  1. Only thing it hauls is "azz" LOL!! There is a fuel cell and small roll cage in the bed so it renders it completely useless. Go for a ride......... At the race track in 1992......
  2. Glad no one was hurt Rob. Kinda sounding like Michelle on the ATHS board. One lil "oops" and it brings everything back into perspective. I was anticipating the results as you were starting your story(as I could tell from the set up that it was going to fall). I remember pics of the cut off frame and I know it would have to be pretty tipsy if you jacked the nose up. That camaro took a wrong turn, but look at the lift arms. Why is the drivers side "out" under where the car would be and the others retracted like they were not used. I wonder if the rack lifted and shouldn't have? Or were they lifting one side to just get under the car? Sad though. Definitely an "ah shit" kinda day.
  3. Nifty ol trailer for sure. I always keep my eyes open for something like that for my truck(like I really need it). Even a s/a flat or drop deck would be cool. Speaking of hard to steer, my '69 F100 has full spool/35 spline Moser axles, 29x12 M/T tires so the little 3 1/2" front runners give little indication of turning LOL!! It has UNDERSTEER really bad, especially on highway on/off ramps. You really have to work that wheel hard to get it to go around without ending up in the ditch. Been that way for 20 yrs now and likely never get changed. Sure is fun to drive though. When I bought in spring '88 ALL stock! Couple years ago 428CJ motor/4 spd

Ok, got ambitious this morning(before the turkey get set on the table) and ran up to work and machined the tailhousing: Now I need to make a new gasket and mock it up to set the depth for the sending unit: Going to try to see if I can get it ready for reassembly this weekend. Got other stuff going on, so time will tell. At least it's all sitting there ready to go.

  6. I've got Unidens 66's and 68's in my vehicles. The 68 is the newer model, basic radios(no SSB), but had local shop peak them. A decent mic and good antenna is 75% of the problem with CBs. I run a Lil Wil mag mount on my pickup roof, the B model has a pair of 3ft Francis' mounted on the mirrors. Good solid radios, that can be repaired or updated when you want. Some of the cheapies are throw away and can't be worked on. Local guy has his store at the truck stop and occasionally has a blow out sale on peaked/tuned stuff. Ready to bolt in and talk.
  7. Glenn, ya, the original gear inside the tranny is tore up bad enough it has stripped two driven gears on the cable so far. Instead of trying to locate more gears and see how long it lasts, Rob and I devised this system. He did all the electronic work, as that's his forte' and I did the machine work. Herb, Rob worked on trying to find a "cheap" plain speedo to use. If I can get my old one apart and the number sweep is close enough I might try to switch them around. It takes a gentle hand to split that bezel ring and get it apart/back together. I'd really like it to look "old and original", but we'll have to see. I think even the R model speedo wasn't a duplicate of the B version, especially when they went to electronic. I might come up to the shop(my work) and do the machine work on the housing either tomorrow or Friday. I'd like to get it back together enough to spin it with the engine(before putting driveshaft back in) and see if it reads.
  8. Well, after another year has gone by, I'm finally getting around to finishing this up. Rob dropped the parts off early this year and it's been sitting in a box ever since. I got out tonight and get the rear housing off the tranny and ready to machine it for the sending unit. Once it's done and back on I'll work the wiring and get speedo mounted in dash. I'm going to try to get machining done through this weekend? Hopefully. Parts: Speedo and sender from Rob, I manufactured the rings. We worked on number of teeth to get the speedo to count Revs/mi correctly. Reluctor ring to replace the gear: The only big issue I would like to change is the speedo face. I'd really like to tear it apart and use my old Mack face as the numbers aren't too far off and would then look the part. One fancy new speedo in with a bunch of old gauges just doesn't fit the patina. We'll see.
  9. Ok, so I went out and was wrenching on the B to get the "new" electronic speedo put in it(another story), I took some shots of my exhaust. Some are kinda dark(I'm used to working in the dark). Passenger side: Duplicate on drivers side: The shorter 40 gal tank is mandatory: The upper mounts: The homemade Y pipe: From the rear: I like the overall look as it looks like it was made that way. No cobbled up brackets, it looks the same on both sides. Ya, it makes no difference to anyone but me, but hey, it's mine.
  10. I think my 4" x 96" stacks were less then $200 each from local place. The stuff underneatch wasn't much, the "Y" I made from two 90* bends. The brackets got made for cheap money. I already had one pipe on the truck, so adding the second wasn't too bad. I already had the extra fuel tank, so that didn't cost anything. I'll get some pics of everything on mine sometime this week and get it posted for all to see.

The Mack green might not have been too terrible, but being metallic too it likely woulda looked kinda odd. I'm SOOOOOO jealous! Get that finished up so you can start on mine!!!!!!!

  13. Pipes shouldn't be a problem, 4" stuff is available. How you go about mounting it will be the question. I put duals on my B model, but I wanted it to look "factory". I made a sketch of my passenger side mounts and had local fab shop bend me up duplicates, but reversed. I then bolted the lower mount to frame, and installed upper mount to the cab using existing holes for hose hangers(just like passenger side). I made my own "Y" pipe, but you can buy them too. There are other ways of doing it, but mine looks like it came that way. The only major change was removing the 50 gal drivers fuel tank and replacing it with a 40 gal passenger tank(which I had extra). This makes the needed room in rear of cab for pipe and mount. Others run theirs above the frame, across rear of cab. Don't think I have an actual picture of my set up. I could get some if you like.

I see it as strange that back in the day, being "colored" was a down trade. Now white kids walk around imitating "gangsta" rappers. They think it's cool, but then wonder why no one will hire them.

  17. WTF?? Even when I replaced my WHOLE floor, I still reused the panel. Wasn't that hard to do, and sure makes maintenance easier. Guess your stuck with Nikki? Damn.
  18. Might have been on the ATHS website, but someone posted a link to a place that offers needle bearing pins for springs. Suppose to be better, less chance of freezing up then just a pin and bushing.
  19. Or.....you could pull the floor panel out and look down for yourself as you push the pedal? I know, not as pleasant to look at as Nikki, but would get the job done sooner.

  22. Oh...don't worry Tom. I'm around, just been pretty busy and not had time to play here. one question: Did they charge Rob double price for air tickets.........since likely would take two seats?
  23. Lots of guys did this. Only problem, cab room. Not condusive to comfort, so not a real popular thing to do for a daily working truck. Personally I can pick one of these conversion very easily, as the front wheels stick out of the fenders due to the wider axle.
