  1. I really like the Rmodel cab..however to bring it to todays standards it needs more leg room and rear wall needs another 5" or so....quiet it down raise it up off the frame rails like the superliner cab sits and you would have a damm good truck again...
  2. I should be more specific....I was not talking about the tip turbine engines...There were also twin pipe air cleaners used to draw under hood air into the filter housing, air entered a pipe under the hood...then that air was filtered in the housing and then sucked thru the turbo and into the engine. Canadian mack trucks often had these.. A lot of dm Mack's that see a lot of dusty job sites often had the tall air cleaner with the inlet near the roof line..
  3. I will agree that trucks should hug/ stay right in a single turn lane to avoid cars sneaking past on the blind side... but when you have a double turn lane common sence tells me use the lane that I can swing wider in...also around here most of these double turn lanes have solid white lines thru the start of the turn between the lanes. Crossing a white line and you and a car collode who is at fault now? I also think the rules of the road were written when trailers were 40' or 45'. Pull a 3 or 4 axle lowboy with the wheels all they way at the rear of the triler or oversize and the rules change. Even that 53' feather lite I pulled for the race team was a bitch with the axels all they way to the rear. Needed 2 lanes to make a hard right where a standard 53' only needed a little of the left lane make a turn.. Today I was driving the standard 2 axle lowboy and I felt like a go cart around town...night and day swing radius needed vs the long 3 axle..
  4. Is the chn or vision cab based off the ch cab...was it mayflower who builds them still?
  5. Volvo may have bought and kept the Mack name alive but in doing so they have not truely Let mack and its team bring up the brand to the top where it was once and could be again...IMO they have just intagrated brands then put the leash on to hold back the full growth potential. If Volvo wanted Mack to grow there would be close examples of Mack trucks that matched and surpassed paccar products....I'm perfectly fine with integrated use of truck parts but to keep a brand down in a vocational sector that it's known to raise the bar clearly shows the intent of the parent company. Then you have the failed us market heavy haul sector. Build a truck to haul big loads but offer it only as a day cab?...How will this help compete with all the paccar otr heavy haul trucks already out there? The leash is on tight. Yes Volvo has done some good things but they have also limited the product offerings.
  6. What is different in the rf cowl. I assume the recess for the air cleaner pipe?
  7. 5 o clock wake up call?
  8. I have wondered as well it looks like it could be .if not some trimming of the hood may make it work...
  9. Square tanks were standard untill the late 70's with round as an option . Then around 76'-78' round tanks was standard not sure when square were discontinued?... From what i have seen Air cleaners of all years could be speced for standard short breather or option for a offroad tall breather. There was also an option for twin inlet / under hood air intake.
  10. Just yesterday I was following a truck hauling pipe on i294. We exit and came up to the double right turn lane. We both were stopped at the light in the LH side so we could swing wide. This right turn is kinda tight and my trailer will cross into the rh lane a little...cars fill in on our right side and Billy big rigger in a new pete comes up too..He's nosed In near my trailer axel hugging close to me. Light turns green and I just make my turn grab 2-3 gears nice and easy then watched him jam on the hooks when he almost ripped his bumper off on the rear of my trailer... Myself and the truck in front of me completed the turn then moved over to the right lane. Sometimes you just have to teach them a lesson and let them learn the hard way.
  11. Making a hard right, turnsignal on ,swing wide ,oh look he is going to pass me......nope....I just bring them with me.some reason It's a game these days...but every now and then I find a 4 wheeler that knows how trucks turn and wait their turn...
  12. Looking good. They pulled out the rd and superliners the last few weeks. Spoke with the driver and he said the international lonestar will be back out soon. Saw the granite yesterday at the same spot.
  13. Haven't driven the Pete yet. And to be honest I really don't look forward getting into the city with that thing. It looks cool but the little rd you can see out of easy. Plus PJ pulls a 4 axel trailer...just one more reason it sucks getting around in. Tomorrow Im driving #22 300 with a 6 speed...going back to my roots!
  14. I drive a 400 and we do lowboy, heavy haul...flat land IL butthe temp jumps up to around 200 on every pull. Fan will kick on and off like crazy when it's warm out.
  15. Man....We partied all night then straight to work....I'm done....go Hawks!
  16. Found this superliner at pattern elmhurst. 350 with an 18 speed on new way air ride.
  17. I have one of his R model cab and hoods. He has them 3D printed...bought one a few weeks ago.
  18. Looking good Larry. I want to build a 48 or 53 reefer next. I have this 48' flat bed and working on a 48' spread axel as well. After that I need an 24 or 26' end dump.
  19. When I first started otr I had good papr maps. Found every race track that way.. Now I use my iPad to view state routes or look up restrictions, bridge heights on back roads..... I like it as I can view the hard turns with street view and it gives me a good idea of where I'm heading into.. Don't know how I did it with just paper before..but knock on wood. Haven't hit or taken out anything yet.....the I pad really gives me a lot more info and real time views...I also use a few web sites to see where the restrictions are when heavy.
  20. The jakes on the 3406e cat 550 I drove at work was awesome. If it was raining out and was bob tail you could not safely use the jake above 1600rpm. it would try to lock the rears and the abs would detect it and kick it off.. Going over most interstate hills I could maintain direct or one gear lower, 35-45 mph @ 1900 rpm and it would hold the truck back @ 73k gross... This 400 Mack I drive now..I don't think the jake would hold me back at 10mph 2100!
  21. The RS started as a king hauler with the sleeper removed. Then I used plastic sheets and cut out the hood, fenders and parts for the cab. It will bolt up to to the stock cab floor this way... I will have to make fuel tanks and battery boxes to complete the frame. 84 superdog is right Guys try to sell completed trucks with lights ,sound extra addons etc...for over $1,000+ The stock kits alone are $375 on a good day. Then you need a radio and batteries, charger etc...I have found its cheaper to buy them used and modify them to your liking. Both my trucks have upgraded driveshafts, locking diffs, aftermarket tires, rims led lights and end point adjustments for the 3 speed transmission. It's a fun hobby if you can make a lot of your upgrades and save on cost. Here are some of the upgrades
  22. Paul,They are 1/14 scale.. My red and white cruiseliner is About 4'6" long with a scale 216" wb tractor and 48' trailer.
  23. My experience with Dayton's is that you will always scratch the rim when installing the locking dogs and tighten down with the nuts... There is no way to prevent it as they make solid. contact. I would prep paint install then touch them up...also before you paint the rims look to see if there are tabs welded to each side of the air valve stem... You will thank yourself later if the wheel slips on the new paint...
  24. Been building some r/c trucks last few months. I Bought some used tamiya 1/14 scale cab overs and converted one into a cruiseliner and the other I just added some aftermarket add ons. Been also making a RS700L day cab. I built this 48' flatbed a few weeks ago out of aluminum stock and tamiya axles.
  25. I don't see the problem here......he clearly used his indicators showing his intent to run you off the road.... He he he....
