  1. It has under the frame exhaust and probably the shortest wheelbase for a tandem tracktor. The same as at my one.
  2. Good info on tanks welding. I spent about a half of past summer to fix my 2 steel ones up. Also filled with water and welded but had to solder up the repaired areas because found minor water crowls through. Warmed up with a diesel heat gun for about an hour and than blasted and painted the outsides.
  3. They were going to scrap the truck and all those engines also. They will if I don't pre-pay it in days. The truck looks like wasn't killed much before broke down. The left hand tank is stollen. So the truck keeps balance. Don't forget there's front wheel drive so it can run just with no rears at all. But the tank is lost and probably many others. Guys were thinking on chaining up the axle and tow it by 6x6 KrAZ over those unpaved 300 km than put on a common rig. I still hope to not go there myself. No straight flights there, train goes 36 hours. Or about 3 days with a car/truck. It would be nice a trip for shure, an adventure, but I feel hard shortage of time.
  4. That's cool idea if I only can build it myself. Towing equipment is too pricy overhere. Do you mean it looks like E6 2V under the hood? I also couldn't see well the sticker but it looks more as T2060 6 speed transmission. The chassis shot shows its back and it seems as T200 to me. Any ideas on that scrap gear box?
  5. Are CH ones similar with any Freightshaker or IH of the modern days? I want to fit something like that onto MH tanks, there's a lot of non-Mack branded stuff overhere.
  6. That's formally not Siberia because it's not behind Ural mountains so counts as European part of Russia. Although that city (Pechora) is in about 1500 km to the North from Moscow and about 1000 to the East and Ural is just in 200-300km from. Haven't look well how the location is related to the North polar circle but think it's nearby. The guy visited me for Mercedes parts, saw my trucks and said "There was Mack of the kind in our city". I shure asked him to learn more. Just a week later he sent me the pictures. The story was the truck worked in the oil company with the tank body. Then some one bought it off that company. There was 40 cubic meters tank and he filled it up with 40 metric tons of fuel. The axle broke down immediately, he just didn'd get started. Don't know that's all true though. Couple days later the owner was found. Correctly to say the owner's son. He said the registration was canselled and the papers were gone. He wanted scrap+ price for the thing. That was good but now it has me scratching my head on how to move it. As I told the city is in 2000km from me. There's no paved road for the last 300km. Than there's a big river with no bridge. Only the farry. But it doesn't operate now because of the ice move... Ouh, I have a question. There are three extra engines with it and the tranny. All the 3 are different and I have no ideas on how they came there. The question is what the gearbox is? Doesn't look like T2060 like the one in the truck. If I'm not wrong. Vlad
  7. Jim, The village on the isle in the lake is the monastery. And the sign at the McDonald's... Once some years back city govnt issued the law that every brand name written on a building outside must be written or doubled in Russian. Sometimes it looked funny but it happened more than 10 years back and we used to. Vlad
  8. You noted it right. Actually that part of the highway was two laned just about 5 years back. Last time there were 3 lanes combining 2 one direction with 1 opposit than in 1 km vice versa. They finally started road construction to make it wider. The pavement was and still is like after some bombing for about 20 km long. All the highway is a real shame. It connects two main cities, Moscow and Saint Petersburg. No less than 1/3 of it is 3 laned and there are so many villages and little cities along it (with limitation of 60km/h) so you have no chances to keep their count. By the word if you go that construction part of the road in the night you wouldn't see not only candle sticks but just any lights at any points. And maybe neither lines on the asphalt. And a good point - a kilometer of the road in Russia cost about 10 millions Euro. Twice expensive than in Germany. Who may tell why?
  9. Yes Paul, no problems. I'll make a trip to Kubinka tomorrow and talk it out for you I'm afraid Paul it would be too difficult. A couple of months back some one came to me and said he bought big land in 400 km from Moscow and started collecting army vehicles. He had two tanks. On my surprized question he answered he could have them demilitarized but registred museum officially for that purpose. I'm going to visit him in the summer. Will let you know. Joe, I really had no idea there were so many SGT trucks overhere
  10. Brocky, you're right. The large beast was a ballistic rocket unit "Topol". It was designed to cruising in the woods over great territories being no need of any support or supply. A kind of athomic submarine but on the land. ZIL truck had his original cab, came into production about 1964 if the memory served me good. As of the design of that cab you can see the tendence of where its lines came from. The former owner of my R-model joked once that a R-model came into production later and Americans "stoll' ZIL's design. It was funny to hear to me. As Ray noted Russia has a great history. To my big sorry its technical and industrial history isn't so great. And it's also sad that it was very poor saved.
  11. If the water jet guy still have the programm in his machine you can offer such the equipment to the hobby crowd. Don't forget the discount for the community The red truck with the trailer looks great in the street
  12. Brocky, That's a pretty good idea. I shure had a dream to discower the green continent once but haven't ever put it on the calendar. Macks and Mack people is the most beautiful reason to arrange such a trip. August 2015 is not the day after tomorrow so I have enough time to think about. Many thanks for the invitation. Vlad
  13. Pull off the covers for the first indeed. A lot of work but maybe to pull the oil pan to look for anything else?
  14. Pretty baby beast Any RW is awesome, a nice looking restored one is out of comments. Shure you must be proud of the work and the time you put in it.
  15. Always wonder if there's any additional air tank for a starter? Mike, the truck looks cool, Westerns are awesome. The V8 one is shure the most pedigreed
  16. Glad to see your purchase. Please keep posted when you find correct full fenders for 60" Canadian spread. I had some luck googling it put had doubts on the matter.
  17. Good luck on the project. Sorry I can't help about parts sources, almost the same as you. Hope the summer will be long in Canada this year. And yes, a rust free cab is a good option for a restorer.
  18. I don't know why but I can't post pics with descriptions under each of them. So I have to make a multi post. Some more pics I have. The environment, churches, McDonald's as you can see it here in Russia and old and upset IH cabower down the road.
  19. On my back way I cruised local roads having no want to jam up with many others who vent back home into the city after the long Victory day weekend. Saw unfinished project of some one in the little village who put the car's body onto 4x4 truck chassis. Saw fresh painted old ZIL dump truck. Saw many old churches in the woods. Saw many tanks. Yes, there were many of them. I fixed the ones I could stop and make a shoot. There was an area of strong battles with Germans during WW2, that's why those tanks were there.
  20. Here you can see the couple of shots of the lake I was nearby at the point of destination.
  21. After that I vent around the city ring and followed direction North, to Saint-Petersburg. Made couple of sunset pics along the good part of the road than came into constraction area. That construction was a good thing because the part of the highway they worked over was really terrible.
  22. Recently I made a trip along the central part of my country. It wasn't really long, about 500km and than back. Sorry I didn't drive a truck but my small Mercedes "truck". It was a kind of holiday with some business and I had my camera with me. Nice weather and spring growing woods made the environment too attractive to use it. Nothing extraordinary although you maybe enjoy the shots from the other side. The first adventure I was invovlved in happened in right 10 minutes after the start. There was a big jam and the policeman said the road was closed becase of the vehicles going back from the city after the military parade. It was 9th of May, the day when Germans capitulated in 1945. The victory day. I vent out and saw most the vehicles having not been at the parade.
  23. Reading the comments above I read the main thought in my head - we like them all! Thank you for posting.
