  1. Great looking rig. Im shure it will be a show stopper one day??what is the reason that some log trucks carried the unloaded trailer on the rear of the tractor? was it to save the tires,or help with traction?? always wondered
  2. Nothing fancy but thought I would show off my fabed up bared 5th wheel. I installed the Bar over the weekend with the help of a good weilder friend. The th wheel is a Fontane no slack intended for "standard" freight hauling. Its not a high mount wheel so I had to make a few adjustments to get the tube to fit under the wheel and still allow clearance for the king pin to pass over. We got plenty of a good contact surface/weld under the wheel and on the top plate, She wont budge.
  3. I think that the newer trucks can and will last longer (milage wise)because the development and engineering that goes into the drive train allows the componets to last longer. Macks were known for reliability in the off road use where most trucks would fall apart. with todays trucks I see big lack of styling but the major componets seem to hold up for the most part. Dont get me wrong the plastic junk they use on trucks today looks like crap but it wont rust. In my opinion Trucks of today are made for disposal after they wear out so In that case I dont see them lasting as long in the public eye. New rigs also dont have that magic that the old trucks have. I know some diffrent tricks on my old macks that make them perform, drive better. With the new trucks I dont find these tricks that make me smile. just my .02
  4. Volvo never really got to mess around with R/RD etc...models, only thing I can think of that volvo did was ending the production of Rs in vavor of the new granite, vision,CH models etc... The only R models I did not like were the ones euiped with low RPM engines. they never seamed to pull as well?? but they are all Damm tuff trucks so I hope your back is healthy LOL Trent
  5. I saw that in his sales pitch LOL. I did not think it was used in convoy as I think you said it was wrecked back in 88?. Dan,any chance you can convince the owner of the wrecked convoy rig to sell it? I know we could find a good home for it.
  6. I think the price is a little high. Just my opinion. I have no clue what those trailers cost so it may be a fair price and I just dont know?? I got lucky when I found My RS as it was a over the road truck its whole life and was in great shape when I found it. I got it for 3k and drove it 500 miles to my house with no dramas. Also check Truckpaper.com for some old macks. I know there are 3 or 4 long hood R models on there right now. Trent
  7. I have listen to ,Drive By Truckers on the radio. good band im my opinion
  8. if she can still pull the hills you should be fine. GA has some good country roads with steep hills. I have seen many old macks working down there so I dont see why it wont make you some $$$. You could use it as a on site truck and skip out on the cost of plates ?? I think some of the 6 wheelers use tri axels down there also???
  9. I saw the e-bay listing last week. I think it was being sold out of the Chicago aera. If you can get anyinfo about the person selling it I could go look at it and give you some more insite on the condition. just an offer Trent
  10. was searching thry ebay today and found this RS http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1978-Mack-D...1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. looking good scott. that 350 will be tons of fun in that truck. looks like your work is PAYING off... no pun intended Thanks for the pics Trent
  12. Can you say, lucky? worst place to get hit and he walked away! Did the truck roll and slide into the pole? or tip over?? whats the rest of the story? Glad he is ok!
  13. I would love to see that instructors look when you show up in the A model. LOL. I feel the same way about truck safety, If its, safe to operate, road worthy and can stop like it was designed, I see no issues with simple fixes. Sadly I have seen (and driven)a few trucks with problems that should have been addressed yesterday. I dont like suprises on the road that could danger me or others.
  14. I wish the Chrome shops would buy a few parts and display them so that Drivers can dress them up on there spare time. I have been to a few chrome shops to look around and there are never any chrome parts for macks. If you are lucky, you will find those cheep bulldog mudflap weights and thats it. LOL
  15. I am out in CT once a year near Lime rock Raceway and every year I see a few old macks running the road. Last year I saw 2 low boy trucks go by. a B model and a possible a L model loaded with new cat machines. IT was pretty cool to watch them both turn the corner in front of me wile at a stop light. Later that week I saw a single axel dump near Torrington on state Rt 7? I have some pics of that truck I think it was green or dark green?? Near the old coal mine museum or whatever they call it there is a B81 tandem axel with a big rock bed. Always love the east coast for them old Macks. Here In Chicago there are a few companys that use B models for site work/water trucks etc... Trent
  16. I think Mack bought brockway in the late 50s around 57-58?? and sold them or closed them in 1976-77. I have never driven one but I do remember seeing a few as a kid. last one I saw was around 2 years ago still working in the west point NY aera. Trent
  17. I went through Gulfway for my R model and I think I pay around $250 a year?? Havent checked my rate sence I applied back in febuary/March. but I remember it was dirt cheep as I have it inshured for only 4K. Trent
  18. I thought the gold dogs were on macks equiped with all mack components?
  19. Not a stupid question Andy LOL I think the studs or rivet like things you see are for the factory marker light placement. do these studs have a hole in the middle with threads inside them(or broken off screws!)? My B model had these as well but from them getting old and rusty I found that the screws would break off in them. I ended up removing them and using a nut with a washer. you need two people when removing or installing but its not a big hastle I can barley get my hands behind the metal above the windows for the middle 3 markers. but it can be done with the help of a few baindaids. Trent
  20. Looking good Rick. keep us updated with those pics of the progress. What mack engine is that? looks like a newer one?

  22. Thats right up my alley!! love all that black smoke!!!LOL I would like to attend that some time just for fun. I dont think my 6 speed would do that good on that hill with heavy loaded doubles but it still would be fun smoking up that hill to the finish line:SMOKIE-LFT:
  23. sounds pretty cool got any pics?? a few years back I saw 2 single axel R models on a flat be heading towards Toronto Canada. I remember then having fiberglass bodywork but I was going the wrong way to look close at them.
