  1. was searching thry ebay today and found this RS http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1978-Mack-D...1QQcmdZViewItem
  2. looking good scott. that 350 will be tons of fun in that truck. looks like your work is PAYING off... no pun intended Thanks for the pics Trent
  3. Can you say, lucky? worst place to get hit and he walked away! Did the truck roll and slide into the pole? or tip over?? whats the rest of the story? Glad he is ok!
  4. I would love to see that instructors look when you show up in the A model. LOL. I feel the same way about truck safety, If its, safe to operate, road worthy and can stop like it was designed, I see no issues with simple fixes. Sadly I have seen (and driven)a few trucks with problems that should have been addressed yesterday. I dont like suprises on the road that could danger me or others.
  5. I wish the Chrome shops would buy a few parts and display them so that Drivers can dress them up on there spare time. I have been to a few chrome shops to look around and there are never any chrome parts for macks. If you are lucky, you will find those cheep bulldog mudflap weights and thats it. LOL
  6. I am out in CT once a year near Lime rock Raceway and every year I see a few old macks running the road. Last year I saw 2 low boy trucks go by. a B model and a possible a L model loaded with new cat machines. IT was pretty cool to watch them both turn the corner in front of me wile at a stop light. Later that week I saw a single axel dump near Torrington on state Rt 7? I have some pics of that truck I think it was green or dark green?? Near the old coal mine museum or whatever they call it there is a B81 tandem axel with a big rock bed. Always love the east coast for them old Macks. Here In Chicago there are a few companys that use B models for site work/water trucks etc... Trent
  7. I think Mack bought brockway in the late 50s around 57-58?? and sold them or closed them in 1976-77. I have never driven one but I do remember seeing a few as a kid. last one I saw was around 2 years ago still working in the west point NY aera. Trent
  8. I went through Gulfway for my R model and I think I pay around $250 a year?? Havent checked my rate sence I applied back in febuary/March. but I remember it was dirt cheep as I have it inshured for only 4K. Trent
  9. I thought the gold dogs were on macks equiped with all mack components?
  10. Not a stupid question Andy LOL I think the studs or rivet like things you see are for the factory marker light placement. do these studs have a hole in the middle with threads inside them(or broken off screws!)? My B model had these as well but from them getting old and rusty I found that the screws would break off in them. I ended up removing them and using a nut with a washer. you need two people when removing or installing but its not a big hastle I can barley get my hands behind the metal above the windows for the middle 3 markers. but it can be done with the help of a few baindaids. Trent
  11. Looking good Rick. keep us updated with those pics of the progress. What mack engine is that? looks like a newer one?
  12. From the album: performance counts

my simple winter front made from some leather and snap buttons
  13. Thats right up my alley!! love all that black smoke!!!LOL I would like to attend that some time just for fun. I dont think my 6 speed would do that good on that hill with heavy loaded doubles but it still would be fun smoking up that hill to the finish line:SMOKIE-LFT:
  14. sounds pretty cool got any pics?? a few years back I saw 2 single axel R models on a flat be heading towards Toronto Canada. I remember then having fiberglass bodywork but I was going the wrong way to look close at them.

  18. Had the same problem with my first B. The more I took it apart the more problems I found due to rust.(mostly around the trunion aera) Double frames are great for the dirt but if they used salt in the aera that the old truck lived its almost cirtan that it will have spread the rails somewhere? check the window aeras and rear cab wall for rust
  19. I agree larry! I like the looks of that hood much better than the visions. The Vision hoods look like a pole fell on the top and put a crease in the chrome.LOL cant wait to see some of those trucks on the road or in the dirt Trent
  20. Hello Dave glad you found your way over here I think I saw some pics of the RL on the ATHS board? anyways I belive the first R seires cabs stayed the same from ther introduction to around 1972-73. The early style cab that you have has a shorter distance from the rear wall to the cowl aera. I am guessing yours is the original cab from the factory and has a metal dash? you will be able to find some early style cabs in junk yards or on parted out trucks. Possible on ebay also? The later style cabs have the rear wall extended back a few inches and will have the updated interior with leather like covered dash. these later style cabs may not bolt directly to your truck as the rear cab mount may be a few inches off. I have run into a few problems getting "R" model parts for my 78 mack. and I dont think any of the early cab "R" stuff is being made or stocked by mack so you will have to sorce the parts from collectors. Trent
  21. I think its dependant on the weight rating most of the 34K camalback tandem rear axels I have seen have the 5 spoke daytons. I have seen the 6 spoke and they were on heavy camelback tandem axels. I have seen some roll offs and 6 wheelers with the 6 spoke
  22. I would love to test drive that 405HP Maxidyne!!!! I wonder if a air shift 6 speed could be used behind it?
