Chicago R models

G&D valueliner Tanzillo RD's and Starks R770 at Chicagos Mc Cormick place for the public works show. This place is historicly a Union Nightmare! They want in your pockets and think they can do everthing better than you. Tanzillo #35 "old style" -
Replace feed and pickup lines, they'd re cheap and easy to do. May want to replace the vent valve as well unless the fuel cap is your vent. There may be a check valve in the fuel return or feed. May want to replace that as well. If it still has issues it may be the pick up pump can't keep up at idle. This little pump hangs off the main fuel pump and has the in and out lines attached to it.

How many miles do you have to drive to....
Lmackattack replied to storkmack's topic in Truck Stories
Hows his hand doing???....lol...... For some reason I always thought that truck would look cool with a 2 tone paint job....white stripes along the hood lines with pin stripe accents.......are you going to paint it into stark colors? -

I have seen maybe 2 u models with a sleeper. Both were just small 36" bunks. It looks odd coming at you with that off set cab and big sleeper wall hanging out. Don't think it would be easy to get in and out of the bunk....he'll a r model with a 36" bunk can be a pain.. -

Steering wheel removal
Lmackattack replied to jakebrake86's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I used a standard steering wheel puller.. Has 2 or 3 jack screws...i would spray the splines with some PB blaster A day before to aid in pulling it... Some are stuck on tight...others slip right off... If you ever plan to remove it again use some anti seize on the splines when you install it.. -
Classic Macks
Lmackattack replied to b61mack's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Always thought the LTL and L cab long hood B models had that classy look to them. They just had that similar look of a high end automobile from the same period. They stood out among the rest. For the newer Mack's a western R model sure has nice lines to them. -
Nice trucks Is your nick name " crash" ......LOL.......glad your still here to tell the stories.

air shift pto
Lmackattack replied to pmolitor's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I have the mack rear mount pto for my 6 speed...The Mack pto part numbers were in some of the service books that mack made for the service dept. it had info for everything from orings to internal parts .... IMHO the rear mount is the only way to go on the 6 speed or 12 speed... The rd I drive now has a side mount and it sucks...too much bs to operate for what it should be... -

I drove a 96' mid rise IH9400 eagle .double bunk. I ran in teams rarely as in a few times a year. I never felt we had lack of space. We kept our clothes bags on the floor and had 2 cubby holes for stuff we used. No tv or fridge just a small cooler we kept in the truck and a large cooler with the majority of drinks kept in the trailer. Running solo I kept the upper bunk up and out of the way. 10- 16 hrs driving then go to sleep for 8-10 . Well rested and do it again. Don't think I ever went anywhere in the u.s that kept me in the truck more than 3 nights in a row... If I hauled freight I would have wanted a fridge and tv but the bare big bunk worked well for me. Onthe otherhand Our hi rise IH had a fridge,tv and microwave ...I felt it was over cluttered running teams and lacked storage with all the stuff that belongs in a kitchen.

Pulling a trailer with 237 HP
Lmackattack replied to Mr Black's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
That's a good combo....if the rears are speced right it should be about a 68-75mph truck topped out. A lot of people don't like the Mack 9 speed but I liked them.. -
I agree....it's sad

Adding hydraulic lines for detach trailer
Lmackattack replied to Deere Mack's topic in Engine and Transmission
Exactly...plan the hose route with the tank on the truck to make sure you have clearance for the driveshaft. Then just drain and remove tank, weld a threaded bung for your return line. Then run the hose up to your deck plate. Also some people choose to run a 1" feed and 1" return ....others use a 1" and 3/4" ...it really depends on what everyone does in your area.. -

That was the first truck I ever drove solo in the seat. 15 years old running down I-55 with the driver sitting shot gun and showing me the ropes.... .. Think it's a RS700L had a 285 with a 6 speed...think it also had the hood scoop on it? -

I bought a new camera a few weeks back ,got the extra zoom feature so I can grab a good shot 1/4 mile away....at least that's what I tell the wife....he he... -
I still shake my head why Mack won't offer a deeper cab? Pete,kw,Volvo, everyone seems to have plenty of room yet the Mack cab still suffers....I sat inside a 2013 Pete with the rear wall panel extension. Besides the goofy look of that extension( it can be well hidden with dual stack set ups) you can fit so much stuff behind you and still get the seat back into a more relaxed position. No need to have it jammed up against the rear wall....just adjust it how ever you like and drive...what a concept! And for the record I don't sit on the floor boards and have my legs all stretched out. But when I want to stretch my legs I should have the room.....

Adding hydraulic lines for detach trailer
Lmackattack replied to Deere Mack's topic in Engine and Transmission
if his truck is already set up with a single line Kit I would drain the oil in your wet tank, remove tank and have a bung welded on it to accept a return line to it. the return line will run from your deck plate trailer connection back to the welded bung on the tank. I prefer this route because it lets the oil flow better and keeps it cool. I never liked running the return right back to the pump just because of heat reason if the pto was left in when loading a machine or something and forgetting to turn it off. just my .02 -

White Diamond Polish
Lmackattack replied to farmer52's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
I use it and think it does a good job. It does not have that hard to remove haze like many do. Just apply, rub in and wipe away, I use it with my electric buffer as well....
