  1. Back in the 50's a friend of mines father was an engineer for Southern Railway. They had a retired steam engine that was donated to the Smithsonian. It was stored in Alexandria, VA. It had to be moved to a shop for restoration. We got to ride in the engine and also got to shovel coal from the tender. That is definitely hard and hot work. As far as I know the train is still at the museum. Given the weight and size you don't just rotate that display.
  2. They are really cool. I got a chance to sit in the driver's seat in one a number of years ago too. I think there is one that has been for sale that has been converted to a car hauler.
  3. As Sam Walton used to say, "a fast quarter is better than a slow dollar".
  4. Looks like no shortage of projects available.
  5. That is beyond cool. Lots of possibilities (and of course money).
  6. I think I caught a whiff of that up here in Northern VA. It sure does look good.
  7. Good job. Hope it got a good home.
  8. Looks like the picture didn't make it. Said something about requires formatting. Here's a link to the picture. https://www.cardcow.com/32911/hotel-washington-berkeley-springs-west-virginia/ My wife is from there and I remember driving up after the hotel fire and seeing it still smoldering.
  9. Here's a picture of the Washington Hotel in BS before it burned. The courthouse just across the street burned a few years ago. That has been rebuilt.
  10. I was at the Wash, DC auto show this past week and saw the F 350 in XLT, King Ranch & Platinum. They are all sweet but lots of money. The Platinum is so nice you wouldn't want to use it for work.
  11. I haven't seen any security warnings but for the past couple of days I get "want to be notified" window each time I click on a topic. I have indicated I did not want it but it still pops up.

That is a nice looking truck with lot's of potential and a good story to go along with it. I'll defer to others on the value. If that is your grandad's truck that would mean a lot to you for sure. Good Luck.
  13. That's a really cool truck. I know you hate to see it go. Good luck finding a new home.
  14. I live about 4 miles from Coles VFD and remember seeing this truck there years ago. If I remember the chief or former chief owned it after it was retired. Haven't seen it around for a long time.
  15. Is that the same one that has been at Winchester too? It's a beauty.
  16. Holy S---! That has to be a super pucker moment.
  17. Cool old pictures. I looked through all of them on the newspaper website and there seems to be a lot of Corvairs.
  18. I agree, that is a really nice "DeVille" wagon. Anybody know if it was sold or where it went?
