Mark I made a job change last month and the home every night part makes me very happy...I'm still trucking but the local low boy stuff keeps it interesting. I know what you mean with all the crap out on the road these days. I have only been driving trucks for a little over 13 years and I see a big change in how things are....the only way to enjoy driving otr seams to be at night....

R Model Cab Height
Lmackattack replied to Mr Black's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I measured my stock RS cab bottom to upper frame rail flange and it was a difference of 1-2" compared to that of a superliner. If I recall the RS cab sits about 4-6" higher than an standard R model -
Dress like a thug, act like a thug, get treated like one....I dont think I ever got involved with a stranger that made me get to the point of fighting or acting like a big shot....if I ever felt in danger I left or made my way to public view.......I don't know all the details but dad always told me never throw the first punch...

R Model Cab Height
Lmackattack replied to Mr Black's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
My RS700 was factory solid mount cab. 2 years ago I bought a used superliner air ride cab set up and installed it my self. It bolted right up to the cab but I had to fab up some of the mounting brackets to the frame. It made a big difference limiting road shock and bucking. It has camelback rears so it's no caddy but the air cab made a nice improvement in the ride quality. -

For the rear cab mount You can use a superliner air ride cab set up. Use western or superliner front mounts. The front mounts were used with both solid and air ride cabs. Not sure if you currently have a solid mount cab? But If you raise the cab up with a superliner cab air ride. You will also need to remove the x brace support that went between the radiator and firewall. Use rods angled from top of radiator to secure it down to the frame. This will hold the radiator still and let the cab move with the air ride cab. This brings you to the next issue. The air ride cab will now need rollers on the fire wall where the hood rests. Rollers mount to the fire wall and locating guide plates to the hood. You may already have the guides on the hood.... Best advie is to look at a r model with an air cab and one without to see the difference.. -
The tube tipe split rims and tubeless rims will mount to the spokes the same way. Only difference is with tubeless rims you won't have to mess with the split rim or install tubes. Installing truck tires on tubless rims will be just like a car tire and rim . What ever you do I suggest deflating those tires on the split rims before you go smacking the rims trying to get them off. Who knows how old and rusty the rings are ....they were not very safe when new and age only makes them worse...

Another word of caution is when you are removing the dogs on the outer rim off the spokes..... leave all the nuts backed off on the studs Untill all nuts and dogs are louse. Seen them dogs go flying if they were under stress.... A shot to the dick, leg knee or ankle Wont feel too good. Ask me how I know.. -

I will never forget the time a buddy was building a sand base for his above ground pool. He went to home depot to rent a pickup dump truck. Then came by the yard for some sand. I loaded him up and he kept asking for a little more sand. I said your already on the heavy side but he wanted to do this in 2 trips. so we put a good humped load on and then tarped to try and hide it....truck was sitting on the overload springs with a bend in them looking like camelbacks. To leave the yard you have to turn onto a 55mph 4 lane hwy. he had the wheels full lock trying to get out into the slow lane and the truck would not move. He had to back up and make a wide turn to get her rolling. He said 40mph was about as fast as it wanted to go as it did not want to pull in over drive. He did comment that it rode like a caddy! -
Tony Champion Macks

That's one of the nicest b model /modern resto I have seen. It's still 100% classic with modern touches that would make it so much nicer to drive full time than if it was 100% stock. -

Im sure if they put those rims on with a big impact that's why they were stuck. They forced them too far back with the gun... -

Oh look.....an international with cat logo on the hood.....everyone get your old school black and yellow cat hats...
-
Very intresting....looks like it would get around pretty good in tight spots...never seen dual wheels for a steer acel.....but If it feels and drives anything like a rubber tire loader at speed ....no thanks!

Yep I look both ways when driveing over RR tracks...just to be sure that 11,000 tons of steel forgot to trip the crossing gate circuits. To me it's no different than crossing a street on foot...I hate the crossings that have buildings to block the view...always fear a train could be coming and I can't see it...
