  1. condensation. If your vent is plugged the water will stay. Even if the vent is working if you live in a place with big temp swings it will happen.
  2. I figured an angle gate was so the gate did not get as close to the ground when raising the box and so when the box was down Gravity helped keep the door tight to the box? Never thought about a pup trailer behind you...
  3. not that I have heard of. there was a early version of the 6 speed that had direct and high on the 2nd stick. it only had one reverse gear as well. they are hard to find
  4. My rs700l has no helper springs. I have to grab the dog and lean back as far as I can to get the hood moving. Same when lowering have to go slow and give it a jerk right before it touches down so it don't slam it down on the cowl.
  5. Mack's early RD had a standard R model hood. Mack did a update to the RD line up in the early 90's. these later RD macks had a sloped hood. both were considered "R" models but the hoods were way different. You have the better looking of the two in my opinion
  6. Regarding the glad hand.....most trucks I tried to back fill have a check valve that will not allow back filling. Best way to fill a truck with air is right to the wet tank. That way it fills both air brake systems.
  7. I fire them up and let them idle until I leave the yard. My thought is Cold oil needs to thin out to better get into all the parts of the motor. I always wondered why some generators would go to 2100 rpm high idle right from a cold start. That can't be good on bearings
  8. personally I dislike the looks of the euro trucks. they don't look like the trucks I saw as a kid and they all share similar styling. I like the big hoods and bunks of the 80's and 90's. I don't think I would enjoy driving a box with a speed limiter or 55MPH! but that's just me LOL Im sure they have more advanced engineering than U.S Truck Mfg but I still like the somewhat simplicity of the few U.S brands. The U.S has very little hold on much anything anymore and This seams like another slip in the knot towards U.S truck brands being all but forgotten.
  9. Not bad for a old natural aspirated diesel.
  10. It must haul something heavy for having 4 axels is such a short wheel base?
  11. How is the old dog doing....looks like you have been busy with some truck shows?
  12. those are great looking Macks. I wish we still had these kinds of Macks over here.
  13. Congrats.....that's quite an accomplishment !
  14. Sounds good Joe. I head down sat morning should be there about 9 am and will be staying the night. I just talked to the guys and they got it set up pretty good. Dirt is there and we have indoor and out door areas to work in in case the weather is not good. I think we will have a good mix of show trucks , dump trucks and construction equipment http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=8723&page=2
  15. Reminder...the R/C truck and construction show is this weekend And just in time , here is a new addition to my fleet
  16. Your only breaking the law IF you get cought. Drive the truck and pull over when tired. That's what I did for the 13 years I did otr. I think they should go back to 10 on 8 off and have something like a mandatory 3 day home period after 2 weeks out..but that's just me.
  17. Looks like a western grill on a standard r model?
  18. I have on... It looks good for what was out there when I bought it...
  19. Thanks to all that served. I consider this one of the most important Days in the Year. I did not Serve in the military but Have always flown the flag in front of my house and give the utmost respect to my country and those that have served. I Did a trip into Galena IL this weekend and the many little towns across Rt20 in northern IL had flags on both sides as you passed thru. Saw many Grave yards decorated with flags. Today I was happy to see a boy scout troop decorating the local cemetery.
  20. mack 8 speed....just like the mack 7 they suck!.... very slow low gears and very fast over drive but its basicly a 5 speed except you pretty much have to do a range change with a load on... they were speced with real slow rears 4.42-5.73 were common. its kinda like a 5 speed but your first 3 gears are very slow and you don't always use them when empty. most people drive them by starting in the low side/2rd hole. then flip the switch into Hi and back into 1st hole. I really disliked them as you almost always had to start in the low side with a load on and flip the switch to get back into hi and then do your normal 1-2-3-4-5 but you still were doing a best of 65MPH at the end kida pointless if you ask me .IMO a old 6 speed is way better. If you wanted more gears a 12 over drive would have been the better trans because of the ease of shifting. That's my point of view !.
  21. Looks like a early 300 hp or possible a 350 in that dmm...The engine laying on its side withthetransmission connected looks like it's of the same engine family 285,300 etc..... I can't clearly see the transmission sticker but it looks like a air shift 6 speed ?
  22. I like the 12 speed for 3 reasons You can drive it like a 5 speed when empty You can drive it like a 5 speed but have the option to split the gear when you need to get a run at a hill You have 5 reverse gears 13 speeds are nice. But I would rather have a 12 speed behind a Mack
  23. I plan to be there sat around 9-10 am....stay for half the day and head home...unless its a good show, then I may stay the night at a local hotel.
  24. Thought I would share this for those that might be interested. I'm going with 3 or 4 trucks... If anyone is interested in going let me know.
  25. My understanding was the taller hoods allowed for larger radiators and more air flow thru the hood and under the cab to help with cooling of big power. The longer hoods allowed for big block cat and cummings. Not to mention front mount intercooling becoming more popular.
