So, How About This Weather?

A snow plow finally went by about 3 o'clock yesterday, as seen in this screenshot from a surveillance camera-

I had only seen one pickup truck go by since it snowed. 

I haven't been out to investigate today but the plow pushed a wall of snow up in the driveway 

so I might go out and shovel a little bit in case we need to get out. Not even supposed to get above freezing for a week.

Same here!!! Was 12 this morning and are supposed to have a high of maybe 40. Supposed to stay like this all week with back to 10 Sunday AM.

We had -5* again last night with a little more snow for a total of 17"-18". It's up to 11* and the sun is out for awhile till a flurry goes thru. l'm waiting on that before l go and clean up with my favorite old Bolens "Miss Junkie". they are calling for 6+ inches of snow this weekend.  however they called for 15+ inches here and we got just under 2..  25 degrees here now.

We got a solid 12" by Sunday.  I plowed Sat afternoon to get the first 6" cleared out of the way.  Then did it again Sunday.  I also did three neighbors drives, cause I'm a good guy.

I enjoy playing on the ol Cub cadet.  Now it can all melt and be 72*.  😉

They were calling for an absolute ice-maggedon here, just for it to sleet most of the time. Do not get me wrong, I'm thankful for that, but man, it got everyone here panic buying everything! I know a lot of other places got hit hard, so I'm thankful we got off easy this time. It is really cold though!

REPORT FROM ICE STATION ZEBRA

Preparations are complete. Provisions have been secured and stored. Petrol tanks for the camp tractor and other devices have been filled with 89 octane ethanol free gasoline. The camp tractor has been run, tuned and stored in the maintenance shed and is ready. All personnel have been outfitted with seal skin cold weather gear. The storm is forecast to begin at approximately 0900Z-1000Z this date.

I made an early run to the store before the storm hit to get provisions too. I got a 12 pack and a bag of bird seed.

I got the wall moved into the ditch across the road today. I had to break it up into big chunks with a round point shovel, then used my grain shovel/ snow shovel to move it. 

I only worked about a half hour at a time, then I took a break. I think we could get out now if we had to.

Things are just about normal here temperature right where it belongs 20s at night ..the morning late 40s in the afternoon it only snowed  here once so far I am not complaining

guys finally showed up about 1 hour ago to clear me driveway out. had to pull the F150 out because the drift in front/under it was too big to drive through.

Nice weather Paul.We are rained out of it here.According to the weather people we have had 6 times the average rainfall for January...They say the polar air mass affecting the US has blocked a deep low pressure system centered just west of Ireland and spead up the jet stream collecting a massive amount of moist air and dumped it on us and the UK along with strong gale force winds.The country is flooded with main roads impassable and rail services suspended.Ferry services are also suspended Even large cargo ships are staying in port.Air traffic is operating but with delays.....Roll on the summer!!!

not sure about where you are, but here in Jersey that is a $1,00 fine for cars, and $1000 for commercial vehicles..
and the cops are very strict on enforcing it.

That's an on the spot ticket here in NH! And the snow will be cleaned off before you move. Tractor trailers with snow on the roof of the trailer that get stopped. The police will call a road side repair service to come out and shovel it off for you. And you know the driver/company will be charged for the road call.

We had an overhead V-plow to do the trailer roofs in our yard. Problem was you had to shovel the snow that landed on the ground to the side before the next truck drove through.    .....Hippy

We had snow scraper machines for boxes in some of our high snow areas… and yes snow on roofs is a huge issue

We have one in our yard. Myself and another supervisor will go out periodically & check on it then grab the shops plow truck and clear it.

Yesterday during the busy evening rush of P&D drivers coming through one of them called me & said "I'm stuck across the street".  He was going to a customer to do a trailer switch that is less than a mile away that we always refer to as "going across the street" so I asked him "going to or coming from" and he replied "I was going to take my 15 minute break". That's when I realized that he, with an empty 48', had pulled out of our yard and across our street to the recently build but unoccupied building that has a nice lot that they all like to take their breaks in which has not been plowed at all! I asked him, what made you think that was a good idea? Um, there were tracks in the snow (4X4 tracks)....  I told him to log his break and as soon as I could, as I'm the only supervisor working from 17:00 until 20:30, I would get over there and pull him out.  I just ran my strap through his ICC bumper and hooked my J-hook into the last notch of the slider rail and gently pulled him out with my Chevy/Duramax.  A lot of guys were already laughing at him but not as hard as the previous day when our P&D dispatcher left and immediately went nose first into the ditch about 90' after leaving our exit drive in his 4X2 Dodge pickup.
