  1. If you keep the 5 speed you are limited to Maxidynes...highest HP is 300. and it will need a front mount cooler If you change the engine to say a E7 350 or 400 you will need a trans with 8 or more speeds.( 8LL, 10,12,13,18 speed) and a front mount cooler
  2. I have a a 65 B75 sitting on a R model frame. Who ever built it used the R steering column. Its looks like it was a PITA to install it as there is little room to work under the dash but it is much nicer than the stock B model wheel. the
  3. How will you be hooking up the pump. Is there room on the back side of the compressor? I know its tight back there in a B model
  4. I stopped visiting the Message board when a few moderators continued to edit or delete peoples posts to keep the message board inline with their agenda or at to remove fear of HQ of cutting them off. They put constant talk that HQ did not want people selling stuff online and that it would cause a drop in income. In my opinion they were so behind the times with things related to communication within the old truck community...But I will stop ranting. I quit for a reason and besides I enjoy talking with the old truck junkies on here and in the many facebook groups.
  5. Exactly. The ATHS was in such a hurry to get this truck away from the local club but now are looking to sell it off rather soon. This was nothing more than a power play. It should have stayed with the local club and if they disbanded then the truck should have been sold to a museum or kept at any other local Club that had interest in maintaining it. I really dont understand how HQ even got their greedy hands on it in the first place. What bothers me is that this historic Truck gifted to the men and women of its local ATHS club was stolen and bullshitted by its own representatives at HQ. I remember when I signed up for the ATHS bak in 2005-06. that same day I was hearing about the crap going on in HQ and just a few years later I dropped membership due to the crap that was going on with the message board. I have seen many very good people come and go because of all the issues with HQ. All clubs have their issues but The ATHS stuff was rather on the sad side of things
  6. Good eye John , that is odd ...It must be that this was a early design the grill mesh looks the same but if does not have the flat planes around it. it also sports the early RS/RL 700 Hood with no provision for the lower grill extending down into the bumper.
  7. I remember when this all went down... I gave up my membership when they were playing these games.
  8. Not sure of the magic pink stuff they used in the stack but thought it was pretty cool.. As for the gender surprise......I think its become normal now to know what you are having. My sister inlaw just a few weeks ago did the old school way were they found out when her child was born. My wife and I were going to let it be a surprise but We were going crazy wondering.
  9. For those not on bookface I thought some might get a kick out of this The caption reads " My brother and his wife revealing the sex of there baby." posted by Dustin Lauger
  10. Very sorry to hear of the golf cart accident.. 4 years ago I was in Sebring Flordia for the 12Hr race. the day of the race a group of 5 adults were riding on a golf cart made to seat 4 people. the 5th person, A middle aged man was sitting on the dash facing rearward. The driver of the golf cart made a sudden stop to avoid a race car coming into the man paddock area. 5mph tops was what the cart was going but the man lost grip and fell back wards off the cart. He hit his head on the concrete with a thump that could be heard 20 ft away where our trailer was parked. Within seconds he had blood coming from both ears and was un responsive. Local EMS that was track side for the race had made it to him within 2 mins but even with the quick response of EMS He died on his way to the hospital . I will never forget seeing how fast ones life was taken from them while doing something so innocent. last I herd no alcohol was involved he was just riding on a cart enjoying race day...
  11. lets hope it stands out and is not named after a Golf ball...
  12. thats true....but like I said... 30 or so white volvos and 1 or 2 macks on the lot.. We are seeing once very popular Mack branches continue to sell out to no name companies. In return they retain status of a Mack dealer yet there is no presence of Mack to be found. They show case Volvos only. Even the building screams Volvo yet they are a so-called Mack dealer.
  13. this was at the Mt Prospect/Desplanes IL M&K dealer... I was the only "American" in the place...
  14. I went in to a local mack dealer today. the lot was filled with brand new Volvo OTR trucks only saw one granite in the lot. polka music playing in the background I kid you not... I went inside and ordered parts. While waiting, I grabbed the 2 brochures showcasing Construction and Highway. Flipping thru them both, I noticed that the only trucks mack listed for construction are the Granite, Terra Pro and Titan.....We all know the Titan is no more and the Terra Pro is just a garbage truck. So that leaves the once leading brand for on/off road trucks with 1 model for construction. Flipping thru the Highway brochure, it shows 1 model with a option for daycab, sleeper and the Rawhide trim package....That's it.. So to sum it up mack has a offerings of 1 highway truck 1 off road truck 1 garbage truck Sad offerings these days.
  15. one thing I will still say about Mack is that the build quality is still better than Paccar. Mack pays closer attention to fitment and serviceability. This 378 pete I drive now is a nice truck but try to remove anything off the cab and you have snapped bolts, stripped heads, or rivets that need to be removed. On the inside the dash is flimsy cracked plastic with a HVAC unit that lets in buckets of rain water . I dont know how well the latest model of mack(volvo) are but this 2001 pete I drive now is way behind the same year macks I have wrenched on. .
  16. I think the HP /TQ figures are the same between a Mechanical and Electronic 300 but how each version of the engine delivered the power feels different. A mechanical could not control the fuel delivery as well as a Electronic. so when we mashed the pedal on a mechanical the engine came to life and you can feel the torque. When we do it with a electronic the Computer tells the engine how much fuel to give at "X" RPM and it eases it into the powerband... I like how the mechanical felt better for this reason,
  17. pull your head out of the sand...
  18. Was the "cool power" a slogan for the air to air charge cooling or did it also refer to the air/water charge cooling? I have seen most tip turbine refereed to 285HP but there were versions of the charge cooler that had the water cooling added to it. My truck has a 285 air only but I have a spare charge air box that has the water set up. I was thinking of installing it but I dont think it would gain me more HP without other changes to the engine?
  19. I recall some R models intorduced in gold for promotion but I thought that was the 300 maxidyne in the late 70s early 80s? the pics of them were posted on here before
  20. I think that was the owners name. I have never met him But Al said the guys name was Rusty. there was also a 3rd truck that was often seen doing the same rounds. I think it was darker colored White/GMC?
  21. I have told you this before.... I remember that truck when it was fairly new. You were running past my house in Buffalo Grove many of times along with the Orange, yellow and black RS700L.
  22. If all of your bearings have these issues after just a few hours run time I would say you are looking at a oil pump or oil flow issue. where is the oil gauge plumbed into? if its close to the pump it will tell you it has good pressure but it cant tell you if other components are seeing that pressure further into the oil system. If the pump is giving you good pressure than it must be sending the oil to a major internal leak. fluid flows to the path of least resistance. if you have a major leak inside the engine the pump will push 90% of the oil to that exit path and other components will starve. for example if this engine calls for piston oil coolers but they were not installed, major oil flow will come thru this passage unrestricted where other oil passages will see a trickle of flow with little to no pressure behind it. oil flow thru a crank needs solid pressure as it needs to feed other bearings. If your rods and mains have failed but the cam bearings are ok than start looking for a blockage or internal leak in the block. most engines running at idle can safely run very low pressure so long that all components are getting pressure. some may recall the old Detroits that would only have about 5-7 psi at hot idle and this was factory spec. even at this low PSI it was safe if all bearings were seeing it. when you get this engine rebuilt again I would suggest priming it with oil with the pan off to see where oil flow is escaping to.. you may need to block off the oil coolers (if equipped) but it will hopeflully show whats getting oil and what is not. one last thing. I have seen a few failed engines where the heavy use of gasket sealer during a rebuild (oil pan gasket) caused blockage in the pump and thru the block. the pump chews up the sealant and pushes it into the oil passages. just another variable to think about
  23. put a block of wood under it and it will be fine. wider the board the better but it will support the weight.
  24. With that example, yes it is a possibility. Again it all depends on what route you are on. Another example that up until a few years ago was that some states still had a max gross weight of 73,280 lbs and others were 80,000 lbs. this caused all types of issues as you could be on the interstate at 80,000 lbs and be legal. jump off that interstate and you were over the legal limit. Some states you can gross more than 80,000 if you have the correct amount of axles. Way too many examples to go on with but as you can see states can make up their on weight and length laws. its up to the company and drivers to know all these laws.
  25. Many Truck owners just like the look of extra frame rail between truck and trailer. its not practical by any means but it is a trend. they also tend to ride better when the rear wheels are further away from the cab. Or a truck was set up with a long WB to haul special loads that would over hang the nose of the trailer. Many state have different laws regarding overall length and weight distribution. 5th wheel location can be moved to help accommodate these laws. its vary rare that you will find a 5th wheel slid all the way back. In recent years some states have started to copy other state laws and make things a little more consistent. most trailers I have pulled we just kept the 5th wheel about 6" ahead of center of the tandems. this was a safe bet to keep the front axel weight at or below the common 12,000 lbs weight limit. Most Van trailers also have tandems that can slide for and aft. again some states have different laws regarding how far back the trailer tandems can be based on the weight of the truck. this is why you might see some van trailers with the tandems at different locations. its also why many flat bed trailers have spread tandems. No real simple way to try to explan it all as each state just about has a different law regarding weight or length. East coast states had more length and weight restrictions. It was common to find short WB trucks out east and long WB trucks out west. You can also see the trend with sleepers back in the day. East coast were small and west coast they were larger.
