  2. Cummins was already using the QSK95 for power stations, so they probably figured for not much more cost they could offer it in locomotives. Increases their market.
  3. I've never seen one either. If you really really wanted to do it, I guess you could cut away at the firewall to make room. It would be a ton of work. Be far easier to slide the cab back 12 inches and put an R700 or superliner bonnet on it.

  5. Local grain cooperative CBH ordered 22 Cummins-powered locomotives a few years back. They were powered by QSK60 and QSK78's but I haven't heard how they have been performing.

  7. This is an interesting subject. The guy who reapaired my roof overlapped the metal by about 1/4 inch. He is trade qualified, not just a back yarder. I wonder why he did that and not butt weld it?
  8. Big fleets around here buy freightliners for 2 reasons. They're cheap, and they're cheap. They keep them for 5 years and trade them on some more cheap ones. I drove an Argosy once. It was only 12 months old but all the cupboard doors were broke and kept opening up.
  9. I had rust holes under the lights on the roof. There is also a hole where the wire goes through which might help if it were sealed a bit. Mine had been leaking water for years it seems. My roof lining is stuffed, lots of the cardboard has disintegrated.

  13. So at 1800rpm with the 13sp and your rears you will get 55mph. Terry was spot on.
  14. If your 13sp has a top gear ratio of .73 then I would have a rough guess you could get 100km/h or 60mph at 2050rpm. Give or take 50rpm.
  15. What to use in the rain channel on the roof? I've got some holes and some rust I need to repair then put something back on it as per factory.
  16. My mate has a truck with the same cracks. I haven't seen anyone repair that type of crack. But to weld a new section shouldn't be too difficult. Nake sure you get someone who knows what he's doing.
  17. I read on here some guys reckon to wet the windscreen as sometimes the wiper blade can grip the glass a bit too much. I had good results with mine by using a lube (wd 40 type) in the supply line.
  18. Try jacking up a set of duals and rotating them. Could be out of round tyres, or tyres not on the bead properly. Had this happen on a ute but could in therory do the same in a truck.
  19. First of all, I just wanna say it's a great thing your doing for your grandmother, and for preservation of another old Mack. But to say it was meant to be, is implying some sort of fate. And that would be selling yourself a bit short. You've made a conscious decision to do a good deed for your grandmother and to restore a classic old truck. Its part selfless act, it shows your not afraid of hard work, you love old iron (and your grandma) and that's a badge you should wear with pride. So keep up the good work.
  20. Is the timber in your floor a factory item? I think all the old w model Kenworth's here had timber floor. Makes sense too, better noise and heat insulation. If your previous work is anything to go by, that cab will look great once completed.
  21. I've pulled one of mine apart. From memory, after I got the door lock and the square shaft out it came out pretty easy. Another member on here gave the advice to do one at a time, in case your stuck you can go from the other as a guide. Hope that helps some.
  22. "Old mate" has passed away Steve. Yours is much nicer, and is how I'd would do it too. But for all their bad taste they are really nice folk.
  23. I know that truck. It's in port hedland, the cab was raised and they extended the bonnet height to match. Also they mounted the cab and sleeper on rails. Practical? Yes Beautiful? No! The old man always ran Mack trucks. When he passed away the young fella went to Kenworth's and has number plates "ih8macks".
