repower, I'd stay International. Get an 07 F550 like mine and put the 6.0 Powerstroke and F550 running gear in it. Ya, I know.......6.0 But so far this one I have hasn't blown up again after being built and studded.

I do James, but I'm not home and I'll have to find them. Equipment Express is one of the heavy haulers that was using them on a wind turbine project I worked on. They were using them to pull the loads up the 16% grades in the mountains we were in. The truck and trailers had all the wheels chained in the winter. Yes they were bought used and repurposed. The ones that were on that job were Cat powered. But I have seen some with V12 Detroits at the Ritchie Bros auction in Bolton (Toronto.) And they went for not overly bad prices.

Wish I could find a pic I had of it. Because nothing looked out place with the old R hood on it.

Here's how I'm spending mine.....plowing up in the mine. Trying to find all the roads and vent raises and stuff that I have no idea where they are, LOL

I don't think so? I don't remember him modifying anything and it looked normal when he was done?

I really want one now....700 h.p. C18 Cat. So many heavy haulers around here have bought the old army surplus ones.

Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you all have a better new year.
-
Unfortunately no. He sold the truck a few years ago. But he did take the RD sloped hood off and put a classic R hood on it.
-
I hope he will be back too. I enjoyed talking to him. The news ain't the same without him.
-
Yes. Had a friend that did just that. Wanted his RD to look like an older R model.

How can I hit the like button 10 tens! That is sweet. Is the front tire low or is it where he is parked? -
Not hard to see why when both our governments are trying their hardest to screw over the working man while the rest get a free ride.

Just an observation. I am also a member of a few compact tractor forums, as that is my other hobby. Even before this covid came to be, I noticed that as soon as the economy took a downturn, everyone on those tractor forums went on attack mode. Anytime someone new to tractors would ask a valid question due to them not knowing tractors, members would jump on them like they were an idiot and go into full attack mode, instead of being helpful. I even quit posting just because it was getting to the point that every response other people on the forums was getting was some cocky ignorant remark. I also noticed another cycle, that every year around Christmas, members got to their worst attitudes. Is it just a financial/economy stress causing people to go off the deep end??
