  1. Budget?? What's that?? LOL!!! Sounds like a pretty cool idea.
  2. Not sure about the IFTA sticker? I put one one mine that first year, but then cancelled it so never reported any "tax". Not sure if they would just look at it or run the number and see you aren't included on his paperwork? I'm pretty sure you have to have paperwork showing the truck that the sticker is assigned to(just to keep this from happening).
  3. Well, glad to hear you got over that hurdle. As for fuel tax? When I was going to NY for national covention, I was going to purchase temp passes, but decided to cancel it all and go historical. I suppose you could do the same, call the state you are traveling through and purchase the pass. Or just fly under the radar and hope no one sees you(don't hit scales).
  4. 30 yrs ago I wanted to be a truck driver, and thought there was nothing else I would ever want to do. Well, I get to play truck driver on the weekends, but got a 9-5 job that pays the bills. Sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do. Don't fret it, it might just take you a few side steps to get to your final destination.
  5. We got a few inches last week, but not enough to get the Cub out and plow....though I could have to just have fun(too cold though). I love my Cubby!
  6. Man Rob........you're running around faster then a porn star with a limp............um.........well, you sure are busy! After buying my truck I had to get the front brakes hooked up/working. Everything was frozen solid and took some heat to make the brakeshoes move/s-cams work. Re-honed the bushings and everything works great. How's your kingpins? Definitely want to work on those since you got the hubs off! Actually really easy project to do, my pins came out pretty effortlessly(Compared to ford trucks). Oh, ya, any input on speedo pickup? Just wondering?
  7. I working on a similar project, but I'm going with 4.10 gears and my single OD Triplex. I agree, even with my 4.62 gear now, it's kinda fast in Reverse. It will be worse with the change to 4.10. With my 14K trailer, I usually start in 2nd LO(very easily), but likely need 1st LO with the change out back. With the added length in my frame a Brownie would really be an asset giving me a deep first when needed. THREE sticks......Ya boy!
  8. Electrical ain't all that hard. Just can't let the magic smoke out
  9. Pretty cool idea. Years back a buddy who is bodyman did that with front of a 80's Mustang and build a toybox for his kids stuff. Seen others that build sofas out of them. About 15+ yrs ago there was a '65 Buick running around with a matching "back half" trailer that he could unhook, attach a tiller to front support tire and using golfcart electric power to drive it around. It was a "C" cab arrangement, with just the back half of the car with back seat. All painted to match. Inventive people.
  10. A ha. I see. Guess there are more variations to this stuff then one would think.
  11. My Uncle had the best advice: "Never bring anything to a fight you can't EAT". His three boys were holy terrors and built for it. He of course was meat slinger so he was no slacker. Of course this was 30 odd years ago when you DID just fight with your hands(no guns/knifes). Just two guys with a beef to settle.
  12. Most "alkys" know they don't have a problem: They drink, they get drunk, they fall down. See, NO problem.
  13. ?? Where is this "heat" coming from? Got me cornfuzed. The shutters are sprung open(failsafe), as long as the motor is cool, it uses air to close the shutters and try to build heat in the motor. Once it sees a specific heat, it closes the valve and allows the spring to pull the shutters open. Even with a thermostat, I don't think an idling diesel will create that much heat? Most times they tell you to get them up to 1000 rpm or so. Only during hot summer days does mine get hot enough to open the shutters while idling for any time, but usually only after it's been on the road not persay just out of the garage. I would assume the shutterstar is also sprung so it's failsafe is closed so it won't hold the shutters closed if something goes awry.
  14. Insulation? Sound deadener?? What?? You want to actually be able to talk while traveling? Huh? Come on...........LOL! I can't WAIT to see it in person! Of course, they'll park me in the back 40 while YOU get the front row spot at Thompson. (unlike last year). Pete was takin care of me
  15. Wow..........still love model railroading even thought I don't have a layout anymore. I'm hooked on 7 1/2" scale stuff now(though can't afford it either LOL! ). Local group has a set up at a local state park that has public runs a couple times a year. Just another money pit LOL!!!!
  16. Oh........I can see it now................... "Newsflash".............walking and running is deadly due to the high risk of getting run over by some shmuck that is texting/talking/doing their taxes while driving. It's better to just stay at home and sit around. Sad part is if people would eat properly they wouldn't get FAT!!! Duh. My job is alot of sitting around and I'm not obese. Oh, I watch what I eat and it takes care of itself.
  17. Might have been Dennis at OMT that had a crewcab B model from a fire truck for sale some time back? Would be a way cool toy hauler!
  18. Cool stuff Trent. Way back(late 70's) I had a 1/87 Transtar COE truck/trailer that I drilled and put headlights into(all metal-like a matchbox) and put the batteries in the trailer. Cool to play with on the old train set at "night". This had true 18 wheels on it also, not "super singles" LOL! Wish I still had it.
  19. And therego the reason we're in this freak'n mess. I can still remember those commercials from a few years back. "Refiance a $350,000 house for $500/month"........Say WHAT??! OH, that only covers the interest and none of principal.......so 30 yrs later you still owe $350,000. Oops, did everyone forget to read the fine print? Oh ya, anyone PRICED a new truck lately? Geezus. $45-50K dollars! My first house didn't cost that much.
  20. Canadian Pontiac Eh? LOL!! Ya, buddy has a '68(or '69 I forget)Beaumont in his garage(Canadian Chevelle). Hmmm, guess I'll be going to Thompson again(weather permitting). Hate to miss out on YOUR B model this year
  21. Heck even if they WERE Pete wheels we ALL know that a Pete spends so much time in the shop it surely won't need them anyway(owner probably sold them to pay for fixing the truck...again).....
  22. Before I moved I was down to less then 10 yrs on my house. That all went out the window 6 yrs(already) ago. Don't owe anyone anything but on house and plan to keep it that way. I've been on 4 days for last 3 months, so I've gotten used to PBJ sandwiches and not going out alot. G/F been making dinner instead of going out(and me paying most times). IF and WHEN things get better I won't know what to do with all the extra money Oh, ya, just got my property tax bill Saturday There goes a nice chunka change
  23. Dam.............I missed a few days here and one post goes 10 pages in 24 hrs? Jiminy crickets.
  24. I guess you have to put a W motor in that Pontiac..................but ohhhhh, what a pity. Not sure about the gasser show as it's moved to Norwalk. Is Thompson going to have their own show too?
  25. I figured all the 'bama sticker went away with the Cash for clunkers vehicles?
