  1. I have a hardly-used copy but my Wife shoved it up it's buried under a bunch of crap.
  2. That's the type of KW this driver has. I sat in it and felt like I was in my living room compared to the Pinnacle. What does the "R" stand for? It's no doubt a cost issue. I guess they figure that many drivers don't run cb's, so why put the expense into doing it right.
  3. I hear ya. I do have everything tucked in behind the trim so it looks good inside but the fairings behind the cab made the exterior routing difficult. I also have it routed through the door which is enough to make the purists cringe, but we do the best we can with the equipment and company policies we have to work with. There's an FXF driver I run into on the PA turnpike sometimes and he says they are only allowed to use the factory setup.
  4. I missed this thread somehow. Glad you had a good trip and looking forward to your pictures. BTW, if your pics are upside down when posted as sometimes happen son here, that's okay. In fact, it's expected.
  5. I've always had good results when mounting directly to the grab handle on trucks I've driven prior to this one. I think of it as a blessing in disguise because I'm very pleased with this setup and only came up with the idea out of necessity.
  6. Ours didn't come with one. I've been meaning to try one there but haven't got around to it. I had a lot of headaches when trying to find a good ground for my antenna mount and was going to try a second antenna but came up with a different solution. I was skeptical about the passenger side antenna idea because I figured if it needed one there it should have come that way from the factory, but I could be mistaken. I couldn't even get a ground off the grab handle over the rear window, but most of my coworkers have their mounts there with no swr issues. I'm told that it's not unusual for identical trucks to have different issues. Through trial and error, I came up with a mount and location that I am very pleased with. That's a 3" piece of galvanized steel I found on Amazon for around $5. It came with 2 pre-drilled 1/2" holes that were perfect for the stud and bolt. I replaced the factory bolt with a slightly longer one to make up for the thickness of the steel. If you are shopping for a fiberglass antenna I recommend a Francis of at least 4' in length. They can be found at most truck stop chains for $18-25.
  7. Nice! We have the same DPF setup. Unfortunately, the straight stack is hidden behind the fairing.
  8. It should be. Our Pinnacles use the driver's mirror and a few actually use it, but many of them are faulty. I even tried a few different antennas with no luck. I don't know where the issue is but the easiest solution would be to mount your own bracket on the grab handle over the rear window and use your own coax and antenna. It's a pain but once set up your good for a while. Either way, avoid keying up beyond checking the SWR until the problem is resolved.
  9. Welcome, Oh you ate one too (just kidding). Any more pics of your truck?
  10. I've had one for about 2 years. Ran it in the truck for a year and now it's in the four wheeler. I'm not huge fan of the faceplate but love the additional features it has over traditional 29, such as the scan and built-in diagnostics. The choice of 4 colors for the screen is nice also. The blue matches well with the Pinnacle switches. Performance wise it's as good as any of the newer Cobra 29's and can easily be modified if you choose. I would avoid a peak and tune unless you know the shop is not going to cut the modulation limiter. IMO you're better off running it straight out of the box without hacking it up. I sent mine to a shop in Carlisle PA and he replaced some factory parts with better quality and it is very loud and clear, but that was just a personal preference. If possible, your focus should be on running your own coax and antenna for best performance. We have several Pinnacles where I work and on many, mine included, the factory setup is faulty and can burn up tour radio in short order. My only concerns are how the digital faceplate will hold up over the long term and the channel knob feels a bit cheap but overall I'd say you made a wise choice. it's a very good radio for the money.
  11. Thats' kinda personal, don'tchathink? Oh... you meant in the picture.
  12. That was fun, thanks for sharing. My bucket list includes a visit to an automotive assembly line. Car, truck, bus-it doesn't matter. Neither does the brand. The freewheeling mode makes sense but I'm skeptical, and always will be, of any new feature where an electronic malfunction can result in a dangerous situation for the driver. I don't do the Georgia Overdrive thing.
  13. THAT is art. A blank piece of canvas hanging on the wall of a museum, for example, is NOT ART!
  14. Ingenuity at it's best. It's amazing what could be accomplished back then with with limited technology and materials to work with.
  15. Not that there aren't any sharp looking vehicles these days, but look at the lines on the body. A designer that could start with a blank piece of paper and end up with this is a true artist. Same goes for most vehicles from that era.
  16. This info must've been leaked. I can't believe any politician would admit to investing $1 million of public money in an electric garbage truck. Then again, those of us that are sensible are probably outnumbered 3 to 1 by the treehuggers that are touching themselves while reading this.
  17. Looks like another little helper running across the road at :22.
  18. Beautiful scenery out west, but that's a shame about the 'vette.
  19. It's a special edition. That might explain the green firewall. It appears to have my grandmother's maiden name on the door, so it can't be all bad.
  20. It almost over but I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and have a safe, enjoyable weekend.
  21. I work with drivers that would pretend they didn't see that and leave it for the next guy. The more ambitious ones would hose the blood off and leave it for the next guy.
  22. I remember riding with my Dad when I was a kid in a then 10 year old B model. Another driver had commented that the truck was old and my Dad replied that hew would prefer an R model but "you can't kill these things". I don't think he had any idea at the time just how true a statement that was! Best of luck. It'll be a great looking truck regardless of what you decide to do with it.
  23. I-79 in WV is the only place I've ever seen deer grazing right along the shoulder with absolutely no reaction to a truck passing by at 65 mph just a few feet away. I've seen literally a hundred or more between Morgantown and Charleston this time of year.
  24. Sentimental value alone is reason enough to not let them go, but if your 148 is an older (pre-China) version then that's a helluva good sideband set from what I've heard. The Chinese models used parts that are inferior to what was used in older versions. Same goes for Unidens. I sent my 29LX to a shop in Carlisle, PA and he replaced some parts (no clipping). It made a very noticeable difference in both transmit and receive distance. There are 2 radios I want to add to the stable: A Lafayette 525 or 625 and a Johnson Messenger 123 like you have. The Johnsons have a hell of a rep for a basic radio and they're on Ebay all the time. I want the Lafayette because I grew up on LI and spent countless hours at their main store/warehouse in Syosset while my dad bs'ed with the cb tech. Good times.
  25. Nailed 5 in 3 hits in a big truck between 9/2012 and 10/2013. Unfortunately there's no limit on how many will choose to commit venicide at your expense.
