sounds pretty cool got any pics?? a few years back I saw 2 single axel R models on a flat be heading towards Toronto Canada. I remember then having fiberglass bodywork but I was going the wrong way to look close at them.

Had the same problem with my first B. The more I took it apart the more problems I found due to rust.(mostly around the trunion aera) Double frames are great for the dirt but if they used salt in the aera that the old truck lived its almost cirtan that it will have spread the rails somewhere? check the window aeras and rear cab wall for rust

I agree larry! I like the looks of that hood much better than the visions. The Vision hoods look like a pole fell on the top and put a crease in the chrome.LOL cant wait to see some of those trucks on the road or in the dirt Trent

Hello Dave glad you found your way over here I think I saw some pics of the RL on the ATHS board? anyways I belive the first R seires cabs stayed the same from ther introduction to around 1972-73. The early style cab that you have has a shorter distance from the rear wall to the cowl aera. I am guessing yours is the original cab from the factory and has a metal dash? you will be able to find some early style cabs in junk yards or on parted out trucks. Possible on ebay also? The later style cabs have the rear wall extended back a few inches and will have the updated interior with leather like covered dash. these later style cabs may not bolt directly to your truck as the rear cab mount may be a few inches off. I have run into a few problems getting "R" model parts for my 78 mack. and I dont think any of the early cab "R" stuff is being made or stocked by mack so you will have to sorce the parts from collectors. I think its dependant on the weight rating most of the 34K camalback tandem rear axels I have seen have the 5 spoke daytons. I have seen the 6 spoke and they were on heavy camelback tandem axels. I have seen some roll offs and 6 wheelers with the 6 spoke

I would love to test drive that 405HP Maxidyne!!!! I wonder if a air shift 6 speed could be used behind it?

thats very cool! 220 miles on the rails where do you go to run it that far? When I was a kid I went out to the railway museum in Union IL with the family. It was a great day riding trians all day but it was a short haul, about a mile each way. I would love to "hit the rails" for a long trip on a departed short line. Trent

your frame is pretty short for a sleeper and a 5th wheel. maybee you could build sleeping quarters in the trailer and keep the truck stock? I want to adda 60" sleeper to my truck but may have the same issues with the trailer hitting the rear wall??? if the 5th wheel is to far foward?

Here is the trailer that I used to move my first load . She pulls pretty good for an old truck. I moved the rubber tire loader seen in the pic from our sand/rock camp just up the road about 5 miles or so. I figure loaded,I was around 70-80k gross weight. I was suprised how good that little 285HP did pulling the loader away from a full stop. Trent

The price of parts are hard to argue. however I would want to know why it took 22-24hrs to do the job?(if at or around $100 per hr) If they could give a good reason that it took so long you have no choice to pay the bill. I would want to speak with the mech and service guy to see why it took 3 days to complete the job? you could ask to see what the book says for the AVG time to pull a head and install a head. I would guess 6hrs to pull and 6hrs to replace but thats at my slow speed.

there is a used truck parts yard in souther WI on I94 near Konosha (spelling?) Erickson truck parts is the place if I remember. they had 5 Chicago FD CFs out back give them a call oh, and welcome to the message board Trent
