mrsmackpaul 2,417
yep as above showed what people wanted tough reliable cost effective trucks that worked hard all day every day in any conditions wonder what might of changed ??I think Algeria might have had a lot of US money spent there back in the 60's and 70'sPaulRaji you have a good couple of units to start a rebuild
Raji 24
Yes you're right , unfortunately i don't have the means nor conditions to rebuild these trucks but at least if i had much money i will buy them just to ensure that they will be not scrapped & recycled , i hope someone will save them very soon. Wobblin-Goblin 817
I'm not sure where Mack fits in the pecking order today, but for half my adult life (I'm 45), Mack seemed to dominate the trucking and hauling industry. Seems to me that it all started changing in the 1990s, once the classic R model had more or less run its course. When I was a kid in the '70s and '80s, Macks were literally everywhere, doing every job imaginable. How can one company go from dominance to being a subsidiary of a middling manufacturer? What happened?
Popular Post mackdaddy 934
It takes a huge amount of capital to finance a complete truck manufacturer like Mack was. And with all of the government intervention from emissions to safety it just probably piled up to high. I look back when the CH line was introduced it was a well engineered truck that in many ways was ahead of it' time in assembly, comfort, and aerodynamics. I bet the move to South Carolina combined with too slow of development of the updated in line 6 is what really did them in.Just think if CAT would have bought them or even a Ford or?? instead of Volvo.............
41180 283
Mack lost market share because of poor power poor engine brakes and lackluster styling. They couldn't compete with only a 12 liter in a 15 liter world.
Vladislav 2,980
Raji,Thank you for sharing with us Macks from your area. It's too interesting to see them from different parts of our world.Sad those R's came to the junkyard, I hope someone will save them.I myself did that with the pair of R's in my country.By the word I heard the things aren't too easy in Algeria nowadays. Are they?Vlad Quote Никогда не бывает слишком много грузовиков! leversole 11.2012
Raji 24
Raji that R model is looking fairly complete might be a good truck for you to start with ??PaulUnfortunately i spent all of the money i had on a 94 Diesel Suburban :/ but even if i had the chance to buy it ! i wouldn't do ! that's because i don't have any chances to restore it or make something with it , and that's really sad, i really hope someone can take care of it very soon ... sorry for my late response because i don't connect too much on this forum. By the word I heard the things aren't too easy in Algeria nowadays. Are they? You're welcome Vlad that's my pleasure, i adore the old American trucks !And yes you're right about finding these old American irons in Algeria is really hard now ! i'm very interested about them since 2010 and i didn't find really much of them since that time and no Mack trucks was seen, just i'm still confused about a white tanker truck i have seen in 2012 summer but i didn't confirmed if it was a Mack or Ford LTS-Series ! the pictures i posted before on this thread was only sent by friends that are mostly from eastern cities. Raji 24
You're welcome ! it's my pleasure !And this is a new picture, taken just today i received from a friend, he found this old yellow R-Series in Bougaa, Sétif east Algeria in a junk yard with 2 C-500 Kenworth's, it's great how old Mack's are getting more discoverable these days in Algeria, and by this new discovery i'm starting to think about the possibility of may be there was a local company using these R-Series to transport their loads across the country. thomastractorsvc 1,378
Wow that looks to be an old R, looks like a steel dash I like the turn signals it is a little different.. Cant be much rust on them looks like they get run til they cant then strip them to keep the next one going. I am sure parts are hard to come by for those older trucks. thinice 0
No. Volvo has decided to promote the Volvo brand in Africa. At the 2011 Johannesburg Motor Show, every heavy truckmaker was there in force, including M-B, MAN, Volvo, Scania, DAF, UD, Hino, Isuzu and Mitsubishi. The Mack brand was not represented. If you search for Mack in Africa, you are directed to the Volvo Africa website which has no mention of the Mack brand.http://africa.macktrucks.com/ Check this out. Popular Post Raji 24
2 weeks ago i had seen a white Mack DM (probably 690-s, tanker version) in Zemmoura, Relizane, west Algeria. it had Turkish license plates on it, i tried to take a picture but unfortunately i couldn't because my phone was lagging when the truck was coming on the opposite side of the road, the truck was in excellent condition and it probably belongs to a Turkish construction company, this is the first time* in my life i see a Turkish registered vehicle in my country and how great that it was a MACK !*(except for another yellow Turkish registered Mack and a Dodge AS-Series i have seen only on the Internet) Edited January 20, 2016 by Raji
