  1. Well, we're going to work hard at NOT screwing anything up along the way!! It's going to be an all summer deal, getting all my ducks in a row before dealving into it. Are you going to just bolt yours on or slip it over like mine? I wanted to lengthen mine so I have to slip it. If I was just replacing, I'd bolt it on. The only noticable things that needs replaced is the torque arm, as it's pretty ugly looking. The panhard looks okay. Other then that I'm going to just run it, with new cams, cans, bags, shocks.
  2. Since I was sick as a dog since Friday evening, both of those look like UPGRADES to what I had all weekend Caught a cold Fri, it built up all weekend and I'm just going back to work Wed. Still feel like hell(look like it, but that's normal).
  3. Paul, I'd LOVE to have enough power to use the 3.70's. My buddy keeps telling me to leave them in and try it. I know it's a waste of time with only 180 hp/500 lb/ft torque. He told me how his Shiny 290 would pull it fine with 80K lbs. Ya, well that's got a bit more power then me! Besides being wayyy too fast in Reverse too. I'll stick with the 4.30 for now and be able to pull 70 mph downhill, or at least cruise 65mph not on the governor all day. It's a '92 Ford chassis, Neway air ride, original single axle tractor converted to dump. The joint will still be a foot or so behind the cab, but under the bunk when I get it. It will be a slip over/bolt on. No welding needed(which is nice). Don't worry Mike...........your first on the list for the old stuff! Heck, you can even have my new springs and slip it under your truck. With a bit of weight on the back it'll ride like a dream! Last week I got the frame stripped down to bare bones: Spent some time this evening and got the wedges out of the axles(geesh, who came up with THAT idea?). Lots of heat, PB blaster and sledgehammer. The axles had never been out, buy the looks of the faces(that had never been beat on yet) They look well used NOW! Ready to pull the pig and swap it out.
  4. I'd leave the dash alone, or chrome the panels like you mentioned. I was just stating that if I painted the doors, they'd look outta place with the rest of the inside. Just covering the doors with button tuffed panels would really make it nice. My headliner is starting to fall apart on the seam on the pass. side and it's drooping in the center. Never was put in right before I bought the truck. I glued 1" jute on the top to help with noise control. Sorta helped I suppose. Love to get real sound deadner put on back wall and floor. Someday.....
  5. Looks great Rob. Would love to make something like that for my B. Just to cover the rough looking door panels. Ya, could paint the door, then the dash wouldn't match. Easier to cover up the green LOL!!! Need a headliner too, but looking at costs on them pretty much changed my mind on that!!! (ouch). I think the black button tuffed interior is classy in an old truck.
  6. My Dad to a TEE!!! God rest his soul.
  7. I went to a demonstration at local HS back in '96 where they had a laser alignment gizmo set up. You hang "targets" from specific points and this rotating laser measured everything. You did it while on the frame machine. Pull til it's perfect. It was a mobile unit that they were selling, basically giving you a possible business oppurtunity. You let all the local shops know you have it, they pay you to bring it in set it up for their frame work. Wasn't really stupid money, though can't recall figure.
  8. Yup, if you found those numbers on the right side of axle just outside of the spring perch? Look directly below to see a STAMPED number like "FA-xxx" Might have to look closely, with wire brush and brake cleaner.
  9. Paul, you've got the BEST guy on here for getting a truck started that has run outta fuel. Rob is the KING!!! He'll keep trying til he gets it right Who us?? Naw.......not us.
  10. I've never gotten them. I had truck plates on mine originally and was going to go to Syracuse for National convention. It was going to cost me north of $250 for temp permits. DOH!! I quickly put Hist tags on the truck and that was 7 yrs ago. I've been to Indy, Bowling Green, Ky, NY without issue.
  11. Barry, that looks like a really nice start! Extra cab too. We'll be keeping an eye on the progress!
  12. Friday was a good day. I hooked up to my buddy's utility trailer and made a trip to pick up my parts. Got home and used the bobcat to roll it back off and put it off to the side of the garage for future work. I want to do some clean up work, ie: sandblasting, to make it ready for some POR 15. Will need new bags, shocks and other assorted hard parts. The panhard bar looks a bit worn so likely replace it. The torque rod looks good still. The fellow is looking into finding budd hubs for the front of my B. I gave him all my bearing specs and spindle information I got years ago when I did the king pins. If he can find something, even if I have to do some custom machine work I'll leave the budds on the back. If the front falls through then I'll be picking up spokes for the rear. I also have to swap carriers as it's geared fast(3.70) and he has a set of 4.30's waiting. I did find out one thing this afternoon after poking around. I WILL be able to slip the new frame OVER my existing frame. Using more accurate tape I found the inner dimension is the same as my outer. Yahoo!! I'll have about 70" of overlap as I'll be able to butt my frame up to the front suspenion crossmember. This makes me very happy.
  13. Surprisingly my State Farm agent just told me I could put hist. insurance coverage on my B model. They took pics and wrote it up. It really dropped my cost as it was about $50/mo for regular insurance. Now it's like $100/year(can't recall, haven't gotten new bill yet). Bad news, my agent had heart attack and I haven't been able to get alot of information since I switched it. I should be getting policy in the mail right quick.
  14. The convertible top musta slowed that thing down. Close friend had a '75? Rabbit for work car back in mid/late 80's. That thing ran like a raped ape and got great mileage. Always was kinda partial to that car, and wished they were still around to have one. That gantry must be quite the set up. Sure didn't look THAT big when he was at my house with it on the trailer LOL!!
  15. Lots of places to start: Fuel in carb? No? Fuel pump or fuel lines? Did it stumble and quit or just stop sudden? Electrical? 12v to coil? Coil bad? Wiring? Points? Does it try to start with fuel dumped in carb? Or Ether? Then likely fuel related. If not, then electrical.
  16. LOL!!!! Ya, welcome to my world LOL!!! Ya'll wanna trade for a weekend?? Come on....you'll love it Lucky my g/f isn't a talker and there is nothing on the radio as neither are possible to hear on the highway! Jim, it looks AWESOME and I'm freak'n jealous as HECK!! Compared to my rusty, faded rig: You'll get used to that too. The main reason why I won't upgrade to something else(beyond the fact nothing else fits in the garage). Couple weeks to go til Thompson!!! I just had to tell the g/f that I have to cancel my reservation to her nephews wedding on June 5th(DOH!!) Priorities!!
  17. Yup, Dan's the man. Sounds like it's running PERFECT.......................LMAO!!!!!! I'm sure more then one of us can help you get it fixed up. I'm no DD expert, but everyone talks about the drain tubes and if it gets plugged will pump oil big time and smoke. Something to start with.
  18. Here is the reply I got: I think I have a 8.2 injector around here to verify that although they have a control rack and look somewhat like but smaller than a 2 stroke injector, they don't have the fuel jumper lines between the head and injector . So they have O rings on the body like the Cummins used [from the 250 on up ] . With the failure of the upper O ring the fuel would come up over the top and dilute the oil .
  19. Dang good to hear you made it through the rains. It was horrible to watch the Weather channel and see the water and how bad things were. Saw a link from another site showing Beech Bend raceway in BG, Kentucky and the scoreboards were just above the water!! It was like 16ft deep!!!!
  20. Littlerig, I'll send an email off to my buddy Dan and see what he thinks.
  21. I took the 20" split rims off my B and put tubeless 22.5's on it. Simple job.
  22. This is a dump truck that needs a complete restoration Really? . It is a rare find Compared to what??? and a canditate because all the engine, tranmission, and drives are intact Where?. It has a Fuller 13 speed transmission. Was parked several years because of a leaking headcasket. The cab is intact about the only thing "intact" and doors open and close properly. The instruments are there. Seats need upholstery. This truck has not been robbed of parts That's funny, sure looks like ALOT of things were robbed from this truck. Dump was working when parked surely making it worth ALOT more money?. Buyer must pay to load and transporation. Duh Very sad indeed.
  23. My truck has the "P" motor(non turbo, but split intake manifold) but had the short cap on it. I also liked the tall pipe and ordered the chrome extension for it. When I bought the truck, the cap had a large dent in the side where the wing window had hit it over the years when opening the door.
