Popular Post Firemack Posted December 1, 2015 Popular Post Share Posted December 1, 2015 A retired FDNY dispatcher had this FDNY CF, due to health issues he was not able to work on it any longer, so wanted to see if it could go to new home and avoid the scrapper. CF600 made contact with the gentleman and agreed to save the truck. We arranged to pick it up last Sunday before the snow (which we know will be here soon!). Left at 6am and made it North Central PA by 9. Had a few issues: LR outer tire had a blow out and was flat , Inner tire was also flat- replaced the outer tire, filled up the rest to get it to roll 2 Dead D batteries- put in fresh batteries Fuel tank was on the ground, straps had broken- used cargo straps to pull it back to the frame- but when it fell must have broken the fuel line or has rust in the tank or filters Truck had not run in 5 years and think mice may have eaten the wires she would not crank so bypassed the solenoid and got it to turn over and fire on ether- so we knew we had no fuel to the engine Disconnected the fuel line and used a temporary tank- primed it up and she fired up! E6 350 sounded great- got it out of the hole it had sunk into in 5 years and put it on the lowboy by 6 pm for a ride to it's new homeAll original 1986 FDNY Engine 216 Mack CF with an E6 350 with Allison automatic, Waterous 1000 Gallon Pump, all lights and apparatus all original. Needs a good bath and TLC and should be ready for shows next year!Got lots of comments on the ride home- all antiques 1985 Mack MH 612 hauling the 1982 Rogers hauling the 1986 Mack CF- it was an antique show on wheels!Made it home safely at 1am long day - but that's truckin and saved one FDNY Mack! 15 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I’ve also got a former FDNY CF600, a 1988, but it had only been out of service for two months, so mice hadn’t moved in yet. Good luck with the next steps in the renovation process. This was one long day day since we did not have any wiring diagrams or fuel pump diagrams, so just trial and error to get it going. Carl that is very cool that you rode with it when in service in Brooklyn. We found a picture (attached) at the station that was sold on eBay. Al It will stay in Reading with CF600 and since he has 3 other CF's I think he may need some help getting it to the shows so think I will get to drive it when needed!We know it served as Engine 216 from Jan 1987 to November 1998 and think it was then a reserve engine since it has the NYFD shop paint job and touched up the dog legs and fenders for typical CF rust.
