Torque for Dayton rims
mrsmackpaul replied to skydawg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
First things first, theres a big difference between split rims and dayton or spoked hubs The rims the outside piece, even if they are split types of rims you would have more chance of winning the lotto than anything happening while dropping the rim off Key board warriors have done so much damage with all their drama and carry on You probably have chance of dropping it on your foot or the truck slipping of the jack or stands They are no were near as dangerous as people make out are used the world over even today Paul -
Torque for Dayton rims
mrsmackpaul replied to skydawg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Never heard of deflating tyres before loosening nuts My take on these and still use them everyday, Swishman might be along shortly 100 - 150 is plenty, to much torque and all you do is squash the spacer, strip nuts and bust studs, there isn't any need for these stupid figures and all the BS that goes along with the key board warriors All drama and rubbish spoken and the key board warriors claiming they have seen people killed and mamed and so on is lies Use common sense, do them up tight with the wrench provided, make sure they run true, if you cant pull them in true with the nuts then back them off and start again Only nip them up by hand until they are within 1/4 inch of true on the tyre Then do them up tight, check within a few mile, then a few mile after that, make sure they are tight Then after 30 mile amd they should be right until the next flat or tyre change Skip all the drama and lies from keyboard warriors, up until 15 or 20 years ago thats pretty much all any truck had in Australia except for European trucks and even a lot of those had spoke conversions when new Paul -
Becoming ??????? Oh boy you have no idea how the rest of the world see's America 😐 Paul
-
If you have spoke type wheels, just buy the rim, even 10 stud I believe tubeless steel rims are readily available to suit as well Last time I looked into buying tubed or tubless with a rim it was only $30.00 more to buy a new rim compared to buying a new tube, rust band and tyre, it really was to me a no brainer and the best thing I have done tyre wise, makes the truck so much more reliable and drive so much better Paul
-
I would upgrade to tubeless without even questioning it The benefits far out way any negitives, I cabt even think of a negitive Paul

It's really coming together now, looking really sweet Paul -
Not a lot for me to add, this year marks 50 years since Australia's involvement started in Vietnam and 25 years since our troups were welcomed home officially There was a big welcome home parade in Sydney organised by the Veterans them selves, guessing they got sick of waiting for our spineless governments to extract a digit and do it for them If you have a hour or so to ponder things have a watch and see what you may or may not learn Thanks to all who served Paul

Dunno you blokes seem to be getting caught up in details and missing the big picture All I know is after a quick Google Australia is ranked 8th in the world for life expectancy and we have free medical, read what you like into that Apparently our average tax rate is 45% The U.S. is 37% NewZealand is 39% but has free medical like Australia Pretty sure Canda has free medical and has a tax rate of 33% So there's no right answer, as a radio interview I heard today was saying "to live in Australia is like winning the lotto so get out there and make the most of it" Paul

Funny that I know very little about his affairs, but more this type of stuff and Im not a American Do they even teach this type of stuff in the States ? Paul
-
Sounds like we have the same media clowns you blokes have On a different note, when people shrug there shoulders and say, "I'm only one person, what can I do ?" Well truth is we never can tell, one coast watcher from the other side of the world organized a rescue for some jokers that had a bit more than a love tap in their plywood boat with a Jap destroyer, that on it's own is pretty amazing To then think that Captain of the ply wood boat went onto become the President of a country, that President with a calm thinking head stopped a nuclear war in Cubba that was on a knife edge of happening that would of destroyed the world That same President also put the space race into over drive, he vowed that with in 10 years there would be a man on the moon and safely returned to earth All because one coast watcher hiding in jungle thousands of miles from home saw something, recieved information and acted on it I guess we all have this chance to make a difference, kinda strange when I think of it Paul

Second photo Looks to me like the input seal on the power divider is leaking It has three oil levels on the front drive axle, one on the power divider, one on the top half of the diff and Im pretty sure the other will be on the real of lower section of the diff housing You can see the first two in photo, they will have a square head on the bung, fill up until it runs out I reckon the PTO will have a crook o ring, and no it is gear oil, the hydraulics are dirty half to the right of the picture
-
Mate probably need to put some photos up of whats leaking and we should be able to help you from there Paul

Im pretty sure JFK had scoliosis of the spin as a child and should never of been allowed to join the military The Kennedy's had a lot of pull and Jack really wanted to do his part so got let in As I remember it, the military tried to give Jack a desk job but he would have none of that So they gave him a commission on a broken PT boat As the story goes he and his crew of misfits got it going and serviceable So back to your question Dave, his back was squashed during the accident and this with his previous scoscoliosis left Jack quite disabled by todays standards Thats my understanding from a young bloke growing up and what was taught to me Paul
