Thanks  to both of you for the comments.  Wife and I have our house up for sale and cannot include the Mack in the next chapter of our lives.  This is one of those choices that you do what you don't want to do in order to achieve what you have to do.

got to see the b Mack in person. This truck is well worth the money! If you were to put the new fenders on which are included in the sale, this truck would be super !!!!!!!!!! I already have a B61 in the barn other wise she would have be coming to Florida me !!!

I am the one who built this truck 25 years ago. It is everything Steve says it is and then some!

It started as a cab and chassis, I put the 711 and the quadraplex in it, a year later did an in frame rebuild including the heads. The box that is on it now I put on in 2005. The power steering box I replaced around 2009. I don't think Steve mentioned that he had a clutch put in it right after he bought it from me 6 years ago.

All the above being said, That is a great truck, mechanically sound,Well worth the money and I wish I could have it back.  (Steve offered it to me but I just can't justify it.)

If it was a gas truck then it has a deep rear ratio, any idea what the rear ratio is?    terry:MackLogo:

I changed the center section about the same time I changed the steering box. they both came from a newer diesel Mack probably an R model that a friend of mine scrapped. I don't remember the ratio but it was not as deep as the original.

Joe,

Thanks for the kind words, although you could have left out the part about being  "real old"  😄

Rick,

Welcome to the forum.  I've always thought you did a great job putting this truck together.  I wanted something that was basically turn-key and once the clutch was installed that is exactly what it has been for 6 years.  You should be very proud of your work.  I get compliments on the truck by everyone who sees it.  Thanks for your input on this thread.

Terry,

Don't know the ratio.  The speedometer was never recalibrated from the original drivetrain but I estimate it runs close to 55 mph in high gear.

Hello,

New to the forum... actually, inspired to register because of this sale. I have been bouncing emails back and forth with Steve about potentially buying. By the way, thank you very much, Steve, for such thorough and thoughtful responses to my many questions!

I'm pretty green when it comes to working on vehicles and was hoping to ask for some wisdom from the forums about how involved/expensive a tie rod replacement on this B-42 would be? In general are parts difficult to come by? I have family members who are real gear heads and wrenchers so could enlist their help as long as the parts are available.

Thanks for any input!

Justin

Justin,  I have tried to answer your questions honestly and to the best of my ability.   I am sure that someone will know about the cost and availability of tie rod ends for the B-42.   There are many knowledgeable folks on this site who are more than willing to help you if they see your post.

Enjoy the truck,  Garden Wolf.  Thanks to everyone that helped answer all the questions. Drrkgreen, I'm sure Garden Wolf has your phone number programmed on speed dial.  Special thanks to you for your help.

Thanks! I’m really excited about the new addition to the family. 😁

I will be on here (and perhaps the phone with Drrkgreen!) a lot as I learn how to drive a twin stick and work on an old Mack. Thanks to everyone for being such a welcoming community!

I forgot to post earlier about this beautiful B. It is a really great restoration. My one question is why is the tach not in the dash panel and clamped alongside the steering column? I'm just curious.

Back in the day you didn't tend to care so much about RPMs just how fast you were going, thus many of these trucks were built without them. So in the more modern age an easy solution was just to stick it on to the steering column or dash board, rather and cut a big hole in the dash for it to sit in.

Who needs a back yard when you could have a :mack1: Yard?!
