Yes, I’ve have been following that on the news. I have the day off. Terrible I guess they’re still trying to find people stuck in the water. They have a lot of help according to the news channel. Thanks for that Larry.

The last video l saw from overhead (in the past hour) didn't show any rescue boats near the bridge. lll bet the ships pilot had a few choice words for/about the captain and crew. At 17-20 seconds in the video you can see the state bridge crew trucks as the center span collapses.    .....Hippy

On our news channel video, you could clearly see all kinds of rescue boats water was full of them. I doubt they’re gonna get everybody out alive too bad everybody’s hoping for the best. and yes, there’s gonna be all kinds of people with their in the ringer. They already mentioned the boat was going to fast. Somebody must’ve been sound asleep. That’s what I’m thinking horrible.

Just curious.... Aren't large ships escorted by tug boats to help keep the boat on course?

That sounds about right Joey I know they’re out there for a reason. They usually do just like you said guide big vessels like that into their location spot which I think is kind of difficult trying to maneuver a big vessel like that but I know nothing about boat boats. And don’t claim to… bob

The loose power caper I think is bologna they’re just looking for excuses. If you watch the video clip all their lights were on until they hit the bridge and everything blew out. but then who am I to pass judgment?

Doesn’t have anything to do with me, but that’s gonna be awfully expensive to pick up family members suing everybody rebuilding the bridge bottled up traffic so on so forth… bob

Shivers...

Saw the video on my local news page.

The heigth of the bridge to fall from and the temp of water don't give good chances to survive.

Large plume of black smoke when they got the lights back on so maybe the motor stalled or they fired up an aux generator but too little too late. They say they dropped an anchor at some point too but I know nothing about boats

Maybe that M-100 Mack will come out of retirement once the smoke clears and they begin rebuilding.

i saw a 4 minute video showing the ship loose power around two minutes before hit.

than lights came back on and heavy smoke out of stack. about 30 seconds later power went out again. 30 seconds later came back on, about 30 seconds before it hit the bridge

Correct on power loss before impact.  What I don't understand is, they managed to shut bridge down before impact but did not notify the crew that was on bridge patching potholes??  You can see their flashing yellow hazard lights as drifting ship was approaching.  3:55 just now Maryland gov is praising effort to shut down bridge access before impact.  Confirms what I'm saying .... what about repair crew????

I am stunned by the fact that the whole bridge fell, and one end broke off at he same time or a split second before the center section on that side tipped..  it is the side to the right in the videos...

Yessir, that bridge was tall. I've been across it many times, and I read an article years ago that listed it as one of the most dangerous bridges in the US. That was after the I-35 bridge collapse in Minnesota I think, and it was considered dangerous because it was on the " most likely to collapse" list. I thought about that every time I crossed it.

Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point was at the north end of the bridge. Huge steel mill, loaded coils there many times. You'd leave the mill, get on 695, stop and pay the toll, then you'd start climbing. It was a pretty hard pull going up that bridge.

Oh absolutely, as bad as it was if it had happened at 7 or 8am, it would have been so much worse.

Someone posted a live video shot of traffic on the bridge as it got hit.  Likely from a traffic camera.  It was on FB and I can't find a link now.

I know nothing about large ships, BUT are the rudder and propulsion equipment computer controlled??? So that the loss of power creates loss of control?? If so, what about all the computer control of airplanes and trucks??? Accidents waiting to happen???

it was a perfect hit, I wonder if there is a current that steered the ship ?  seems to me that their headway would have been pointing to the center of the channel?  sorry guys, but I have watched many films now and heard several news people and J.B.  and there is too much chatter about the affect's on our economy..   Please forgive me if I sound like I need a new tin foil hat..  Jojo
