  1. Seems like a normal front end heigth to me. The green truck probably rides on 12.00R 24.5's wich are tall. Both my R's have blocks of about 3 or 4" between the beam and the springs and I'd bet that's from the factory. The pics show the front axle off R688 of late 80's wich was parted out. You can see them blocks. Note the paint is always the same.
  2. I see no trouble if you need some shimming, no grinding
  3. Cool! Looks like they built custom front fenders. Or customized original LT ones.
  4. It looks about a brick color on my screen. Funny thing is Germans, at least Mercedes call that paint Englischgruen. But if you check out for example Jaguar pattern Englishgreen would look as almost another story. Thank you for sharing the pics.
  5. Saw it. Wonder how easy it was for the "car" driver to follow his "trailer" on speed sitting backwards and turning by mirrors.
  6. Still try to figure out was that a good or a bad thing but I already stood up and started checking out the dogs on the shelf. Pleased generally. The original one off the 1988 R-model is asymmetrical and with PAT#. But with short ears wich was expected. The one I bought from ebay some while back is a decent shape long eared dog with a sharp tail. And the almost new one I purchased from Barry has the late script and absolutely symmetric indeed. Ordering it I wasn't learned about those newer improvements. Otherwise I wouldn't. Keith, thank you for posting that and pulling out the original Ron's post. I haven't read it before.
  7. That Hayward F-model tanker is an impressive thing. What is/was it used for?
  8. I would put a pair of seats or a long bunk in the front section of the box to register the truck and keep the gen on its place. Sure if I would like to keep the truck close to original. Global rebuild to get a whole box living area is another story. It would be nice to see some pics of your truck. Don't remember seeing many R688 fire engines. Vlad
  9. Keep them coming! They're all nice but some of them are real pretty. Vlad
  10. Hmm... France.. The lend of romance... I would say it's not an easy way to find stuff out in France. Those people keep lots of treasures in their barns but don't use to show it out for sale on the net and so on. As my Dutch friend said you should go there, talk, eat and drink wine and then you maybe will get some nice things. He's a big specialist about that. But he speaks French either. I heven't ever heard about B87SX for sale there but I've got to know about the nice unrestored AC Bulldog wich some old man keeps in the shed and has no intend to part with. That's an original WW1 truck.
  11. I've got some experience with different films. Some of them went off clean resting about no glue on the window. Some kept traces wich I had luck removing with paint thinner and just a cloth. But once I got to ride off the tint film on my own vehicle and had almost the whole layer of glue on it. I tried to rub it off using everything starting from gasoline and after an hour of work removed the glass, put a cloth on its full surface, penetrated well with thinner and put into the plastic bag for overnight. Next day the glue became much softer and I fought it over with good amount of thinner and clothes. I took something like 40 minutes though and the other side window was just swapped with the already clean one. So much depends of a kind of film applied and you never know how it would go until start.
  12. How that could be? With one valve all 4 airbags are connected to one common line. So have the same pressure. Being similar of design (wich that way should be) they would have similar heigth. Their own heigth though.
  13. Kscarbel, great info! Just typed my previous post a couple of seconds before your documented answer. Would also like the difference about ride feeling of that air suspension in relation to earlier Neway.
  14. Looks close to Hendrikson of early 90's. Different wendor?
  15. Nice scenaries, regardless the leaves are off the trees. Red KW looks great with green dumpsters! Just perfect to make post card style pictures. If I were you I'd ask the chief (or dispatcher Randy) to supply you with only loads of such ones, nothing else. And add they should be green. Or at least blue or red. ...Oh, and all Winfal female creatures would get wet already watching your ride Thank you for sharing!
  16. Can't find
  17. Currently I can't afford to import a truck from overseas. It seems as a good thing to me either because it gives more chances to finish my resto projects. Those 10x10 vehicles were designed in 70's using ZIL 6x6 (in the movie) and Ural 6x6 trucks. Both had active trailers. There was a difference though. ZIL was biult earlier and had the drive shafts all along the trailer crossing the fifth wheel indeed. Ural utilized more improved concept. It had a pump on the tracktor chassis and hydrilic drive on the trailer axles. Both trucks didn't reach series production as far as I remember. Although there's interesting point since the movie if filmed in Poland and there are Polish registry plates on it.
  18. All that became out of my knowledge field either since I passed by that part of theoretical phisics during my education. But on the other hand when we talk about lasers I may say my dad spent the most part of his carreer working on them. Particually he didn't design emission units but power supply equipment for them. I am sure not himself but what I learned well from his talks is a laser has extremely low efficiency grade from its power supply. Usually about 0.5% So if you want to burn or blast anything you need 200 times more of energy to do it with a laser. The most important property of a laser is concentration of energy in time and space is extremely high. When you focus rays on a microscopic point and radiate a power extremely fast material just evaporates out long before it would be possible to transmitt the heat to the surround and cool off.
  19. I read one some strange post on here about the same while back and figured nothing out there. But it looked to me that our honored Firetruck Great Master from Hellertown PA knows the answer.
  20. European Renault Magnums had mechanical Mack E9 of 520 hp on earlier series, don't ready to tell up to what year, and than 560 hp E9's with electronicaly operated throttle control to satisfy higher emissions level.
  21. This point seems doubtfull to me unless an athomic bomb is used to power up those lasers
  22. Good luck on the remove. I did it once but took the cab off first. That was prescribed in my truck's manual though. Not a B model.
