  1. Those of us who actually drove  over the road know they took a lot of liberties with tractor types in convoy! Looks like some Hollywood type went to a truck auction and bought the cheapest trucks he could find.that r model day cab with the "kangaroo guard" looks like an oilfield truck

  2. Marcel 67, what a joke, I hate trucking in NYC, Jersey, and most of the lower east coast for all the usual reasons, but I still did the S.Bronx,Manhattan,Chicago,Spent the night once at the old Hialeah t.s. with a drop in Miami.( where the TA is now) only t.s. where you could get a beer at the counter! I figured I'd be dead in the morning so I sure didn't wanna die sober!😁 Why don't the wet nosed strokes want to go to California? I LOVE California. Just wash the truck, adjust the brakes and wait for Banning to close if possible! If not just make sure your paperwork is in order! I'm assuming they know how to get their paperwork in order!

  3. IoOfAm looking to find a b  model to fix up down here in Florida.just throwing around a few ideas.have any of u heard of a b series Cummins swap into a b model? Does a bell housing exist to adapt to a triplex .I know a guy who put a 10 speed road ranger behind one in a f350 Ford hotshot used a stock bell housing. The. Torque specs are similar or higher as is the horsepower, compared to a673. 1000 lb lighter.I realize this is sacrilege! Would prefer a 673 if I could find a good runner.has to b a compound as the shifting is half the fun in a "hobby truck".thanks!

  4. Happy birthday, can't believe someone's older than me! 73

  5. McKesson,tell us about your truck.I'm not familiar with that model,conv.? What engine,tyranny etc.thanks!

  6. Welcome Bucks 25!

  7. Retro, you seem to have it figured out on tire pressure! When I was hauling steel in an r model tandem tractor comeback susp. The company had me  "bobtail" a tractor 250mi from Pittsburgh pa. To buffalo ny. Knowing how rough the thing rode  "bobtail"  I dropped the drive tires to 50lbs from 90. Much better! This was 1974 and they were 1100/20 bias ply tires they have a stiffer sidewall than modern radials,so I'll bet if you are running "bias" you could run 30 psi long term. If you don't have power strg.you could. Probably drop it unit it affects your steering. The damn spell check changed camelback to comeback! Also, do you guys get "Jay Lenos Garage in Australia? I'd like to see  him drive a  road train.might have a little trouble with a two stick, but he's already driven a road ranger.

  8. Unless I am mistaken u models came  out in66 ,same as r  models the company I hauled steel for used  u and r models, day cabs.237 maxidynes .I  didn't like the long  crooked shift levers on the u,but they backed up easier. The company started buying f model sleeper cabs around the time I left. Figures!

  9. Oh,I just saw the trailers been sold! Wuz gonna suggest you go online and lookup a major flatbed carrier Landstar and Mercer come to mind, and see if they have an o/o in Texas that could deck your trailer and bring it to mass. Wouldn't have been cheap tho!

  10. 300bucks is a good price for ANY big truck tranny in serviceable condition.pull the cover and check the gears for broken teeth, pitting, teeth worn to a point etc metallic filings or a silvery look to the grease. The owner shouldn't balk at this or I'd be suspicious!

  11. On the ignition switch issue on the fire truck, a sometimes fix is spray wd 40 into it will remove moisture and often dissolve residue.Works on big truck trailer plugs and marker lite connections too. Another product good for that application is the electrical cleaner they sell in computer stores.

  12. Mike, you did change the  fluid, filter and screen right?  They didn't just suck out the fluid and check it,I'm assuming they did, I don't recall the c6  having a drain plug!

  13. Dave imagine one of today's "three week wonders" having to deal with that situation! My " hotshot tractor" a GMC 7000 puked a throw out bearing 150 miles from the house, the customer let me drop the trailer but I was out of hours.I parked on a hill at a Hardees and slept til morning, caught it in gear and drove it home without the clutch that was no problem but timing it at a couple lights and a stop sign was fun! All because the throw out bearing had no grease fitting. The one I installed did!

  14. On the Delo/Rotella question, it's like religion and politics lol But I naturally have an anecdote! In 1978 I was fabricating a wet tank for my cousin's dump trailer, and we got into a discussion about motor oils.He asked what oil I used in my welding truck ( a c30 Chevy 350 ) I said Quaker State Deluxe.WTF are you putting that garbage in your engine for? He asked politely! He is a diesel mechanic and I think he also has an air frame license as well,so I respect his opinion on anything mechanical! He went into a 20 minute dissertation (fueled by several rolling rocks), on the virtues of Rotella T motor oil Cummins,Mack,Military, rated etc. He used to tune up all his neighbors cars, said several of them with sticking lifters and smoking exhaust(from short trips and low quality oil) were cured by one Rotella oil change! I've been using it ever since in all my vehicles and lawn equipment and have never had an engine failure.I use Castrol 0w20 in my wife's corrola because Rotella doesn't make it! In all fairness I think commercial fleets are equally divided between Rotella and Delo So my results may have been similar with Delo,I'm satisfied with rotella!

  15. smart phone? What's that? I refuse to own an electrical appliance smarter than me! for what the youngsters (that's pretty much everybody) pay for one I bought anew Hobart ac/dc welder that I can build stuff with!

  16. bullhusk on the subject of tire repair,my dad used to work in an auto salvage yard in the40's. They hired old vagrant guys to do their truck tire repairs.this one fellow started beating on the ring with a sledge hammer, forgot to let out the air 1st,the ring blew off, took off both his arms!  You gotta know what you're doing on that type of tire!

  17. Ksb, I agree that we are choosing between the lesser of two evils! In reality not much less! If you follow me! One of the problems in America is we have it so easy we take for granted the freedoms we have and have had so long we don't see how fast they are going away! And once the effing election is over we will go back to ignoring how our "representatives" in gov't are working for the special interests that own them! They know the average chump is so busy with their daily routines that they are unaware of how they are being screwed!! It's no accident that the majority of those who hold higher offices are attorneys first! I believe that once they learn how the law works they become

  18. Brocky, that orange double bunk is about a 58 951 I think.Similar to BC Fry's legendary 12v71. You're familiar with that one right? Ran consistent triple digits in 1958 the whole length of pa,oh,in,etc. Got a ticket on the Pa t.p.90 mph.,loaded on an upgrade! Totaled it on the in.line.Put the engine in a new KW. If you aren't,Google BC Fry,Independence IA.

  19. I was working a construction job, building Margate Florida.was driving a little 6yd dump with a manual gate, some guy came up while I was dumping and asked me for directions and I forgot to grab the gate handle !! Next thing I know I'm looking at the sky!

  20. The old Chevy medium duty on the end looks like it has possibilities!

  21. On the subject of Jay,what I like about him is he is interested in everything mechanical, not just socially acceptable high buck stuff, lambos,Ferraris etc.He has driven virtually everything on wheels! Steam tractors, that outrageous tank engined roadster and so on.I just received a window motor from rock auto.com,for a 93Camry. 32 bucks plus shipping.(The whole unit, incl.drive assembly) they give you a choice of name brand Dorman was mentioned,or el cheapo(which I bought) the thing worked perfectly and looked like the original. they list all the major big trucks,Mack,'s etc. But only  cover later models. The part I got was 80 bucks at auto zone .That photo of Heavy gunners hay field, makes me wanna sing God bless America! And they're burning our flag!

  22. lost my Damn keyboard again! That was a 67 American la France fire truck 6cyl Detroit, auto trans probably Allison says nds battery and windshield. 2500bucks.Looks like just surface rust no visible dents. Some kind of spots on cab roof, maybe tree sap.The truck body looks really solid. If you are a fire truck guy, worth a look.Fanning springs Florida.

  23. T,Grrrl, no completely honest person would ever be in a position to run for any major political office period! It's been the lesser of two evils as long as I can remember! Interesting that "working" people for many years were traditionally democrats, at some point that changed, never saw it coming! On the more pleasant(mostly) subject of false hooks I suspect most of us have had them, not everyone will admit it! I had a driver come up to me once and ask directions as I was under a trailer, but before I heard the "snap" and rocked the trailer! I finished the hookup and pulled right out from under the trailer! Fortunately it was empty so I could easily crank down the dollies an d get back under! After that I developed the habit of crawling  under and making sure the bar was across behind the kingpin! Both candidates are equally dishonest, and self serving but trump is impulsive like a three year old, and could press that " red button" without thinking thru the consequences! Clinton is cunning and would realize that her and her family could die along the rest of us in a nuclear explosion, and is self serving enough to only press the button as a last resort!  on the subject of the pipeline, we were screwing the native people long before slavery, and they have a long memory! I had a load of sheepskins that took me across Pine Ridge reservation and it is one of the most desolate places I've ever seen!
