can someone tell me if the gold bulldogs color was some kind of plating or were they painted gold thanks in advance

The bulldog was done both ways, Gold Plated and Painted. The best bet is a perfect one is on an ashtray. Both big and small bulldogs are on the trays. If the finish is shinny it is Gold plated.  Brushed or matt finish, Painted

Excellent thanks for that. I actually had an ashtray with a big size bulldog on it.I gave it to a good friend of mine long story, but he deserved it gave it up. I really liked it and now I wish I had it back. my old friend has since passed. I go over there and visit his wife occasionally, but I haven’t got the nerve to ask for it back. I’m kind of waiting to see if she offers it one of these days.

Back when I was a kid, the owners of the Mack dealership were from in town here. The one relation (a beautician) used to set me up with all sorts of cool stuff I was too young to know enough to save. Sweat shirts, hats, all sorts of things with the bulldog on them. Ash trays. tie tacks. key rings, cups of all sorts. I even had a Mack 3 ring binder from the Signal era. Never gave it a thought 50 years later how much I wished I kept some of those things.

A guy I worked with years ago had a set of Salt and Pepper shakers ( Bulldogs) with Mack on their collar, he showed them to me, said his Uncle bought some Mack cement mixers years ago and the dealership gave them to his Aunt. I’ve never seen any since.

Yes, I’d like to have that receiver cover, but I have nothing to put it on. I did come across one time desk phone same style Brocky was  talking about I use it for a while. I don’t know whatever happened to it now I don’t even have a landline anymore. Like most of us…  hated to give up my landline since I hadda home phone since I was born 1956

When I met Karen 20 yrs ago, they still used their rotary phone in the dining room as their main phone.  I bought her a cordless phone so she could go sit on the couch and be comfortable talking on the phone instead of standing in the corner!  😆

You all are "City Boys"!!! Until the early 60's we had a single crank phone in the house. A big black box on the wall that had an ear/mouth piece like you dial phone. 12-15 party line and you heard every bodies ring!! Our neighbor still had the taller rectangle  box with the mouth piece on the front and the ear piece on a cord..

Early 60s? I was born in 63! I lived in farm country, northern Ohio in the 70s; we had a 4 person party line. One lady would give us a certain amount of time on a call, if she thought you should be done she'd pick up the receiver and ring a cowbell in the mouthpiece.
