Popular Post Freightrain Posted May 8, 2017 Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2017 Well it took two years and lots of prodding to get my friend to finally start on making the pieces. The g/f was getting impatient about having to sleep sitting up in the passenger seat. Making the corner piece was the biggest deal, the door was simple. The corners are aluminum extrusions and took some finesse to fabricate from pieces and weld together into something straight and usable. I was pleasantly surprised when my friend handed me the piece and it fit right up and looks good. The only thing left is to get the skin back on the rear. I have a piece cut for the open section, but after looking at the drivers side it looks kinda rough and since I'm fixing it I might as well fix that sheet too. Need to stop and get another sheet of aluminum and shear it to size. Once that is on I will scuff it down and paint the whole thing. Won't be any show winner, but after what it looked like: I'm pretty happy with it. Will be a few weeks before I can get paint on it, but should get on the truck shortly. Talked yesterday and he says it will be white by Friday. I should be able to pick it up next week sometime. My plan is to get the back of cab opened up again, boot installed on the cab and on my way over to pick up bunk stop at buddies and grab the bobcat on the trailer. Once at painter, I will unload bobcat and install bunk. Once bolted on, load bobcat and return it to friend and go home and finish boot installation on bunk side. Freightrain Posted June 10, 2017 Author Share Posted June 10, 2017 Robert, I'm still working on getting a front axle for Budds. I have the hubs for the rear axle already. I just got a donation of some KBS paint to help spiff up the old spokes. Hope to get to that in a few weeks? Should brighten that up a bit from the 15 yrs of crusty spray bomb paint and dirt. HarryB, yes it is Neway. I put new bags, bushings and shocks on it. It doesn't ride horrible bobtail, but the only thing that really helped was the added 5ft I put in the frame. You can't really cut the air pressure to the bags to soften them. It's like a tire, low air just lowers the right height. Basically you can't lower the pressure without lowering the ride height. The leveling valve doesn't allow that to happen. What some people mention is a "ping tank". Basically an air tank tied into the bags with a large line for easy flow and that added air gives a better right(softer) since it has more volume to compress. I've never done it, as I never really bobtail it much anymore. With the trailer, it rides nice. I basically always take my race trailer with me on any kind of trip just for ride quality. HarryS.
