The unusual Corbett's are part of what make the already-unusual Corbett truck stand out even more. Thanks for the great info concerning Oren chassis. I wonder if Oren bought the remaining machinery, dies and tooling as well. Wouldn't that be something to find in a barn!

I went to the auction site last night. Either my memory is faulty, imagine that, or they cleaned out part of the yard over the last couple of years. Not nearly as many Scouts as I remembered.

One of the Orens up for auction is one of the "grey ghosts" pumpers from Roanoke, VA. They acquired the nick name from being painted grey instead of red.

Tom Herman's book on Orens provides the history of Oren and Corbitts collaboration.

Here is a picture of Roanoke's squad truck which was delivered in the same order and subsequently re-painted red. Currently owned by Karl Ehlshlager and kept in Roanoke's old Station Number One.

I think that Corbitt was started by associate transport to fill there needs for trucks, then sold trucks to the public. Don't quote me exactly on that of course, but there was a story about it in the wheels of time quite some time ago.

To expand on what Joe D said. AT built the Browns, but I believe that one of the Brown engineers came from Corbitt and a few of the the first Browns may have been rebuilt rebuilt Corbitts, thus the close look alike.

Here is a Brown and a Corbitt side by side

The metal work on the cab and body looks flawless. That actually looks like a vehicle someone card about as they were designing and building it. Specialty and custom bodies on earlier trucks always brings to mind "what if.......?"
